Not as good as last years deal at £5 for the year, but not too shabby

Broadband & line rent £64 for a year after £50 credit*

£5.36/MTH EQUIV. SKY NEWBIES ONLY – 29,000 CODES

Available to: 90% of UK

Speed: Up to 17Mb

Download limit: Unlimited

Traffic shaping? No

Contract length: 12 months

Deal requires line rental? Yes

Inclusive calls? No

New line installation: £20

Until Thu 29 Sep, we've blagged Sky newbies (those who haven't been with Sky broadband, TV or talk in the last 12 months) a cracking deal via this specific Sky line rent & broadband* link. It's year's contract and the key is half-price line rental and 'free' unlimited up-to-17Mb speed broadband. Plus, we've blagged £50 bill credit, which covers up to five months' line rental.

Get a code NOW: There are 29,000 codes, You can sign up once you've applied via this Sky link*. you'll also be sent an email with your code and unique link for sign up (one per home, not transferable). You have until 11.59pm Thu 29 Sep 2016.

How it works...

Half-price line rental. It's £17.40 a month, so you pay half that, £8.70/mth (so £104.40/yr). If Sky increases line rental during the contract (as most firms do regularly), you'll then pay half the new amount.

Unlimited broadband 'free' for 12 months. It's unlimited up-to-17Mb speed. After the 12-month contract ends, broadband's £10/mth if you stay.

We've blagged you £50 bill credit. It's added to your account once your bill's active. The first £9.95 pays for the 'free' compulsory router delivery, the rest will be used up on line rental and calls until it's gone, so you won't shell out for up to five months.

Card verification & refund. You pay £5 to verify your card when ordering but it's added to your bill credit.

- How cheap is this all-in? If you add up the line rental, broadband and router p&p, the total over the 12-month contract is £114.35 (at current prices, before calls). But, after the £50 bill credit, it's £64.35 for the year, so it's equiv £5.36/mth before calls.

- What about calls? Calls costs are a bit more than BT to landlines but a bit less to mobiles (11.5p/min to landlines and mobiles, 16.9p connection-fee). Sky also has an unbilled calls credit limit – see below for info.

- Need a new line? If you don't have a line, or you're switching from cable, you'll need to pay £20 for a new line. However, if you have a BT line but pay another provider to use it, or you pay BT for your phone line, you may still have to pay the fee (see below).

- Direct debit is the only way to pay. You won't be able to get this deal otherwise.

Think it works out about 13 n half quid per month on the first one including activation fee, whilst the second one works out at about 18 n half quid a month(both unlimited fibre)

so what you paying per month for broadband and line rental after cashback and prepaid card?

Go with BT, moved from Sky standard broadband to their unlimited Infinity for our new house in March getting £100 Quidco and a £200 pre-paid MasterCard and even did it again in July for one of our flats we rent out getting £70 Quidco and a £125 pre-paid MasterCard.

Obviously you need to make sure you jump on the right offer and there is bully activation fee I think but I think the one we got for our home worked out around 13 quid a month over the 12 month contract with the cash back and pre-paid card

they're planning to charge me £22.35 monthly. I told them it's wrong, as I had an offer with half price line rental and cash back etc, and have been told that they can't find anywhere saying that from my account. I sent them an order summary's pdf and hopefully they will sort this out for me. does anyone have this issue?

Got mine setup yesterday. All good and well, Getting 39.99 download and 8 Up, more or less the same as when I had EE.
They (EE) told me my signal booster (for mobile) wouldn't work on Sky,or any other provider, but it's come up all good and dandy. Happy days....!

Brilliant, got mine connected this morning, I'm getting 24mbps, although it said I would get 6, the BT exchange is at the end of my road 280 metres according to the engineer, he said it will be super fast, I have set a reminder to cancel in September.

My activation date is sometime next week, but though my router(paid the £20 for the Q hub) has arrived, I have no details of my order available to me on my online account. Also, I'll be moving from EE, and have a signal booster box. My only worry is if that doesn't work.

