True though, Windows phone is dead to me now, been a user since they came out, a shame really it had so much potential but with no apps now, even the crappy ebay one stopped working last week i have to go to android.

I think the iPhone is the spiritual successor of Windows Mobile. Best cameraphones on the market...and the most cohesive user experience.
Android requires far too much faffing. Plus, you can't 2 way sync MS Outlook contacts on Android. Works fine on iPhone.

You don't need any cables to get the Continuum experience: the dock, mouse and keyboard are all optional and support different use cases.

Looking in to this tech further it becomes more and more clear that the whole idea is to have a AIO productive device (Windows smartphone/Windows PC) without carrying two devices.
Once you factor in the need to carry the dock and keyboard and mouse and cables.......and the resulting PC device is very limited compared to a full Windows 10 pc......It's easier and cheaper to simply carry a Windows 10 tablet (with miracast or HDMI) with you.
If you MUST have a Windows 10 smartphone then why not carry a GOLE1 UMPC and have full Windows 10 and Android dual boot without the Continuum dock , keyboard, mouse and cables footprint?

I posted a few comments today defending windows but I have to say the dock sucks. Windows is basic and slow in PC mode. Upside is I sold my for £46 just last week, plenty of buyers from overseas want this and I recommend making sure you make your item available for purchase on ebay via their international export scheme. You post to a local address then they ship it for you. Takes the stress out of worrying if the buyer will claim no receipt as Ebay log that the item was received and sent on to the destination.

Whats app is on the apps store I have it on my lumia 950, theres two facebook apps the one I use is the newly released universal app which is significantly better than the other which I suspect isn't updated. I also have google search from google on my phone. Plenty of Youtube apps with casting function on the windows site, but the youtube website is rendered exceptionally well on internet explorer. Phone has outlook map equivalent to google maps, outlook which works with gmail among others for email. You can also get Co piolet which you don't have to pay for again if you have it on Android you just download login with your user details and your purchased from Android are restored. The music player Grove music is good, but I prefer Core player as it allows you to pick via folder from the SD card. Happy to answer any ones questions if you have any. I have had had nothing but android for years and years and still love it and have a Shield K1. This platform may well die out but the hardware around at the moment is cut priced and pretty good.

I went from a Sony Xperia Z5 to a Lumia 950 the operating system is totally foreign to an Android user and there are allot of negative hence the fire sale of Windows phones. That been said I still have the Lumia 950 and am finding as I use it more and understand its quirks i'd say the hardware such as the camara, screen and general speed of the device is outstanding. App store is lacking big time and even the apps they have like facebook are low feature compared to the Android equivalent. Heres the thing though, I think its still a better phone than what I had. Music play back over bluetooth is excellent. Call quality and signal strength is top notch. Theres a lot to hate here I have to admit but my balanced view is Windows phones are actually pretty good mid range devices if you can accept their negatives.

You don't know what you're talking about.

And the Facebook app has feature parity with Android.
Yes, there are other limitations - but those two apps aren't one of them.

Wow, will probably go cold but this is one hec of a lot of phone and functionality at this price!
Essentially this gives you a fantastic phone that is also a 'pseudo pc' ie when you plug in into a monitor and use the supplied keyboard and mouse you get what seems like a full blown PC with full blown office (and not just an enlarged mobile version, the screen is similar to a full PC so it is genuinely useful!)
* Though you don't actually need them as the phone can also be used itself.

Having been using a Lumia 950 for the last couple of days, if I ever saw another Windows phone again it would be too soon.
Even with the latest version of Windows 10 mobile, it was the most buggy, frustrating experience I've ever had with a phone.
If you're going to use this purely as a PC it may serve a (limited) purpose but don't expect anything from it as a phone. I wouldn't waste my money, IMO you'd be better off getting a Windows tablet with HDMI out.

Yes, but there is a problem with the software. There is no whatsapp, only a basic Facebook app, no Google apps, no Pokemon Go, in fact not very much in terms of quality or high profile apps at all. And in PC mode, you can only run universal apps, which excludes most programs. Great hardware, lack of software.

One good thing about Windows Phone. Microsoft Exchange sync is seamless...
I'm just switching my mum to Android, and can't for the life of me get Outlook contacts to do a two way sync! So I'm now facing the prospect of having to use Google to manage her contacts, and Outlook for her emails. What a faff.

I've bought one of these today but a bit of searching suggests this didn't get the recent anniversary update ( which seemed to have solved/reduced a lot of complaints about windows 10 mobile stability etc and seems pretty necessary then). I just assumed it was a Microsoft roll out for all windows 10 phones regardless of manufacturer. Does anyone know otherwise? Thanks.

I usually run my phone on Windows Insider (Slow Build) ring which means it only gets the relatively stablest of the new updates (they are beyond the Anniversary update now)

I use a Nokia 930 which is now 2 years old. I recently changed to the much hyped Samsung Galaxy S7 which is a terrific phone, unless you drive a lot and want to use it to make phone calls. It is drastic, frequently dropping calls. The S7 has gone back and I am using my ultra reliable 930 on a cheap sim contract. The only problem I ever have with Windows phone is when businesses offer apps but only IOS and Android.
This Acer is great value when back in stock.

