So submitting a review using a Steam activated key does not apply weight to the overall rating?
Is that a new thing?

It's an option to filter by, they are seperated by Steam purchase and key activation...
Steam have had a revamp on their review process recently.

Yeah, as of yesterday.
Even though you can switch the filter between Steam purchases and key activations at the bottom, reviews from key activation purchases are no longer taken into account for the game's overall score, which has affect the Negative/Mixed/Positive rating at the top for some games.
Apparently it's to stop developers tampering with reviews by giving out free keys in exchange for positive reviews, but it also affects people who actually paid for their keys - such as crowd funding supporters, purchases directly from the developer (important to indie devs who can make more money this way, instead of having to give 30% to Valve) and, of course, people like us on HUKD who are all about the Humble Bundles and key deals on third party sites.

No one trusts steam reviews... have you read them? 9/10 nothing to do with the game...