Have now switched and all complete and running. Was really easy. I remember the first time I switched many years ago and it was a nightmare of constant calls and connection hassles. This time Sky did it all, router arrived in good time, very clear instructions, switch on happened seamlessly, simply unplugged EE router and plugged in Sky router and within a minute was live. Thanks OP!

I can't see any reason why not. My EE signal box is downstairs in my lounge running of a network switch which is fed via a powerline extender. My BT router and before that the Talk Talk Router are/were upstairs and the signal box works fine. As long as it's being fed internet I think it should be fine. When I ordered mine they knew I wasn't with EE broadband wise.

I want to move over to this deal from EE Home BB, but I use an EE signal booster box for my EE Mobile at home. Will it still work with a Sky Router/Broadband? I've phoned EE and they've been unhelpful saying 'no', but looking in there forums some say it does.

Cancelled my Virgin media fibre (£33.25/month) and signed up with this offer today as I don't need fast internet. £64.35 for the year plus an installation fee of £20 as I have no phone line currently (no fee if you're with BT).

Gave them a call this morning to check activation dates and was told it would be the same date as installation but as it was a long wait (I didn't mind as I chose it myself) I was also offered Sky TV Box Sets (everything excluding movies and sports) free for 12 months with free installation and equipment. Also a 12 month contract so just a freebie. Obviously I took it but didn't ask for it... Bonus!

personally I cant fault TCB, never failed to pay me , tho same cant be said for quidco, but I guess as always its a bit hit n miss at times,

never take a deal thinking your going to get cashback,

cashback is a bonus should it get paid
crgritchie
26 Sep 16 #243
I very much doubt it. In fact, I would not trust Sky to pay TCB full stop, still waiting on £70 TCB from them for a contract I took out in January. The MSE is better as you pay less up front and works out better overall, so definitely go down that route!

Hi, I've just been having a read of the T&C from a link within my newly formed Sky account page. I think the 18/12 month confusion might be coming from the fact that it looks like they have recently changed their T&C for Fibre Broadband. Here is a quote from their T&C:

Sky Broadband general: £9.95 router delivery charge applies. Speeds vary significantly by location. 12 month minimum subscriptions. New 12 month minimum subscriptions for Sky Fibre, Sky Fibre Max + Sky Talk & Line Rental. Separate contracts apply to Sky TV, Sky Broadband/Fibre and Sky Talk. No traffic management policy for Sky Broadband Unlimited, Sky Fibre and Sky Fibre Unlimited in the home. External factors such as internet congestion can affect speed.See sky.com/sho…and for more details and our Usage Policies. MAC users receive 12 months free McAfee VirusScan worth £19.99. McAfee Free Trial: Sky Broadband 12GB -3 months; Unlimited, Sky Fibre and Sky Fibre Unlimited & Sky Fibre Max -12 months, then £3 pm unless you contact us to unsubscribe.

Note the bit in bold and the use of the word "New".

Thanks ... I deleted cookies and started again and just as I started by coincidence an email with the code finally came through! But even then I had a problem with the £50 not showing as a discount on my offer, so I clicked on the proceed button just to see if it would show up and it did on the next page, but down at the bottom hard to notice. I took screen shots just in case! Anyway, have signed up and check out added up correctly with the discount so here's hoping for a hassle free transfer. EE have been great but am now paying full cost so needed to change. I had SKY a three or four years back too and the BB was fine ...

Can this be ordered separately with the sky installers tv codes so as in order this deal for bb and the tv offer £35 for the rest ?
horatiog
21 Sep 16 #223
Yep. I made that point several posts ago. However, the first page of the deal definately says the contract only lasts for 12 months for both the Talk & Broadband products. Luckily, I've got a screendump of it. Also, I'm sure that the length of the contract cannot exceed the length of the co-offered deal.

