New gaming range from AOC, 1440p 27" 144hz and 1ms TN panel, but a decent one, read the reviews! 3 year warranty.

Freesync compatible for those with AMD GPU and it looks the part. Lowest price ever on Amazon and appear to be pricematching OCUK, minus the £12 postage!

Says 1-2 months but we all know with Amazon it will likely be much sooner.

The response thing is total BS.

A good IPS panel has a 4ms refresh. The FUD spreaders point it this is four time the TN panels, but it's utterly irrelevant.

If you can refresh a screen in 4ms, you can refresh it 250 times every second. That's about double the frame rate you're going to get in game.

I went from a TN panel to a modern IPS panel and the refresh rate change is completely imperceptible. People just use it as an excuse for their cheaper panel.

Fury runs 1440p fine.

But the 480 will, depending on the title and level of detail, so not strictly true.

As for Gsync, I agree and this was the sole factor I stayed on the AMD bus. It annoys me as there's absolutely no reason NVidia couldn't also be compatible with Freesync other than for the fact they have disabled it in the driver... Dumb.

For those voting cold, please let me know of a 1440p 144hz 27" 1ms freesync monitor that's cheaper please.

I've bought one of these and so am genuinely interested in saving money if there's something equivalent for less!

Q4 2017/2018 I'll probably opt for a 4k once decent gaming refresh rates and GPU's capable of running it are more widely available.

Will still get a decent price second hand on this part of thing. Something like 85% of gamers are still 1080p.

Nice, just find it odd that AMD's latest generation of gpu's don't have the power for this resolution at high fps without going crossfire. I wish you could get a similar G-Sync for this price

Yeah the Fury can but its not the latest generation, where is that 490 or 490X?

Well it's the latest generation in so much as there still isn't a replacement for that product line of HBM cards.

But I know what you're getting at.

I've got an R9 380 G1 480 looks like an nice buy but won't be a big upgrade. Next year hopefully new mainboard and cpu AM4
But yeah I've got 2 27" 1080p monitors which are not the best so 144p is a must next year.

I know what you mean, I'm so annoyed that AMD is taking so long to release the 490. Latest rumours suggest the first vega cards coming out in 2017 will be for servers and consumer graphics cards July 2017 or later. It's almost as if they want us to buy a gtx 1070 or 1080. Really wish they released them sooner.

To be fair I would pay the extra tenner and get this in all its ips glory.

That monitor suffers very badly with bleed and is washed out, at least that's the impression I get from forums/reviews. Good shout otherwise though.

Acer only offer a 2 year warranty also, this has a 3 year warranty - which might be worth something.
Kezman14
2 Oct 16 #16
Great find op. It's a nightmare finding these 27" 1440p 144hz 1ms monitors at a decent price... The 1-2 month delivery is a bummer though. Might be worth the extra 30£ for early delivery lol.
FYI though, I have always been a fan of BenQ and the XL2730Z is at roughly the same price (£411 and slowly going up in price again).
The_Hoff to Kezman14
2 Oct 16 #18
Yeah the BenQ range have good panels also, but I just can't get over the look of them... great alternative though.

FYI I received an email from Amazon telling me my delivery should be 17th October or there abouts for the AOC, but I also wouldn't be surprised if it shipped next week.

Cheapo G-Sync used monitor from Warehouse here if anybody was in the market:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B00LX2J17W/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used&m=A2OAJ7377F756P

Fingers crossed for you mate... I have a gtx 1080 so ideally looking for g-sync. Think I'm going to opt for a 24" screen... Can get one roughly the same price as the 27" but with gsync. The problem is then whether to go ips panel and a take a hit on the response... I'll probably stick with TN though.
Kezman14
2 Oct 16 #20
And I really do like the Acer predator.. Will have to look a bit further into the amazon warranty when I get time though. Second hand monitors could be a nightmare
The_Hoff
2 Oct 16 1 #21
Warranty with warehouse is very simple.

If it goes wrong within 12 months, you send it back to Amazon and they will refund you - they don't offer replacements. You can also return it easily within 30 days if you see a defect or line of pixels, so in many ways it's simpler than dealing with a non-Amazon company where they'll quote 2/3 dead pixels isn't a defect etc.

I've bought lots of stuff from Warehouse and have never had an issue returning anything for a no quibble refund.