Well, not so much now MS are in the process of sweeping out the old Apps and highlighting UWP apps - the store is actually looking better than it ever has though still falls short of iOS and Android.
For what it is worth things should improve now as if apps are developed for Windows proper (Windows Store UWP) then they will also run on Windows Phone. (This wasn't the case in previous versions of Windows where the phone apps had to be developed as largely separate entities).

Yeah, did several resets which was part of the problem. I spent so much time rebooting and resetting I couldn't rely on it as a day to day phone.
And as others have mentioned the App store looks like it's stuck in the '80's !!! Missing a few big names as mentioned (eBay etc) and the apps that are there don't look like they've been updated in years.

I don't know why, but I still like it too! But Microsoft really need to up their game with Continuum - because at the moment, it's even worse than Windows RT (no side by side app snapping, video/audio only working on the app that's open etc).
The platform had so much potential, but Microsoft really are utterly incompetent. Even Windows 10 on the desktop is riddled with bugs. They've also cancelled development of the Band, and stopped production of all Lumia phones. Even if someone wanted to buy a Windows Phone, there just isn't really anything compelling that's available.
iOS and Android need competition. Shame they don't have an from MS.

I'm guessing you got a duff phone because my apps load very fast. Did you try a hard reset? That usually fixes any unusual issues.

Interesting! I will have to mess about with Continuum more. They're continuously improving continuum so issues like that will be ironed out in future. I can't say I noticed the netflix issue (I will try tonight). I forgot to mention that I take snaps on my Lumia 950 and put them on Flickr (just an amateur hobbyist, i'm nowhere near professional standard). But the Lumia 950's camera is definitely one of the best, if not the best camera available on a smartphone.
I agree, the app situation is dire. The fact that eBay and gumtree have jumped ship isn't great. The problem is aesthetics. Outlook on iOS/Android LOOKS 100x better than Outlook on Windows Phone. I don't understand why Microsoft can't understand this and make Windows Phone apps look like their counterparts.
But with all that being said - I still like Windows Phone.

Based on the comments above, potentially it was a dud?
As I say I liked the idea of the live tiles and the retina unlock was cool, but I found the apps so slow to load, it was like going back 10 years!
I had read that the initial software was buggy but that had been ironed out. Despite all the updates, it didn't really change the experience.
I also found the battery life woeful.
Hopefully everyone who's ordered will have a better experience

I bought a 950XL for £140 + display dock for £25. I really wanted to like Continuum, but within minutes, I knew it was hopeless.
As an example, you can't switch browser tabs on Edge without the audio/video cutting out. (So, if you are watching Netflix and want to check an email, then you will lose the Netflix stream).
Speaking of video playback - there were a number of videos on various websites that refused to play at all. It's also not possible to install an ad blocker - which makes performance jerky.
Also, you can't pin apps to the desktop or taskbar...you instead have to go into the start menu (hassle). & wireless keyboards/mice that work via RF adapter don't work either due to no driver support. Speaking of which, most printers also will not work.
I basically used it for an hour before switching back to my Surface 3. I have since sold the XL+dock for £240, and now have a Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Prime. Camera isn't nearly as good....and I miss the slick interface. BUT, BBC iPlayer Radio offline downloads more than make up for any other deficiency. It's also nice having working apps for things like Gumtree, Shpock, Paypal, Ebay & Waze.
Windows Mobile isn't really a smartphone platform anymore. It's a v.slick feature phone that suffers terribly from a lack of apps. Which is a shame.

I do use a Windows Phone on a daily basis as I mentioned in my last post. Honestly, the OS takes a little bit of getting used to, but I think it's extremely under-rated. If you use a Windows Phone for say, 1 month, then return to an iPhone or Android, you'll find yourself missing the live tiles. I've got the news app which learns what new articles I read (boxing, politics etc). I've got the office suite as small icons, so I can access things like my CV and change bits and pieces on the move. I use Outlook, so Outlook Mail/Calendar is great. I've got the live tiles set to use my location, so when I drive 50 miles from home, I get a live forecast of where i'm staying.
And many friends have android/iOS, but I can still chat to them using WhatsApp/Viber. I have instagram. Honestly, it has everything I need. Sure, it doesn't have the likes of Pokemon Go, but I genuinely don't want to spend my time catching virtual monsters (I loved Pokemon when I was younger); i'm almost 30 so I just need my phone for calls, texts, productivity and a good camera, which the Acer has, and the Lumia 950 has.

Really? Your experience is the polar opposite to mine. I bought a Lumia 950 and it has been a rock solid experience. I did have some initial issues downloading the anniversary update but I think that was my internet connection rather than the phone. I've actually retired my Android phone and have made the Lumia 950 my daily driver.
Considering EA Games have just released the BattleLog on Windows Phone, I think there is still life left in Windows 10 Mobile.
Yes, I had a Lumia 1520 but more recently had a loan device from Microsoft (Lumia 950) and really miss it. I am currently using a Samsung S7 but I am looking forward to using the Jade Primo - which will probably become my daily device of choice.

For clarification this phone runs the same Windows Universal Apps (inc things like Office / Word / Excel etc) that full (PC) Windows runs, furthermore, the experience when a keyboard, mouse and monitor is connected to the phone is a full desktop experience, not a 'phone blown up' experience.
