Just found this and seems a good price. Its the old model but unlike the new slim model it has the optical output. Also in my opinion it looks better also.Might be last chance to grab one as they are phasing these out for the slim.Includes free next working day delivery.

I'm sorely tempted to bite at this. Though I think I'll hold out and hope for a cheaper one to come along before Christmas. Pity about the Sainsbury's glitch not working out.

You could've at least found one then. And you certainly haven't yet, given that Francis has never seen the new consoles in person, is therefore not reviewing and not able to review the product, he doesn't have any inside information on Sony and so is far more of a YouTube personality than he will ever be an actual reliable source on anything.
Trusting a guy just because he gets lots of hits on YouTube is a very, very silly thing to do and that goes for everyone who thinks that Jim Sterling, Angry Joe and Francis are our sudden saviours.
Oh, and don't call me Jesus. People will find out.
If that's true, and not just fellow Bitter people trying to get back to Smyth's.....

What review guys do you mean exactly? It's true that the Pro will give you enhanced performance, but that's true of all games even without VR (as long as they have a patch if they're older games, or have been given additional code if they're releases from now on).
But the point is around any suggestion (whether you intended or not) that the standard PS4, while capable of running VR, won't give a proper experience. It absolutey will. It was designed to work on all PS4 consoles at a base minimum and all demo units at expos, trade shows etc. have been running on a standard PS4. Even if you didn't mean that, and I'm sure now that you didn't, I think it was worth making the point completely unambiguous for crissy_uk's sake, as she said she was confused.

I didnt mean VR will only work with pro? obviously it will work with standard ps4, but simply VR would benefit from the extra performance, many of the review guys are saying this on youtube

I don't think the rare occasion that might happen justifies putting an optical out on every single new PS4 slim!

28 Sep 161#46
This isn't true. PSVR may get a performance boost in some aspects on the more powerful console but the experience is built for the standard PS4 up. Sony have said this. The Pro does not exist for VR.
If you can afford the Pro then of course get it anyway, but you don't need it for a VR experience.

Someone might have the originial PS4 take their headset/whatever round to someone's house who has a slim and be like fuuuu

No offence to anyone who buys this or the "pro" but they both look like cheap toys you would get in a Christmas cracker. Sony cheaped out on the plastic used. Have an OG PS4 and an Xbox One S and they are both premium looking hardware (especially the One S)

HELP! My kids want the VR for Xmas, They need a PS4 as they only have a PS3, which one should I get to go with the VR? Would it be better to go for the Pro or will anyone give the same performance? I've tried googling it and I'm just getting more confused!x

27 Sep 161#42
you should definitely wait for the PS4 pro if you need it for the VR. From what i've read one of the huge reasons they are bringing it out is for the VR the extra performance will come in handy for it.
It doesnt produce native 4k like they are hinting though, it's more of an upscale, but for the price you wont get native 4k.

Huh?
It generates less heat therefore needs to be cooled less by the fans to reach the same temperature.

Meant to say a standard PS4, although the slim looks good and it does have 5Ghz Wifi that some people might like I still preffer the original version and wouldn't trade it for my beautiful MGS 5 limited edition PS4.

27 Sep 16#38
I don't see what the slim offers over the bog standard c-chassis PS4 so I wouldn't pay any more for it. The Xbox One S is a worthwhile buy for a few extra quid over the original console because of how gross the original was/is. But the original PS4 looks ok, doesn't take up too much space.

27 Sep 16#36
I don't see why this is an issue - who with an original PS4 is going to upgrade to the slim (which has no optical out) when it's practically the same, just smaller, rather than the Pro (which does)?

Good deal, just to note if this is the model which came out last summer then the fan noise and power consumption is much better then the original. You'll know if it was last years because it does not have touch sensitive buttons. Just as good as the slim and much better looking!

Only the console itself (and moreso the old model) without any games for £200 whilst Xbox One Slim deals can be had for £200ish. I know it's two different markets but this feels more for less.

If there's something you want to play right now then get a slim but if you can wait and have the budget then I'd recommend you get the Pro, not because of 4K but simply it will be the best experience at 1080p.
There's also nothing stooping you from just buying the current PS4 and trading it in when the Pro comes out.

Yeah too much choice isnt always the best.I was all for the ps4 pro until i saw it lol it just looks terrible to me and i really wanted it to have a 4K bluray player as im really into films. In the end i went with the Xbox One S deal as i have a ps4 original already that im happy with.

Thats gonna depend what you want from it, if your happy with 1080p gaming and not into the VR thing grab a slim, if you've got a 4k tv or wanna dabble with VR then either wait or buy a slim and sell it on in a few months.

I've been reading and reading and reading as well as watching regarding the new PS4's and can't think of any reason you'd want to get a slightly thinner PS4. The "lower power consumption" is apparently a non-event because the original never reached the maximum power draw in the first place. :smirk:
As for the last chance to get hold of one - incredibly unlikely. Replaced they might be, but it's hardly a challenge getting hold of a PS3 - you're not going to struggle getting hold of one of these.
With no games they still seem more expensive than a bundle with latest releases

I think this is a brill' price - decided to sell my white one for a black one a day prior to Sony announcing the slim - flogged the white one but slim announcement left me confused regarding slim or original. Went with slim purely for fact its the newer of the two so thought give new design a go and thinking of future 2nd hand resale (as soon as Xmas potentially if i decide to get the pro). Got slim + fifa 17 on order with Very (£210 after account credit deal + will sell Fifa, so prob' £180 buy cost) BUT am sorely tempted to buy this original one now. Think original design is better but do not think that will mean re-sale value will hold as well. Still a hot-UK-deal from me. I wonder how cheap a black 1tb C-chassis will get...