I mentioned before I got my husband to join to get around the new user issue - only thing is, for some reason the 'installation' date is 2 weeks after my contract runs out, even though he wrote that he is moving in the day after!
I tried asking why (it appears it was a month after he applied for the deal) but the Sky rep insisted it was not to do with me but the 'available date' and that my husband should call. I don't see why they can't just switch the internet on any day, since I already have sky and don't require an engineer? So odd! And they say I am going to be billed 24.95 for the two weeks!

Call them and see what they'll do for you. If your contract is coming to an end they'll renegotiate and even if you're mid contract they can still do a deal for you. Depends on who you get on the end of the phone and how pleasant you are to talk to.

One year £33 all in each month everything including top tv package. The next year 75% off plus £100 voucher another year they paid me after topcashback and various deals by manipulating the webpage, last year it was £5 for a whole year but no tv included. This weeks MSE deal is broadband and line rental (no TV included) £64 for the whole year after £50 credit so just over £5 a month. Moral of the story if you are prepared to search and do your homework sky can be real cheap great find OP as you said not as good as last year but good enough for a new customer

19 Sep 16 #196
Hi
Seems like a very good deal. I am currently on Virgin and my renewal is due soon.
Planning to go for the fibre deal:
Line Rental: £8.70/mth
Fibre Broadband: £10/mth
Total/mth = £18.70 / £224 year

£224 - £50 credit = 174 / £14.5 per month

So the fibre deal work out £14.5 per month. Am i missing something?
Gogetit009
19 Sep 16 #195
Ok ..if we cannot escape £20 for connection and £9.95 for delivery of router (even though we don't need another router), then the total cost is
= 104.40 (8.70 x 12) + 29.95 - 50 (credit) = 84.35
that comes out to be around £7 per month

Damn Sky .. just spoke to Emma on 03300 412 548 (Broadband Cancellations) and and she was the most unhelpful person I could have spoken to ...

The only offer she was willing to throw my way was 12 months free broadband, normal £17 odd per month line rental, and begrudgingly a 1 month free via bill credit.

I pushed for more, and told her I had a MSE code which worked out at £64.00 per year all in ... and if necessary my wife would sign up as a new customer at the same address ... Emma then replied that all calls are recorded, and Sky would reject the new application ...

She then hung up on me !!

Ggrrr .....

They always add up that.

I signed up earlier (Goes live on the 27th) before this deal and they were offering a £100 mastercard and hopefully £50 quidco Cashback so, neglecting the fees for line connection and equipment delivery that works out £17.40*12 = £208.8 - 150 = £58.8 or £5 a month.

This deal is a downgrade from that :stuck_out_tongue:

Gone for the fibre option, with the 50 quid credit its essentially 3 months free and then £19 for the next 9 months.

Broadband = Free
Line rental (50%) off: 8.70 per month
New Phone Line Installation £20

Is there a way to get rid of £29.95 extra

no, you can sign up and take over the line, your flatmate will just have to pay any remaining months left on his contract.
CEngineer
18 Sep 16 #186
I currently live in a flat where my flatmate has sky, but he wants to cancel because price has gone up after one year. I'd like to take this offer, but the guy from the live chat says that I'd have to wait until my flatmate has completely cancelled (one month after giving notice) before I can buy Sky broadband for the flat. Is this correct?

This deal will have expired by then so I'm a bit confused on how people are cancelling and another person signing up to take the deal? Any help appreciated, thanks!

Hi PDALEY1. Have just signed up to the fibre deal. I also noticed this (after the event!) However, as I usually do, I took screen dumps all the way through the sign-up process. I was convinced I had seen that the minimum contract lengths were 12 months in the case of both Talk & Fibre. Sure enough, when I went back and checked the screen dumps, it did say this. So we have them stating a 12 month contract at the beginning of the sign-up and, then at the end, hidden away in the small print, it says 18 months for Fibre. However, with the screen dump, I think I stand a very good chance to say I signed up to a 12 month deal, not an 18 month one. (I think there is also legislation now, that states that a contract cannot exceed the period over which the co-offered deal is in place for?)

