You seem to spend your days going on to Quorn deals and saying you don't like the taste.
Might I suggest you save your time by not clicking on a deal you have no interest in?

Surely I'm wasting my time if I reply? Not forcing you to reply..
But I was clarifying you were making an observation which had no relation to useful information that might affect peoples decision to buy the item.

I see no need to clarify my comments. You chose to muddy the waters with pseudo-implied food tech knowledge. Don't bother replying, you're wasting my time.

Your response from someone saying it has less calories (good) was to say it's processed. Suggesting this is a bad characteristic. If you want to clarify your original post as meaning a casual observation with no relation to the nutrition or health of Quorn, then that's fine.

Yes, frequently, as admirably demonstrated here.

I'm pretty well educated thanks. My job deals with safe food production at all levels so I do understand what I'm talking about. The link explains at a basic level what chemicals are used to balance pH, denature the original fungi, adjust texture, colour and appearance to increase consumer acceptability.
I never mentioned anything about 'bad', it's you who went all defensive and deflective about what you think.
My original point was regarding how this foodstuff is produced v 100% natural meat and I stand by that, simply because it's factual.

"Chemicals" as in plant food, and minerals which we all need to live.
And exactly which step of that process makes the food less good for you?
"Processed" means nothing. You need to be specific, rather than say "Stuff happened, thus bad".
Using the word "processed" it basically like saying "I have no clue why this is bad, but some stuff happened to it, so probably something bad happened at some point..". It's used by food bloggers who have no clue.
The other reason "processed" is a completely meaningless and pointless word to describe food, is that it assumes everything natural is good for you. Which is obviously not true. Plenty of "unprocessed" things out there that can kill you.
Your enthusiasm for nutrition is admirable, but you really need to read a book and get past the Dunning–Kruger hump and see how complex it actually is.

Do they? I don't - but i don't eat meat or much quorn. But i do find it really, reaaly odd that meat eaters feel the need to repeat the same inane comments every time one of these deals gets posted.
Stop obsessing and go and get some sausage!

It's not annoying, it's just really, really odd those who choose not to eat meat seem to seek that it has the appearance, texture and flavour of meat.

7 Sep 16#38
Seriously? Do you really think this isn't a processed food?
It's cultured in a giant container using a variety of different chemicals. It's then heated, dewatered and centrifuged.
Meat, isn't.

Laboratory created? It grows naturally in the wild.. where it was discovered, and is now extracted.
"Processed" is a made-up word used by people who don't have a clue about nutrition.
If you can name one specific "process" that Quorn undergoes which reduces its nutrition, then by all means share it.
But the original statement holds, it's a fraction the calories, as well as better fat profile, a complete amino acid protein profile, and doesn't have the associations with cancer and heart disease that red meat does.
Do explain yourself then how this laboratory created product is less processed than meat from a cow?
NitrousUK
7 Sep 16#33
Yeah, that's a good analogy. And yeah it would be best to transition on to things totally unlike meat, but I think the trouble is people are raised on meat so become so accustomed to its texture and taste.
Personally I don't eat vegetarian products that remind me too much of meat.

When quorn eating vegetarians take the moral high ground, saying that they take pleasure in the taste meat without harming animals, I wonder what we would think of Garry Glitter or Jimmy Saville if they had merely indulged their fantasies online without harming any real children. I think we would still judge them on their desires not their actions would we not. True vegetarians would gag at the thought of simulated meat.
NitrousUK to boostii
7 Sep 16#30
Why does this need being said on every Quorn deal that comes up. It's "simulated meat" so it makes it easy to transition from a meat diet and reuse existing recipes. Not rocket science.

You're either a vegetarian or your not - the definition is quite simple. You can label Quorn any how you like but at the end of the day it is just an ingredient. It does amaze me the lengths people will go to in an attempt to put their negative opinion across on Quorn.

so it's like e-cigarettes then, to help you transition, still better to just give up.

Is there any Quorn deal you haven't said the words "Tastes like cardboard. I'll get my coat..". I think the thing that annoys me the most is the fact you think "I'll get my coat.." is so funny it deserves being repeated every hour..
It's not funny. It's never been funny.

Can you please just make a separate supermarket thread like the sim / alcohol deals one etc. That way rubberbullets can just keep adding the new supermarket deals each week, and we can check the thread to see the new deals. As its posted by a helper I'm sure you'll be able to keep the thread at the top of the page.

People choose vegetarian/vegan options because they care about animals, just like you care about your cats and dogs, to these people the taste is secondary and going to sleep with no blood on our hands is number 1.

I would tend to agree with him to a degree. Although that said, I've never tried hell so cannot comment, but certain quorn products definitely taste of cardboard..
