Some notes from 16 page PDF Manual:
1. They say allow 3 hours after delivery (ie shake-up) before powering up for first time. - page 7
2. As androoski has reported - does explicitly say "This Appliance is suitable to be placed in garages." - page 7
3. Describes it having a defrost drain hole at back left corner/side of the unit [ie relevant to positioning it] - page 10
If ordering and choosing to have "product recycling @ £0.00" ie old appliance removed, don't get confused as I did when their order process shows items as "Delivery only... collection not available". That just refers to the new ordered item, ie you can't collect your freezer from a store; it does not mean they've said "we won't recycle/collect old item".
PLUS: Their website registration as well as extending the maker's warranty from 1yr to 2yrs for free, also offers 2yrs extended cover (ie 4yrs total) for £29.99. (Otherwise your consumer rights are against the reseller, not manufacturer, and realise it wont cover loss of food due to product failure - should be checking your house contents insurance for that sort of cover.)

Looks good and comment say people use it in the garage.
But can't find info in description whether its suitable for garage hmm.
Found this on different website *
This 197 litre Chest Freezer has a large capacity, so is perfect if you're short on freezer space. With adjustable feet and an adjustable thermostat, this freezer can be adapted to suit you and is designed to work outdoors, so can be stored in a garage. This freezer also features a counter balance lid.

Been looking to upgrtade the old Scandinova chest freezer I have in the garage. Still works but is over icing and rusting on the outside. Got it with the house and goodness knows how old it is. It's still functioning and I think it's about 250 litre and currently full.
This is such a good deal but can I sacrifice 53 litres.. hmmmf.

With the energy savings you derive from a modern freezer you could rebut the good filling that extra space and still have money over... assuming they are crispy pancakes and not foie gras.
Fridges and freezers are by far the largest consumers of electricity in the home, replace it.

I've got an ancient freezer but it has given fabulous service (one hinge finally died last month). I'm worried about these modern appliances that give up the ghost within 5 years. If my freezer was human it would have left home and been a voter for a good few years. Conflicted.

Just point out that this is a ST climate class, meaning it works well between 18c and 38c.... so if you have it a coldish place it will stop working. 18c in reality is probably more like 14c..
So in reality it needs to be a palce were it's constantly warmish.

Are you saying that this cannot be kept out in the garage in winter, as opposed to what the manual says (no winter caveats)?

Oh dear. Wish I'd read this first. Living in a pretty cold Scottish town, tempratures get down to freezing during the winter. SHIZ!!

25 Sep 161#36
Whilst technically it's an ST class freezer, manufacturers will guarantee freezers for use below the minimum temperature. Beko, for example, guarantee their freezers can be used down to -15C. In this case Russell Hobbs claim it can be used down to -5C, so it should be fine for use in a garage.

Would love to know the difference in energy savings in the two chest freezers:
The new Russel Hobbs states Energy Consumption 219 kWh/annum
The amount of electricity used per cycle, as measured in kilowatt-hours
My old Scandinova states 180 kwh/24 H as pictured

I'd be careful disposing of that old thing. Will emit a lot of CFC I imagine if it's not disposed of properly.
There's no chance the old one is more efficient, so no fear there.
Bear in mind that like anything else that's old it won't be working as efficiently as the day it was manufactured, 80% of the claimed efficiency wouldn't be uncommon.

That seems a bit excessive. Since electricity is typically charged at around 10p per kWh, that would mean your freezer would cost £18 a day to run, or £6570 a year. I think there is probably a decimal point in there somewhere. Perhaps 1.80?

Think you are doing very well for your electricity unit cost. I am with Scottish Power Fixed Price,Dual Fuel, and paying by direct debit. Supposed to be a good deal. Almost impossible to find the current unit cost on their website. Pages of bumph, with no unit costs displayed. More like 14 pence per unit as far as I can tell, plus daily service charge.
Think if you post your supplier at 10 pence per unit it would reach 10000 points. I promise to vote it hot.

Same issue here - ours is over 30 years "mature" but is definitely in its dotage and this offer was irresistable in pensioning it off - ie rusting/noisy/using-too-much-electricity/etc - at long last.

I'm glad tahir_owen pointed out that this range is only classed as ST - I never knew this and wondered why Russell Hobbs freezers are always the cheapest ones. Now I understand that even though they can be placed in the garage they probably won't work efficiently below 18C and could stop working all together if it gets too cold.
Having read a bit more into it I think I will wait for Beko to drop in price. Their freezers will work nicely down between -15C and 45C - so well within ranges for UK garages!

Fine. My tariff is the British Gas MSE Collective Fix Oct 2017 where the rate is actually 9.293p/kWh.The standing charge I pay is completely irrelevant because that has nothing to do with owning a freezer and is not charged based on what you consume.
But regardless of whether my electricity rate is 10p/kWh or 14p, the point I am making is that the Scandinova freezer consumption will not be 180kWh/24hrs. More like 1.8.

Oh dear - sorry to see that - very obviously damaged in transit there!
Clear moral in that story for rest of us - ie to ensure product looks good out of packaging - though can't power it up for 3 hours!

yup. Especially the way couriers manhandle larger boxes, from loading multiple items at the depot, to pulling it out from the back of the van. Annoyed, I selected the "disposal packaging" option. They asked if wanted it taking away - said nah don't worry about it as we'd be moving some stuff around first, plus packaging itself looked fine. Monday 3/10: Had an SMS with 3.25hr delivery window for tomorrow morning.
Tuesday 4/10: Delivered today in promised window with a 15 minute away alert call. Only one cheery chappy heaving everything but freezer appeared in 100% good condition and after 3 hrs it's now turned on & cooling down (for 4 hrs recommended before opening).
The Freezer manual that came with it is a later - revision 7 - than anything online, but still says "This applicance is suitable to be placed in garages" (page 6, line 4).
Four hours on it's an awful lot quieter than the 34y/o one it replaced, and it's definitely chilly in there - just put thermostat in...
Wednesday 5/10: freezer thermometer showing as between -18/-21C so all's good, phew. Had one moment thinking it had turned off as the RED power light isn't that bright, but it was just high light level.
Just waiting now for the paperwork to come through so can register for free 2nd year manufacturer's warranty (and consider extending to 5 years).

amusing how capacity is reported as 197/198/200 litres.