Sky don't install white wall points like Virgin or BT do. With Sky it's quite literally a cable fed directly from the satellite dish into your Sky box. They drill a hole through a wall of your choosing and feed the cable through it, then screw in F connectors to the end of the cable and screw those into your Sky box.

got a favour to ask if anyone would oblige. the sky tv service that comes in the house, can anyone show me a pic of what it looks like please. Virgin has a whitish box that you connect the superhub and tuvo box too. I want to see the equivalent of sky so I can tell the engineer where to place the box. I know the the sky modem/router plugs into the phone line so i know where thats going to go. Just want to know about the tv service connection. if anyone can take a pic of theirs it would be appreciated. thanks.

HUKD should allow people to say whatever they wish in these threads before they start giving deal posters 0.6 pence in bitcoins for whatever deal they posted if you ask me.

I care because the the merchants have to pay the affiliate networks a reasonable amount of money. That cost sadly eventually gets passed onto us consumers which means higher prices. You could argue that the increased volumes result in lower prices, maybe that might be true but the whole situation stinks in my opinion.

Where's the transparency? In my opinion, everyone here who posts deals should get a cut of the affiliate income. That seems pretty fair to me. How much though, well, it should be a reasonable proportion of how much hotukdeals are making.

"I have a lot to say about hotukdeals too and quidco might I add. Quidco was good once upon a time, it shook up the industry but now they're just as bad as what they tried to replace."

So you're suggesting money talks and that people in positions of influence like to make money, is that right?

Well if I was in a position of influence I would take every penny everyone wanted to throw at me....legit or corrupt it matters not, I'd take it!

I'm not going to be some hypocrite red preaching about the rich getting richer bla bla bla. I don't care about them so why should they care about me because I got less than them?

Life ain't fair, it never has been and never will be so deal with it

It's not unfounded when you have about 15 years of forum posts to go by. And yes I agree, he owned the information because sadly those people either chose to put it there, or didn't realise they were enriching him by doingso.

I have a lot to say about hotukdeals too and quidco might I add. Quidco was good once upon a time, it shook up the industry but now they're just as bad as what they tried to replace.

I'm sure if the money people were making from this information, was properly laid out to bare, there would be a lot of anger. How much money does hotukdeals make? How much do the people posting these deals, out of the goodness of their heart, actually make from them? How much do hotukdeals make? How much do Maple Syrup Media make? How much have they made over the last 15 years or so?
How much does an ad for quidco cost on the underground, whilst they're offering 100% cashback to people? How much are these middle men costing us consumers in the long term?

I am interested in people saving money and quite frankly, businesses like hotukdeals and MSE take from the merchants. That money has to come from somewhere.

maybe you'd like to be more careful before making slanderous and unfounded comments.

There was no 'ripping off', the content is his, all content on the site belonged to him when he owned the site.

Just as all your posts and deals on here belong to the owners of this site, which I may add rake in a big wedge of cash when you go to buy something.

How come you have bad things to say about MSE who make money from their users, and not this very site you're posting on?

That's often the criticism levelled at people who highlight other peoples greed. Make no mistake, Martin Lewis made an obscene amount of money out of his 'money saving website'., and if his forum is anything to go by, to some extent he ripped off other peoples ideas, under the guise of 'that's my information because you posted it here'. He makes out he is the expert at saving money, when in fact there are people on the forum who know more about it than him.

What Martin is really good at is making money, not saving it. I'll give him that. He's definitely better at making money than me. He is the Money Making Expert.

Put it this way; Martin and his website are part of the problem not the solution. In some ways, he's no better than the profit hungry companies he moans about and that we have been led to believe that he's 'fighting'.. What's that again? Did I hear the words, Money Super Market?
Thanks

Its been a couple of years since i played this game but you could try calling Sky to say your moving out into a property and you wish to pay off the remaining contract as you dont want to take it with you. I think, if you want fibre, the other deal with TV is still marginally better for me. YMMV.
This one with fibre works out at £8.70 + £10 per month.
The other one work out at £21.31 p.m. but I'm expecting £50 back from cpw, resulting in £17.14 p.m. (but I'm a little uncertain what additional up front charges I might get... I've got fibre already, but might need to pay for a fresh connection?)

