Still crossing fingers for a successful installation. Got the broadband activation scheduled for a couple of weeks time and the TV in about 3 weeks time.
Hoping they won't ask too many questions about the existing Sky equipment in the house! Think I'll treat it as if I had upgraded my line....

I just called Carphone Warehouse on their 0800 number as nothing like this deal showed up elsewhere. Told the original deal expired but got close to it for £27.40 a month with unlimited 38 mb fibre, Sky Q, box sets and including line rental - this was the big deal for me. So fed up of paying Virgin for a landline I hardly ever use. I also find the TIVO box slow. Only downside was quoted £54 connection fee and they wouldn't budge on this. But its still saving me over £300 a year so I'm very happy.

Try & find someone dishing out friends & family codes. I was lucky to get one & pay £48 a month inc. a Sky Q mini box. About the best you will get. However part of the friends & family deal is the Q box & mini box are only loaned to you & you do not own them after your contract.

Take the old equipment out. They will need to replace your LNB - they may also replace your dish. So make sure there is no access restrictions to your dish.

GIve your address a bit different. live in No 21? give 21a. Mr Jsty lives in 21a, Ms Jstymaidenname lives in 22b - alternate between accounts each year for best deal. anything that does not flag up on their system.

Just got this deal over the phone, they have about 5 vouchers a day the girl on the phone said, £16.31 for 12 months on a 12 month contract.
Winner!

5 Oct 16#14
It was actually more than this (£16.40/mo) as I've had one of these deals on and off for the last 3 years now! Currently paying £37.40 including line rental for this with Fibre as they wouldn't reduce the cost of fibre at all! :disappointed:

Worth keeping in mind for next time - thanks. I keep thinking giving a or b might confuse the engineer when he comes (or he may already know of this trick) but worth exploring

Does SKY Q require more than 2 sky feeds? I live in a flat that has 2 sky connections for Sky+

Just called the 0800 number and was told that the best they could do for fibre unlimited + Q was £37.40pm all in, with £39 fibre + £15 Sky Q activation fee. :disappointed:

It uses a new type LNB that needs the 2 feeds. The new LNB allows you to record upto 8 things at once.

Decent deal, I've just had the Sky Q Silver + a mini box with the boxsets bundle installed (although I think that's a discontinued package) for £12 a month all in - took Fibre with BT instead to maximise a couple of deals.
What worries me is what happens after 12 months. You don't own the equipment, and unless you're successful in asking for a hybrid LNB (I wasn't - they checked the van but didn't have one), after 12 months you haven't even got a freesat style service or the ability to hook an old Sky HD box up for the same purpose.

I thought all Sky plus boxes had to have 2 feeds from the lnb, so that they can record one on vertical polarization while you're watching another with horizontal - (as different voltages are sent up the cable to switch between them) Does the Q box use a different system?

5 Oct 16#28
I am in contract for BB with BT, so went for £30pm for Sky Complete bundle today (inc Movies, Sport and HD everything).
Did anyone successfully get the box sets bundle for £15 without phone/BB? I'd rather not have the sports and movies for the sake of £15 personally...

5 Oct 16#29
Same system I guess, still needs two feed just with a different LNB.
I had mine installed this weekend and the guy said he doesn't keep Hybrid LNB and that its the other higher engineers who have them so I questioned him and said it's stated online and then magically he found 6 port one from his van  Also he took down our old dish and installed a new one in the end quite happy with the lad.

Sky+ had 2 feeds - 1 feed for you to watch TV & the other feed to record. The Q LNB does some nifty things that allows you to watch a channel, while recording upto another 8! There is also a hybrid LNB if you have freesat in another room, as the Sky Q LNB is not compatible with any other satellite box (currently).
northerngeezer
6 Oct 16#31
I have a skyHD box in two other rooms which we use for watching freesat programmes. So do I insist that they fit a hybrid LNB as I don't want to lose that facility.
Also once the new SkyQ box is fitted can I move it to either rooms where the other cables are?
Bossworld
6 Oct 16#32
My understanding is that Sky Q replaces any active Sky HD subscriptions, and therefore multi-room is intended to be handled by additional Sky Q Mini boxes.
When I was doing my research, it appeared that the hybrid LNB was only on offer for people with Freesat equipment (e.g. a Humax box) rather than old Sky equipment being used for Freesat.
The advice given seemed to be to tell the installer that you had Freesat equipment when they called the day before - I didn't get a call but mine was fitted by an agency - they were happy to look in the van for a hybrid but didn't have one.
As the chap a few posts up replied to my post, they are seemingly fairly cheap to buy afterwards, but I've neither the ladders, time, inclination or skill to swap mine out.
With regards to your last point, I believe once you have a hybrid LNB, any of the outputs can be used for any type of box, so you would be able to move it.

I have just phoned sky and the lady I spoke to was very friendly and helpful. I told her I have old skyHd boxes that I use in other rooms for free view. She said that's not a problem and that she has put a note on my account so the engineer will bring a hybrid LNB on Monday for fitting.

Obviously your contract will be with SKY and you will be paying SKY. CPW is simply an agent getting a commission, so probably will only refer you to SKY anyway.

Hope you got yours sorted. I contacted Sky the day after the activation was supposed to have happened and they did some checks then arranged for an engineer to come over the next day to sort out the line - didn't need to enter the house as they could get it sorted outside. Happy days now as my Fiber Max was activated yesterday evening and I'm getting pretty much the advertised speeds. 69 up and 19 down.

It came on eventually. The only problem no is that the internet signal upstairs is not very strong...even weaker then what I had with TalkTalk.

jsty3105
17 Oct 16#43
No worries. Yeah - like you it was sorted within 2 days (so, pretty reasonable response) and didn't require a home visit - just an engineer visit to the cabinet thingy. Very happy that I'm getting close to the advertised speeds.

I'm only getting 10mb as opposed to the 76mb i have signed up to however the 10mb feels faster than my 50mb virgin media connection?
I made sure I had a direct connection from the main microfilter to the hub (had to buy a 5m cable for this). When I get regular sky broadband I noticed speeds dropped significantly without the new microfilter.

I was supposed to get my sky Installed on Friday past but the day before it was cancelled due to the communal system needing upgraded even though I filled in a survey 4 times stating I could have an individual dish and it would now be Nov 27th. I phoned Sky just to cancel the deal and they gave me £40 credit and an upgrade to the 2tb q box and I'll have it installed early November as I'm away on hols. The engineer still came for the phone line on Friday and am getting speeds of 17mb which is more than I was quoted so reasonably happy. My virgin media is due to be turned off today but not up till now.

My TV was due on Friday and broadband was due to be changed today so changed my TV for today, so that I did not have to take a day off work. When I woke up my landline had already been switched over, so set up the new router and all ok, did speed test and am getting 9.10 mb which is more than got with EE. 2 Sky vans turned up this lunchtime, thanks to "northerngeezer" I phoned Sky on Friday and asked for a hybrid LNB, which they brought with them, they erected a new dish and changed the cable to the lounge as it only had one feed, although the box upstairs has two feeds, but they did not ask to check it. The old Sky box still works, so am very happy, I will cancel the TV after 12 months, but it's good to have the 2 feeds to both rooms and a new dish.

I'm sure sky will have deals running. However, I've had nothing but trouble with sky q. The fibre broadband is awful and have had to have a booster which has made little difference. The wifi signal loses connection all the time. Buffering on tv. Phone line crackling. Several calls to sky going round in circles and last thing was they were sending a new part out for the phone line which never arrived!! I will be going back to virgin when contract up because their wifi is reliable!
