This has been posted in the past but it's now at its cheapest. £89 plus a £10 top-up so just £99 in total. Such an amazing phone for the money. Without getting phones imported you'd be hard pressed to find a better phone for under £100.

Had mine for well over a year and its been faultless so far, lovely screen, fairly quick and the camera is ok, I really can't see why I would pay over 5 times this amount for a phone that would be not 5 times as good!!

Wish I could say the same but image heavy sites like Instagram cause it to freeze for several seconds at a time and comments on the HUKD app don't load more often than not. I don't have these problems on my lowlier specced Moto G 1st gen, so not sure if it is a firmware glitch or not.

I thought the same when I got mine, but then I did get a (slightly older) top range phone, and the difference is immediately obvious. Yes, the Ultra 6 is a good phone, yes, it is great value, but no, it is no match for a high end phone.

Great phone. Been using mine for nearly a year now and bought for £99 then (no top up) so would also have expected it to be slightly lower. Not had any issues with it. Absolutely no need to pay over a ton these days for a phone. Easy to unlock, cost me about £1.60 and now using on three network.

Was a good phone when I bought it in July 2015, but they're not updating it anymore by the look of it, so cannot recommend you buy it - nor the smart ultra 7 - as they only update it for 1yr. Not bad as a stop gap phone.

Brilliant phone, I've had it for a year almost and have been happy with it but the camera is pretty bad, especially in low light settings. Camera spec looks good but it's not compared to other phones, if a camera is a big deal to you, I'd avoid this phone.

24 Sep 16 1 #25
Great for the money. Wife's had it for around a year. As others gave said, negatives are the camera, lack of updates and glue(?) melting round the edge of the screen causing distracting blots over the display.
damadgeruk to livid_chimp
24 Sep 16 #26
My daughters phone also has a glue issue around the edges of the screen, anyone else had this repaired? I ask as I am expecting issues with the Vodafone cs team.
ExVodaUser to livid_chimp
25 Sep 16 1 #50
Voda Smart ultra 6 known manufacturing fault: screen delamination around edges after use in hot environments (summers on the beach), with eventual loss of touch response in affect area. Starts off looking like dust under the screen in sunlight and gradually deteriorates. Voda knows and changes the screen if under warranty. If you got from ASDA and still have the box you can ask for a refund. Maybe also Amazon and others.

Bought this for my son a year ago and it has been a great phone. I'm surprised it has not dropped more in price but were it not for the emergence of some quality Chinese imports it would still be one of the goto budget phones. Yes the camera is not the greatest and the CPU is aging but for 89 quid have some heat.

One Big Downside to This Phone tho is that the Camera isn't Great in low light its awful

I had this problem, sent it off for repair under Vodafone warranty, they couldn't fix it so gave me a new one. Apparantly it's caused by the phone directly being in the sun too long. To be fair, it happened to me when we had that hot weather in July and my phone was in the sun alot.

Had one of these and thought they were awesome, until ...... screen started delaminating around the edges. Meant I couldn't use the outer keyboard buttons (1, 0, q, p, space bar, etc.). Got progressively worse until it came impossible to write a text message, even when rotating the phone to get the keys I needed. Seems to be a common(ish) fault - https://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Android/Smart-Ultra-6-screen-not-responding-on-edges/td-p/2503426 Be careful if buying this and make sure you get it from a reputable supplier!

I've had mine about 4-5 months now, and have been happy with it so far. But like others have mentioned, I paid £99 for it then. And although I feel it's worth the money, I think it should be around the £75-£80 mark by now. Especially considering the Moto G4 deal for £125.

It is under warranty so I took it to a Vodafone store today. Trainee was confrontational from the outset but was clearly clueless as he was trying to take the back off (it doesn't come off).
We're now going to be without a phone for 10 days as they apparently have to send it off to a repair centre so that someone who knows something about phones can have a look at it.
My advice is to avoid anything to do with Vodafone completely.

SU6 has often been available on Amazon for £99/100. Great phone if a tad big for pockets. Unlocking is easy with codes about £2 on ebay. Rooting is problematic and not possible on later productions. Even if you have an earlier production and can Root, custom ROMs are limited. Some good info here.

However it is possible to uninstall almost all the bloatware without Root and disable the rest for a nice stock Android experience.

There is no gyroscope so no good for augmented/virtual reality games.

Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 is made by ZTE (known as Vodafone 995N).

Photos are good in sunlight, a bit dark indoors. I had better results using Snap Camera from Google Play or xda-developers.

The best feature was the fantastic screen... until the glue between the LCD and digitiser on my one failed after summer heat exposure. There are others reporting same screen fault:

ASDA gave me full refund but I was sad to see it go.