I have been told that the switch squad does not work with Virgin Media - I have to do it myself (which I did yesterday). I used to be a BT customer around 15 years ago, so do have an old phone socket near the front door, but have been told that I need a new BT Open Reach socket (the NTE5 one as you mentioned) - I have already paid Sky £20 to install this so the engineer should know about that. I just wanted to know if the internet cable with the Sky router plugs in to this socket along with the telephone, as if it does I have to think about where in the room I will need it to be installed. I am in the process of changing over to Sky (30 day's notice period with Virgin Media). I currently have a phone line, Tivo Box and up to 200 Mbps fibre with VMedia and have signed up for phone, family tv and unlimited fibre with Sky. Can somebody tell me if the fibre with the Sky box goes through the telephone line, or does it connect to the thick, white cables that are currently running around my room to my current VMedia internet box on my desk? I am getting a new phone line installed as I currently don't have a suitable one to run Sky's phone. I was planning on moving furniture around and having my computer in the opposite corner of the room, so need to know if a phone line will need to be installed near the computer or not (if the internet connects to a phone line) - I did the order on line through Quidco, so don't actually know. Sky ADSL yes - you can capture the user/pass from the router (I think the old sagem sky router password site is supposed to work for it too) or just use the o2 ones:-
username '[email protected]'
password 'password'

You would need to retain and plug in the sky router if you require support with a connection problem.

Sky "Fibre" - It is against their terms and condition to use another router on their VDSL service, but apparently some customer's do.

I reckon for fibre the BT 125 mc plus 207 tch if you add on a 60 quid sim and free tv works out cheaper for 12m

205 line rental 50 connection 12.50 x 12 fibre 12 x 5 sim 8 modem 10 tv box less 207 tcb and 125 mastercard and 20 amazon card = 133

Adsl is 85 less ie 48 as you save 50 connection and 5 x 12 bb rental but lose 50 of mastercard (only 75)

Is my maths right?

I don't suppose you can used the sky 50 quid account credit code with the 40 quidco and/or the alternative free bb 100 mc no half price line rental offer

There's got to be a place in the market for a provider that just gives you the best price they can, all the time.

No bartering/retentions / cash back /new customers only / existing customers only etc etc.

Gets a bit tiring!

17 Sep 16 #55
Really? We always get the same speed whichever up to 17mbsnsupplier we go for because of the distance to the exchange.

We got the sky mse deal last year for about 4 quid total to pay over 12 months so this looks like an increase...plus of course this year we need to go elsewhere to be a new customer unless anyone knows otherwise?
PDALEY1
17 Sep 16 #57
it was at the bottom of the page mate, 18 months on fibre = 12 months on this offer then the price will go up. However the price will increase in 12 months no doubt so you will be able to cancel at no cost anyway

sounds like neinneinnein already have sky phone line conected to property. so i guess only way to do it is to go away from sky first in order to use under different name. withaout that i dont think there is a way round. this is my understanding. of course i may be wrong.

mine is up for renewal from last years similar deal. best they offer me is £7.40 discount on line rental. £10 PM all in.
mentioned this deal, but as it says for new customers only and because i had good offer for past year it is not 'sustainable' !
i am happy with that. not had any issues in past year with sky.

my SKY bb contract expires in 1 month, so my housemate can take a new contract as a new customer however, you can't place a new order when the sky account is active on the address. You can do it only after the existing line/bb is off and then you have to wait for 2 weeks for SKY to activate new account, which means - staying without broadband for two weeks!

I signed up a couple of weeks ago and hit £65 from TCB and £100 pre paid master card from sky which worked out about £10 cheapercheaper than this.