Also, depending on the serial itself, you may find the monitor wasn't registered by the prior owner and may still be covered by the manufacturers warranty in month 12-24.
Spud211
3 Oct 16 #22
Good deal for this monitor  personally I would save up for a good IPS screen - the colours are hugely improved and response rates are up there with tn now if you get a good screen. Depends how long you want to wait really and also how much you spend. IMO the best in the category is the acer predator IPS range (around £30-40 more than this deal currently in freesync guise, or £200 more with gsync!!) but more are being released this year so there will be more choice.

Still, a good deal for this screen regardless

Edit: link to the acer referenced above. https://www.overclockers.co.uk/acer-predator-xf270hu-27-2560x1440-ips-freesync-144hz-gaming-widescreen-led-monitor-black-red-mo-095-ac.html

Nice find OP.

Sadly all of the "reviews" for this monitor are trash. Almost no real testing done on it, but just opinionated garbage.

I'll wait for TFTCentral / Anandtech or someone to get a decent review out there first. I'm a little apprehensive about AOC as I've had a couple of their screens fail. The ultrawide I had from them was very poor - incredibly high input lag, bad build quality and the panel had the ISO limit for dead pixels. It was the only screen I've ever returned for being poor quality and not faulty.

If anyone finds a decent review, please do post it up :innocent:
ro53ben
3 Oct 16 #29
I've got the G-Sync equivalent of that panel and it's pretty flawless. Seen other owners with light bleed problems, but never affected me at all - certainly no wash out, perhaps that's an Freesync thing?

I'd take the IPS panel every day of the week.
Kezman14
3 Oct 16 #30
£50 more... And completely out of stock everywhere. Amazon insist it's not released yet. Acer insist it's been available for months... But absolutely nobody has stock.
Kezman14
3 Oct 16 #31
IPS panels, at best, quadruple the response time... If you are using the screen for mostly gaming, then a TN panel is still the best option.
The_Hoff
3 Oct 16 #32
Really depends on use case, if you're editing or using primarily for media, I completely agree.

If it's FPS gaming that primary use (me), I favour the response of a decent TN. I also agree that bad TN screens are awful, but there's a huge difference across the market.
The_Hoff
3 Oct 16 #33
It's G-Sync which is a different proposition and no good for me personally. Good for Nvidia users no doubt.

I feel the same since I changed to IPS they are so much brighter and vibrant, I could never go back to a TN panel. Besides this lower ms malarkey and taking into account possible server lag (what difference would lower ms make?), not forgetting we all blink also another factor that would have some effect surely (Freesync eyelids could be the future?).
Looking4Glitches
3 Oct 16 #36
I think it's disgusting the price of monitors compared to TV's... Yes they have higher refresh rates etc. But you can have a 40" 4k TV for around the same price.
ro53ben to Looking4Glitches
3 Oct 16 #39
Nothing stopping you connecting your PC to a TV - when you do, you'll see the difference.

It was actually connecting my PC to our Samsung kitchen TV that made me upgrade my current monitor. I realised my old TN panel was poor. The blacks were grey and the whites were...grey. Just a total displays of shades of grey. The Samsung TV made it look rubbish, despite being a poor TV quality overall that looked awful on Windows desktop etc.
alexfn
3 Oct 16 2 #38
Claiming an ips panel is washed out while trying to push a tn panel. Should be funny but its not

Tn panels are junk, the manufactures must be laughing all the way to the bank selling 1ms panels to nuggets that think its possible to see the difference between 1ms and 6ms

If these people knew anything about dispays and response time was so important they would buy a plasma not lcd of any type

Cold because its a juck tn panel with tacked on marketing drivel

Swapped from a pg278q to a pg279q. according the to tftcentral the 9q actually has less total lag (response time _ input delay) than the TN counter part.

I have to say, I'm very torn between the AGON I posted and the Acer XF270HU ( http://www.ebuyer.com/720853-acer-xf270hu-27-wqhd-ips-monitor-with-freesync-um-hx0ee-001 ) there's not a great deal of information of information on the AOC, and yet there's a raft of possible quality issues associated with the Acer (as well as Asus) monitors - bleed and glow seem very common.
ro53ben
3 Oct 16 #47
Worth mentioning that I became so paranoid about all the bleed issues, I thought I'd got one - but I hadn't. It turned out the backdrop on the Rainbow Six Siege menus just looks like light bleed, odd lighting on one edge.

Please find me a 144hz 4k monitor of any description.

4K for PC is some way away for feasible gaming and is prone to scaling issues, fine for multimedia or editing, but then I'd pick a 1440p UW instead anyway, more useable real estate.
