Advertising Standards Authority is investigating No Man's Sky for false advertisement
Enough people complained about the game to the ASA to make this happen.

After the active player count for No Man's Sky dropped below 1,000 players on Steam, it's safe to say that the highly anticipated game had a rather rough release. It appears as though things are getting worse for No Man's Sky, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) is investigating the game after receiving "several complaints."

Even Sony's President believes that No Man's Sky was overpromised by its creator. Throughout all of this, the No Man's Sky developers have been silent - they have yet to comment on claims.

Hello Games and Steam must respond to the ASA, but when they will has not been detailed. If the ASA finds Hello Games and Valve guilty of false advertisement, the items in questions (videos, screenshots etc) will be removed, penalties might even be issued.

Funny thing is this along with the order 1886 were 2 of the most expensive pre-order games for the ps4 and ended up being 2 of the biggest flops.
I think this is a really good price for this if it would of launched at £20-£25 like it should of for being a indie game it would of received a lot less criticism.

I think that Hello Games did genuinely intend to have all these features in the game, but they likely realised they had to scale back their ambitions considerably because of deadlines (especially after the flooding of their office). They would have saved themselves a lot of hassle if they just admitted that they had to leave so much out.

To be fair they said from the start to view it as a single-player experience due to the nature of the game. Though the fact that players couldn't actually see each other when they met (in that vid from the release day) is pretty poor. I'm not sure if that's been fixed or will be fixed in a future patch.

How many people have actually played this? I never bought into the hype in the first place but was definitely intrigued by it's premise (and I love the band who did the soundtrack.) I personally wouldn't buy it still as I feel I've got all I'm gonna get from it, but having spent a few hours playing at a friends it is a really enjoyable game with a great atmosphere. Granted there doesn't seem to be any real purpose and all of the inventory stuff really bores me, but there's so much mystery with the puzzles and stations, as well as all of the random planets/animals that you see. It's perhaps not as diverse as it was made out to be, but still seems to me to be a truly unique experience. Just not sure why there is so much hate for it?

I have no particular 'hatred' (for lack of a better word) against hello games for this (i actually feel bad for the guys - esp given ive walked by their offices a couple of times). But man that game was pretty over hyped for 2 years at every sony/e3 conference. Whether it be Sony or Hello games' fault, their insistence on being vague and somewhat hyperbolic (and arguably misleading) with their messaging was ultimately their undoing. Hard to blame consumers on feeling burned when their entire marketing strategy involved not giving a lot of detail and letting imaginations run wild. On the flip side of this here's a easy way not to get burned as a consumer: stop preordering videogames. Especially those who have been on this site long enough know how fast many games drop in price after launch.

£50 or whatever games cost at release is too much for me to spend suppose when I started buying games at £1.99 on cassette it seems a lot, does look like it was massively hyped, at £15 whats to complain about, costs about that much to see a 2 hour movie, get a 10 hours gameplay and enjoyment and you have your moneys worth. Why anyone buys games at £50 instead of waiting til they cost £25 quid or less is beyond me. Look at FIfa, couple of year old copy costs about £2.

You can't argue with the criticism, but I think we'll look back at this game in 10 years time and judge it as a defining moment in gaming. It will be seen as the starting point of when imagination was overtaken by simulation.