Question is, how much are MSE making on these 29,000 subscriptions? Should we assume they're getting £50 too? Even £25x 29,000 sounds pretty nice. I guess Martin Lewis's flights need paying for.
Reebok.Ron
17 Sep 16 #37
I'm with Sky now and I managed to join up on the last deal they had even though I'd been with them less than 12 months prviously. The way to do it, assuming you have a middle name, is to put your middle name and surname in as your surname and it accepts you as a new customer (I also used different email and credit card to be sure). So for example if your name is John Allen Smith put Allen Smith in the surname box.

good luck with sky had to go through the ombudsman to get it out .we had their engineers out 6 times receiving 4 mbs they said although the broadband was poor their other services were good so they would not let us out of contract ombudsman agreed with us happily were now with virgin 68 mbs and we have free sky for the year

i got the old deal but when that ran out , i was given the £10 a month for BBand and line rental , not as good as the 1st offer for £5 for the year but to me its the best around , i just wish they put in the tv package for another £5 so making it £15 for tv-BBand and line rental , now that would be a great deal

Been with Sky for years, was paying full price and had decent enough broadband. Took the offer last year and had the worst internet ever. Constant dropping out, speeds as low as 0.04mbs, a total waste of time.

Edit: And 5 mins after posting this it goes off again :disappointed:

It depends who you speak to in retentions and how the conversation goes. I'm also on the '£5 for a year deal' from last year and called up to see what they could do for this year. The original offer was the same as yours – another year of free broadband but I had to pay the line rental in full – which I rejected and pointed out that both Plusnet and Talktalk were doing deals involving cash back that brought the cost down to between £8-£9.25pcm. Bingo, that's all it took (I guess that are all fully aware of each others offers), as the next suggestion was free broadband and a £7.40 discount on line rental (effectively £10pcm all in). I'm just kicking myself that I accepted this right away – in retrospect, given how quickly they caved in, I'm sure I should have held out for a bit more, such a free calls pack or whatever, but hey ho… From past experience, if your conversation with retentions doesn't go they way you want, just finish it off for then and try again a bit later, next time you may get a more sympathetic or helpful agent.

This has come at the perfect time as ive cancelled with VIRGIN and its going to go off on the 25th Sept. theyve not rung so far and was going to ring them. might just have to go through with the cancellation and go with this deal. only issue is fibre is not active in my area which is a PITA so not sure how im going to cope with 17meg download speed when ive been used to 70

we do alot of streaming and this offer is unlimited so so worries about how much we download. just worried wether the speed is going to be enough for us....

whats the bare minimum speed for streaming 720 videos?

The Sky router plugs into the telephone socket. It is fibre to the street cabinet and VDSL over the phone line from there to your home. It is usually recommended to have the router near the phone socket and run Ethernet cable from the router to the pc.

I have a four port ethernet socket near my phone socket, they can be re-tasked as phone line extensions just as well as ethernet connections by plugging in the right cables in each end (4 pin rj11 sockets fit them). Although these days I just use dect phones and have the router plugged in next to the phone socket.

The open reach engineer won't install telephone extensions when he fits your socket. The sky installer might do when he comes to install the shotgun coax cable for the sky dish though.

whats nonsense?

its as clear as day.

sign up at half price line rental, add router delivery charge, subtract £50 bill credit, and you're at £64 for the year

I just use their router for the actual connection and then feed off that to my own router. Yes I have to port forward twice but not a real problem.

MSE is owned by Moneysupermarket,i guess they aren't doing it without making something out of it,after all they are a business not a charity,it's a bit like the cheap energy club, they get £60 for each switch & they pass on half of that back to the consumer, decent deal imo

so if I go for the sky fibre unlimited option, it will cost me £120 more for the year? hows sky fibre service? not sure which option to go for really? we do a lot of streaming at my house so the fact that its unlimited is a bonus but not sure what kind of speed I can realistically get in my area/road?

any place I can check actual download speeds on a particular road/area?
MBeeching
17 Sep 16 #1
What a myriad of nonsense and figures. Do this, do that, the line rental is this but then you get that. Then cashback makes it cheaper, but add that and minus something else.

Presumably this all adds up though and might be a good deal?