Price should have come down by now. Would buy again if it was £75 all incl.

I have one of these and was pleased with it, but the last few months it seems to have slowed down a bit, well a lot actualy. Whenever I try to open a video, I get a rotating circle for a few minutes. it happens in YouTube and WhatsApp messages the most.

Have you tried clearing the cache?
Here's how to perform 'wipe cache partition' on your phone :

With the phone powered off, press and hold the Volume Up + Power button simultaneously for about 10 seconds. When an Android Image displays on the screen press the Power key to enter Recovery Mode. In order to choose "wipe cache partition" use the Volume Down to navigate and the Power button to confirm. Once complete (look to bottom left of screen for confirmation) use volume rocker again to select "reboot system now" and press power button. That's it!

This happened to me too but I'd lost my receipt. I did show them a copy of the receipt I had but they would not accept it. :disappointed:

Also, they insisted the warranty was 12 months even though their website states 24 months!
poisondwarf
1 Oct 16 #60
They wouldnt accept a copy of your receipt?
Was it a photocopy of the original?
Was it a photograph of the original?
Did you pay by cash or card?
gsj87
1 Oct 16 #61
I didn't have to show my receipt, they just looked up my details on their system and found my order. The warranty is 24 months so what you need to do is ring Vodafone Head Office Customer Service and raise it with them. There's no way they can get out of it.
davieg3
1 Oct 16 #62
As I have posted earlier, I have this phone and it has started slowing down when viewing videos.
I tried clearing the cache, as advised earlier in the thread, but after some initial success it seems to have gone back to the same video loading problem
I looked at the MotoG4 the other day, but specs seem similar to this, do any of you think it will be any faster than this phone?
qasiim
1 Oct 16 #63
It was a photograph of the original receipt together with the receipt of the card payment and they wouldn't accept it. I pressed that they could see all the information on the receipts and could verify on their system but they weren't having any of it.
qasiim
1 Oct 16 #64
Thanks for your reply, it's given me some hope. What did they use to look up your order on the system? The IMEI of the phone? Mine is unlocked and I wasn't using the Vodafone network.

Mine is unlocked too and I was using it on O2 so that won't matter either. They just asked for my name, the date I brought it and the card I paid it with. I also took my bank statement with me showing the transaction as I lost my receipt too.

Agreed. IIRC, consumer law requires that you provide PROOF of purchase, which is precisely what you have done. They are breaking the law by refusing to address the fault, IMO. At the very least you can report them to Trading Standards. I would go back into the shop, ask to speak to the manager, quote the Sale of Goods Act (presumabloy CRA was not in force at time of purchase?) and threaten them with Trading Standards if they do not fix the phone or provide a replacement.

I have no legal training 8-)

But in terms of value for money it still beats a high end phone like a iphone or galaxy 7.... well it does for me anyway. If you want to have the latest and greatest then your going to have to spend a lot of money for a phone!
waynester21
5 Oct 16 #70
I agree. I used to have top end phones all the time. I realised I didn't need all that power. I don't think many people need all that power. The Smart Ultra 6 does everything I need and more, and it does it well. Bloatware is something I hated on the top end phones. Having services running which I'd never use. It's ridiculous. I love my close-to-stock Android on this phone
MrPuddington
5 Oct 16 1 #71
Indeed, the software is one of the strongest points of this phone. It is only Android 5.1, but it has a permission system not unlike the one in Android 6.0. Together with the lack of bloat, this makes for excellent battery life as long as keep your background apps in check. I regularly used to get 3 or 4 day on it.

My main complaint about it is the distinctly mediocre camera and the lack of a gyroscope. But getting a gyroscope at this price point is very rare, only the Moto G 4G and the Moto G2 managed that (and then only with 1GB of RAM).
waynester21
5 Oct 16 #72
I had the Moto G 4G when it was on sale for £89 at Tesco. Loved the fact I could use it in a VR headset. It's a shame we can't do the same for the SU6 but I think we can both agree that the pros of this phone far outweigh the cons. I've been using this model for over a year now. It's the longest I've ever had a phone haha I usually get a new one every 6 months.

We have 4 of these phones in our house. Fantastic phone. Daughters broke last week though. Stopped registering to mobile network. Won't search for network either. Bought from Amazon via reputable 3rd party seller. It's under warranty and they have asked me to send it back to them. Has any one else heard of this fault?
Casey2901

Lovin mine. First one froze and then overheated until the battery died. After a phone call, Amazon replaced it the following day and the 2nd one is going great (touch wood).
