Why play Streets of Rage when you can hop on a bus to Manchester and live it?

I still can't get used to Sega games being on a Nintendo machine. For someone who grew up in the 90s, it'd be like Sony making a game for the Xbox One now

Really want to see some of the classic master system games on the 3DS. The Alex Kid series, Shinobi, Rastan, Wonderboy series, Fantasy Zone, R-Type.

Also other Mega Drive games like Road Rash series, Golden Axe series, ToeJam & Earl, would be better title choices on Eshop.

+ many others that escape my mind right now.

Out Run is just amazing. Already have the arcade perfect port on the Japanese Sega Saturn as well as Power Drift, which i bought from Cex in Leeds way back in the late nineties when they were still selling imports.

Trivia: The original prancing horse logo on the back of the Testarossa is changed as Sega no longer has rights to the Ferrari brand. Everything else in the game is the same though!

I've seen a few people say Gunstar Heroes is great but it doesn't look like anything special from the videos I've found, what am I missing?

I didn't say it's like 2 decades old tech handhelds,I was referring to gaming consoles in general including home consoles and I'm right about that..the GBA is also made by Nintendo..same approach..although things were different in that era..
I said 3DS compared to Vita looks like 2 decade old tech,there was obviously some exaggeration.
Vita was not successful for various reasons (marketing,lack of support,etc etc) but you cannot deny the fact that it is massively superior to 3DS,it has much better build quality,and has a screen that is so high quality and high resolution that 3DS looks ancient and embarrassing compared to it,and costs the same,has same form factor.
this shows how backwards the 3DS tech and design is.no one cannot deny that.
why and which console was more successful is a different subject and irrelevant to this discussion.

Given the gameboy advance had 240x160 15yrs ago and the colour wasn't too great, if have to say a defence was made to your criticism

Can one of the experts please clarify where the Vita's second screen is, how the top half closes neatly over the thumbsticks, and how the hell you get the Super Stable 3D to work, 'cos I've been looking and I just can't figure it out.

battery life of either Vita /3DS can varry depending on the game,3D effects being on/off,volume level,onlibe use etc.
I have both systems and also has every single version of 3DS from launch and while I didn't sit there with a click meausuring exact battery life,I can tell battery life of the 2 are close.
then you vonsider Vita is basically 2-3 generatins ahead of 3DS and you will instantly forgive any lower battery life.
The point is you cane and said 3DS compromised and outdated hardware is because they wanted to balance battery life and portability,which is complete nonsense.
the only reason is their business model trying to milk old,ancient technology because they think their software and games and sometimes gimmicks sell their system anyway.
it worked with wii,ds and 3ds but bombed with wii u and good luck to themwith nx.have to wait and see.

If by similar battery life, you mean the 3DS lasts twice as long, then yeah, you are right.

Those two terms are separated for a reason, to not be mixed up.

It is a "handheld console".
the ones you mentioned are "home consoles".

I bought Streets if Rage2 and Shinobi 3 last night,despite having both on original Megadrive cartridges as well as in ROM form on emulators.

they look fantastic with 3D effects.and overall play and sound really good.

there are also some added features here and there so it's not just cheap emulation.

the only problem is 3DS D-Pad feels so uncomfortable and holding it is so un-ergonomic compared to say Vita.
but then its 3DS..so..I stay %100 by my opinion about 3DS,but at least for these retro games the low quality screen and weak graphics and internals doesn't make any difference.

Space Harrier, Outrun, Super Hang On are all arcade ports. All of the games you'd expect to be arcade ports are, except for Altered Beast but that was always terrible anyway.

Im sure i got something similar from argos years ago. It came with loads and loads of megadrive games and you could add more roms to it if you wanted. Buttons naffed up after a year but it was good fun!

Could someone confirm whether these are megadrive or arcade ports?

maybe be an irrelevant post, but i bought i name held console that looks like a psp, plays really well (not a chore to play not dodgy buttons etc...) and has all these games and about 7 more (including micro machines :smiley:) for ten quid delivered from eBay.

side note to this posting i know, but great wee holiday gadget for half hours entertainment.

The 3DS is a fantastic little machine with a storming software library that will be completely upgraded by the NX in the coming months. The Vita and the PSP before it wildly outperformed their Nintendo counterparts technically, but died commercially whilst the DS family enjoyed phenomenal success. Handhelds have, traditionally, never relied on power to attain market share, they thrive on content and battery life. Mobile phones will be the trend that drives gaming tech hereon in and I would expect the NX to reflect that, in screen quality if nothing else. Anyway, you really can't knock the 3DS IMO, from the pov of software it is by far and away the strongest, non PC gaming platform around right now...I take mine everywhere.

The screen is fine, the hardware is fine. Of course they could have upped the resolution or increased the power, but you have to balance everything with battery life and portability.

Remember completing the sit down arcade space harrier when I was a kid, the only arcade game I ever beat :P

I was talking about 3DS in general,not specifically about these games.
I'm all for retro games and all but I was saying 3DS hardware,specially the screen is so poor which is a shame as it seems they really don't want to milk old,outdated,cheap tech as much as they can.that's all.

of course it has great games and the library is so much better than Vita..no one can deny that.but that doesn't mean the system is all that good.imagine if 3DS had hardware close to Vita or an screen close to vita..I'm not talking just about these 16Bit Sega games..in general.

Eh? These look great on the new 3DSXL I have the Vita OLED and yes the screen is better but we're talking about playing 20+ year old games and the resolution of those was a ton lower than a 3DS screen. Picking up the ones I don't already have, cheers OP.

The screen resolution is rubbish by todays standards. But the software library is SO strong (a million times better than the Vitas and thats coming from a Playstation fanboy since the PS1 days). The games are so good I'm prepared to put up with low res screens, you stop noticing once you get lost in a game.

The last thing you want to do is bring the Vita into the discussion. Barring semi-decent tech, the Vita has nothing on either 3DS or DS.

The 3DS version runs at 60 fps whereas the arcade version ran at 30 fps, hence it looks buttery smooth in comparison.

There is a cheat to run at 30 but why would you do that? :-)

Might be a daft question but what are these like on a 2ds? are they tweaked with better graphics etc curious about streets of rage,outrun and space harrier.

I can at least confirm Outrun is the arcade game, NOT the Megadrive game! The best of the bunch - until Powerdrift EVENTUALLY gets released here ....

Sonic 1 & 2 having been left out means they must be selling too well to add them in the promotion. Fingers crossed for a Sonic sale in the future I suppose, though the last time the Sega 3D classics were on sale were over a year ago ...

Streets of Rage 2 and Gunstar Heroes are both all-time greats.

Both have incredible soundtracks too.
