Sweet - have just ordered this in anticipation of running it on my PS4 Pro (from the Tesco offer).
I did hesitate a bit as I had already bought it on PS3 but as this also includes the DLC (which I didn't have) and is truly one of the best games ever IMO, I hope to be re-enjoying it with higher resolution and better framerates (PS3 original was 720p and around 30fps IIRC).
The bit where you have to take out a machine gunner in a sniping position and then use it to cover your companions is one of the most involving videogaming experiences I ever had - it was like a cross between watching a truly immersive action film and actually being there, my heart was pounding by the end. I never really felt as much involvement with a videogame before except maybe for some of the set pieces in the Uncharted games (also made by the same studio).
Absolute masterpiece of a game.

The unlocked frame rate mode jumps around between 40-60fps, resting around the 48fps mark on the PS4. The pro version gives either native 4k at locked 30fps (TBC) or 1080p at locked 60fps.

28 Sep 161#65
No, once you purchase this you will get the PS4 Pro 4k version as part of this purchase but obviously not now as the PS4 Pro isnt out!! Buy this and play on PS4 it will download the normal game now. Do the same on a PS4 Pro and it will automatically download the 4k version. Same core game but probably with different update number.
Example: Main game is 39GB download, I presume the 4k update will be another 4-5GB for textures etc and will happen when people use a PS4 Pro/PSN recognizes you are playing with a PS4 Pro.
GreatBallsofFire
28 Sep 16#64
Wrong - it can render true 4k (as can even the regular PS4) - it's just that you won't be seeing many current AAA games in 4k due to the extra overheads imposed by dealing with the ~8 megapixels of a 4k frame vs the 2 megapixels of a HD frame. It's just too many extra pixels to render/process and still keep a good framerate, despite the approx 2x performance increase of Pro over regular PS4.
However, on less demanding games you can get 4k at a useful framerate, typically 30fps. Or you can reduce the level of detail and graphical effects on more current games to achieve the same effect.
Most new games for the Pro will probably render at sub 4k but greater than HD resolutions and upscale though, to get decent framerate, retain the detail and effects, and get some increased resolution.

It is unfeasible to run the same game without greatly reducing the effects or frame rate. To keep everything the same but at 4K the pro would need 4 times its current graphics, it dose not have this. The point is even current game might say 1080p on the box, but they can be rendered lower then upscaled and still called full hd. This is very common. Most PS4 pro game will be a 2k render then upscale to 4K, that's what Sony and MS already do.

28 Sep 16#36
Nothing foggy about it. There is no reason that the PS4 Pro can't do native 4k as long as the game itself isn't demanding. 4k is a resolution spec, pure and simple.
Whether you can do "native 4k" in games or not is only a slightly different matter. 4k in itself isn't actually demanding - my old 7870 would do 4k. If you want to display/update games with heavy effects... that's a bigger ask on the hardware. My single 970 OC will get 40fps on Skyrim 4k but it won't be able to run, say, BF1 at 4k at a playable resolution. To ask the PS4 Pro to run TLOU at native (not upscaled) 4k/30fps.... not unfeasible

i'm still getting one just for the fact that most games should now run at 60FPS at 1080P already got my 2tb from my old ps4 which i just sold before the price plummets. for proper 4k gaming on consoles im just waiting for the scorpio, but the pro is underpowered for 4K gaming, it will be ok for less powerful and older games but i can see it cutting it for new games but if i get stable 60FPS at 1080 im happy

Please consider not wasting your money on a PS4 Pro if just for this. ALL PS4's are getting an HDR update via the firmware and as someone has pointed out down below - literally the only difference is the CPU which is twice as fast. That's it. And unless you have a DECENT 4K TV, with HDR, it is utterly pointless buying a PS Pro with 4K-ish capability and HDR. Put the money towards a nice 2Tb hard disk for your PS4. THAT is a worthy investment.
Soohaiil
28 Sep 16#25
I can understand the skepticism to an extent, but they've been pretty open about the limitations, and what will and won't utilise the method.
DEELZ
28 Sep 16#24
I'll believe it when I see it mate. I was excited for the Pro but I've become very uninspired as to whether it's worth a day one purchase. I am also excited about Scorpio but again, I will reserve judgement until it's out and is running what it promises. The whole 4K situation is incredibly foggy and has been for a while as I'm sure you will agree. There are some real high end PC's that even struggle with it. The problem with 4K is the amount of sub-branding that comes with it.
Soohaiil
28 Sep 16#23
Right - what you mean to say is, PS4 Pro isn't capable of running every game it supports at native 4K. To say it isn't capable of running games at 4K is factually incorrect when two titles have already been said to support native 4K. Here's the announcement straight from the source.
Why is it a bizarre statement? It uses a checkerboard processing method. 4K is s very hazy thing at the moment especially with UHD, 4K UHD, Premium 4K UHD etc
Digital Foundry:
"we've talked about the 4x4 checkerboard process, where a 2x2 pixel block is extrapolated out into a 4x4 equivalent - next-gen upscaling, if you like. It allows developers to construct a 2160p 4K framebuffer from half the pixels - a much closer fit for the Pro's GPU prowess"
Soohaiil
28 Sep 16#21
It's already been confirmed. Elder Scrolls Online will run at native 4K as well.
This is a really bizarre statement.
DEELZ
28 Sep 161#20
Read the small print of the PS4 pro. It's not capable of native 4K. Sonys marketing has been very hazy and smokey to say the least. A 2x Processor and exactly the same amount of ram as the regular PS4 will not be able to do it. That's why as time has gone on there has been such a mediocre response to the Pro.
LetoKynes

28 Sep 162#18
Yes, it will. 4k Last of Us has already been confirmed. It's less effect-heavy than other "modern" games, so 4k won't be an issue. Most PS4 games will only have partial upscale on the Pro but as this one's a PS3 game, native 4k is achievable
Had been looking for this for ages, paid £15 for a physical copy last week.... amazing game.
