I'm getting £107.16 for the Gold one...

I'm looking for a dual sim phone around this price and getting confused with all the different models

There are a lot of security concerns with Chinese smartphones. I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole. Especially with banking apps.

Just install malware bytes and kaspersky. If there is anything untoward, they will find it.

It is generally recommended that you flash the installed ROM with a clean install of MIUI. MIUI is an open community driven version of Android, and one of the most popular Android ROMs around. If there was baked in hidden spyware, the Internet would be all over it by now..

It's easy to do and takes a few minutes. (well I say easy, you have to be competent enough to follow a few steps. So that rules out some of you. This isn't a device for Apple owners.).

Sure, maybe the Chinese government bakes in some spyware into the hardware, I'm fairly confident the geeks will notice this and it's kinda Tin Foil Hat territory to me. The moment it was discovered China's export market would fall off a cliff.

For what it's worth, I've had mine for 6 months and my bank account hasn't been raided. ymmv ;-)

You seriously trust any (android) phone with banking?

Are you aware how buggy/insecure android has proven? Here's the latest problem: http://www.zdnet.com/article/quadrooter-security-flaws-affect-over-900-million-android-phones/

I have the Redmi 3S and it's great for everyday use. I'd never touch banking on a phone with a bargepole. A patched Win 10 installation or Linux is your best bet for internet banking.

Taxes make these much less desirable. you end up paying the same as you'd pay for a Moto G4, LG G3 or a second hand Nexus 5X.

Just doesn't seem worth it.
wenttoabetterplace to DocRobotnik
8 Sep 16 2 #6
From what I understand, if you go for standard postage then the chances of being hit for taxes etc is v.v.low. It's when you go for DHL etc that you get hit.
davidmajor to DocRobotnik
9 Sep 16 #36
I would argue you still get more bang for buck this way. I'm not sure I'd want a second hand phone with a worn out unchangeable battery. But each to their own.

No Western phones come close in spec for this price but the real winner in the battery.

I can't big up the battery enough. I went from charging my old phone (a Nexus actually!!) twice a day to now charging it every three days. I used to go out and have to switch my phone off because I wanted to save power in case I really needed it. Now I can go out watch a film on the train, take photos, upload them, etc, etc. And still have more than half my battery life left.

I could never go back.

Consumers should be demanding batteries of this size as standard, Xiamoi managed to fit one in...

I have to say it again. The battery life is stunning and I would pay £200 quid for that. (I paid £130 inc tax for my R3).

True.

Then again, it's pretty amazing what can be bought these days for ~£100. The one thing counting against this phone for me is the lack of fast charging. The Redmi 3 Pro does have fast charging though....

So many of these very good speced Chinese phones, I'm just not sure which one to go for. Tempted to go for the ulefone Vienna but Xiaomi is a better known brand.

Might go for this Xiaomi one if it supports band 20 4g UK network.

I have the Ulefone Paris. It's almost good...but, not. Slow to charge, and the Marshmallow update has introduced a wifi connectivity bug. Oh, and the build quality isn't great (white hot spot on the screen).

I rarely hear bad things about Xiaomi - and they seem to provide constant software updates. Cameras seem decent too from what I have seen thus far.

Redmi Pro 3 is looking like the one for me right now....unless anyone has a reason for me to avoid it?

Did you click the link? It's a Snapdragon 625 so quite a bit better and made on 14nm which should give a decent battery boost (Qualcomm claim the chipset uses 35% lesspower), X9 LTE, a 1080P screen, and hopefully an improved camera. Looks good to me.

8 Sep 16 #21
This is a good deal but the redmi 3 and redmi 3 note seems to come in a wide variety of specs. The price difference between them all isn't great. Personally I would have thought the Redmi Note 4 is worth hanging out for.

I've always had iPhones and have been a big fan but for the iPhone 7 to cost £600 is nuts. I've been so impressed with my wife's Google Nexus 5x I'm tempted to give one of these Redmis a go.

You mentioned the Redmi 4 being released soon, I just gave you that link for it's older brother the Redmi note 4 pro (the better and more powerful model up). They say that the camera might be s'hit so I will wait until there a decent review before I will purchase it.
dcx_badass
9 Sep 16 #23
The Redmi Note 4 is mediatek, it's anything but better and possibly more powerful. When a Redmi Note 4 Pro with Qualcomm comes out, then it will be better/faster. But Mediatek? Nah no chance, buggy and barely even get official updates nevermind 3rd party updates.

This is NOT an Xiaomi authorised store, personally I'd not buy from somewhere that lies before you've even paid a penny.

I bought a Redmi 3 Pro from this same seller 3 weeks ago. My phone was just delivered yesterday and it is indeed the global version phone and all in English for the boxset, menus and the phone itself. It's a marvellous phone and the fingerprint sensor works like a charm.

