I was lucky enough to pick up a Sony KD-55X8509C for £799. I was hoping to try and find a similar deal for may parents... their TV just died, and I can't a good deal on another KD-55X8509C, how does this compare?
I've got the older 1080p Sony Bravia Android TV, I've been a bit ambivalent about the Android TV functionality as Sony made a bit of a mess of it but it's working much better now. My ageing Nexus Player is still a bit quicker but not quite as convenient as the functionality being built directly into the TV. Yes it can accept Chromecast material as it appears as a Chromecast, however I rarely use that as all my watching is done via Plex and it runs Plex directly on the TV very well. If it wasn't for the audio lead to my HiFi and the HDMI lead to my ancient PS3, its only connection would be to the power outlet. I don't have live TV and haven't had it since 2005, and haven't missed it! It also runs BBC iPlayer and Amazon Video directly although I rarely use those.
I honestly love it. HD programs on platforms like Netflix and Prime are stunning... they look close to 4k. Firmware updates in place, I never have a bother with it.

X8 was last years model, the XD7 is this years model. The X1 Extreme just upscales the colours as the panel only has 100nits of brightness. I have just purchased an ex-display X8005 from Currys for £379. If your after a true HDR picture, you might want to spend a few quid more.

I have looked at all the recommendations on the best 55 inch TV and all the top reviewers don't mention this TV. Does anyone know why ad I am really looking for a good 55 inch to for my daughter

8005 and 8599 are 8bit panels. I have 8599. Happy with it. Sony do not currently sell any 10 bit panels below £1800.

ok, can anyone tell me if this is a true HDR TV? as i read somewhere that anything under £2000 was using a sudo-HDR?
as some have mentioned getting HDR through a firmware update i guess this tv is using sudo-HDR?

it's not really sudo HDR, i think what you are talking about is Ultra HD premium certified TV's which are few and far between and certainly don't exist at this price

Best value/cheapest 10 bit + UHD premium 55 inch tv at the moment would be Samsung ks7000 series imho. Bout £1299 at the moment

Spent ages researching this TV last night. It is 10 bit but doesn't provide proper hdr. It seems a pretty average TV. Saw an in depth that review here http://4k.com/tv/sony-x700d-and-x750d-review-4k-hdr-xbr49x700d-xbr55x700d-xbr65x750d/ in the comments someome mentions its had an update and the reviewer explains its still not got a wide colour gamut and it's nearly good enough. There is another review on rtings.com too. Doesn't do well for hdr gaming getting a 5.6 out of 10.
Me and my partner are keeping an eye out for the Samsung ks7000. On one site I read they said don't go any lower than that. Hoping the price will come down when the new TV are announced may/June sort of time if not before.

Have the sony kdl 50w807c with a 900hz refresh rate. Great for gaming and live sport. However current Sony TVs are beset with software problems that drive you crazy so read the reviews of this TV carefully before you buy. Otherwise a stunning picture on mine when its working properly.

Bought this but is anyone else have lagging issues between apps. It takes a few seconds to respond after pressing the apps button. Also the volume graphic doesn't always show up when used. The processor on it seems a bit weak.

I was considering ordering this TV when i read your notes. Quite a show stopper if the responses are not that good. Have you spoken to Sony support in cast the firmware needs updating or something ?

Bought this TV from RS a few days ago - FWIW finding it an incredibly good piece of kit for the money.. Sure you can get OLED for more, such as a 65" OLED for a few grand lol.. for the price though it's spot on..!
I'm pretty impressed thus far.. was concerned about the refresh rate, 4K accuracy, upscaling from Sky/Netflix signals etc & UI respnosiveness.. Native 4K content looks insanely good, and upscaling is also incredibly nice.. no real issues with motion blur though I've not watched any massively fast moving shows as of yet (just your standard martial arts etc) .. Haven't noticed any issues on it & apps are pretty responsive (Kodi etc) - To be fair, the entire UI is very, very snappy and puts my 55" W829 to shame in that regard! The WiFi is also rock solid - something the fantastic W829 kept on dropping out on & ended up with me going for standard LAN cabling instead.. (one of the very few faults in that excellent set though I have to say)
All in all - a bloody good TV :smiley:

I am looking to replace a 5 year old 42" LG. My son tells me that our LG is unplayable on the new Call of Duty due to input lag. Can anyone comment on how good this one is for Xbox One or/and PS4. If it's good I am going to get one. Probably from Richer sounds due to gaurantee.Thanks