I may agree it might not be "authorized store" but they do sell legit xiaomi products. Unlike banggood or gearbest where they sell the Chinese version.

Tempted by this as I didn't realise there were B20 versions around - I'm with Vodafone so need band 20.

The site looks a little flaky however, and there doesn't appear to be a way to remove the warranty, which is invalid in the UK anyway (says it only works for Russia etc) and bloats the price by £5.61

It's NOT just the iPhone 7 that's £600?.

Both the iPhone 5x and iPhone 6x have been traditionally going for £600-£00+ easily?.

Even the iPhone 4x before it went for similar £figures too?, so .....

Exorbitant prices for iPhones (over the last couple of x-years?), are not exactly 'unheard of', huh?.

So, with all inmind, the current price of this yet forthcoming iPhone 7 shouldn't really be toooooooo surprising for anyone really? (sadly enough ..... )

took these pictures yesterday. Even the box is in English. It says redmi 3 on the front but at the back side it states 32GB storage 3GB ram which is the Pro version. (just to clarify the one I bought is Redmi 3 Pro not the Redmi 3S as OP posted)

only thing that frustrates me it that on the seller page, the warranty cannot be opted out. The warranty seems not applicable in the UK so I've opened a dispute trying to claim the warranty cost back.

whats the difference between this and the note 3i pro? the only slight difference I see is this is a octocore with the 4-4 cpu, whereas the 3i is a hexacore.

http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/official-global-version-xiaomi-redmi-note-3-3i-pro-prime-special-version-smartphone-2499464?

Also are both of these compatible with Cyangenmod? currently its stable build for only the Note 3, not the special editions for global or the pro. I know all these models are snapdragon, but is there anything else that is different on these that might make it none compatible with CM13? I am going to post on the cm forum as well but just wondered if anyone on here knew, and i think quite a few people would be interested to get this phone with cm13 to remove all the MIUI stuff.

I can only comment on the original redmi 3 so this may not be the case.

You have a sim settings block in the settings menu. You then select which sim is default for things such as texts and calls. For each text etc you have the ability to change this though. You then select the sim for data.

Only my thought but I doubt you'll get both running simultaneously for data. I cannot remember the phrase but depending on the antenna inside a phone is whether you can receive calls from both sims at the same time.

Think data is one or the other?

Ok so I ordered this, mainly out of curiosity and due to the fact I would really like a dual sim phone, I currently have 2 phones (work and personal) and I would sometimes like to not cart them both around - the phones I have are an iPhone 7 and an s7 edge, I am trying to come away from contract phones and can sell my s7 edge for roughly the buyout of my contract, the iPhone 7 I have just bought SIM free - now I know the Xiaomi is not a direct competitor to an s7 edge, but I use my s7 as a "work" phone (In truth I just pick up whichever isn't on charge to do tasks that don't involve needing a specific mobile number), I have read the reviews and two things that are important would be battery life and dual sim - the Xiaomi ticks both boxes here, but the camera isn't that good, now as I will be keeping my iPhone I already have 1 phone with a decent camera so I am willing to compromise - are there any other areas that the Xiaomi would let me down for calling, texting, internet, social media etc... The only thing that is also important to me is I use three in touch which is like o2's TuGo but on the three network - I don't use NFC or Google pay as far as I am aware, any help appreciated

Had this arrive this week, less than 2 weeks for delivery. No tax. Phone will be an Xmas gift but have played with it extensively and am impressed. Got an immediate miui update at first boot so rom is official. Fingerprint scanner works superbly and camera isn't too bad either. Don't really play games but sky force reloaded runs as good on the redmi 3s as it does on my m8 and nexus 7 . Don't bother going for the case bundle though , the one received is ill- fitting without cutout for fingerprint scanner. Will contact the seller to see what can be done.

Nah everything should work fine.

You might not be a fan of the miui launcher so I'd recommend either sticking the Google launcher on or your preferred choice such as lightning, nova, action etc.

One thing I have found is xiaomi phones are very aggressive for battery management.

They've been fine with apps such as WhatsApp but occasionally some don't work 100% out of the box.

You need to go into their security app and change what apps are allowed to do.

Example is the muzei wallpaper app, struggles to refresh the wallpaper.

The last one I purchased had inbuilt malware that I could not get rid of. The seller asked me to return it.

If you purchase one, my advice is immediately install and run several different anti virus products, to make sure your phone is OK.

The official global rom does not have malware for xiaomi.

You more than likely had the official Chinese rom which had Google play sideloaded.

This is why I always recommend getting a sealed box and putting the global rom on it yourself.

You wouldn't let a third party put add ons to your PC before receipt. Same thing for phones.

Other Chinese manufacturers I cannot comment on specifically not having had their phones.
