For people new to this, a brief guide.

Plug in the power & hdmi into a tv. Wait for it to boot. Set up your network either cable or wifi.

There will probably be a button for google play store, search for SPMC (this is kodi for Android)

Open SPMC, there will probably be a first run wizard, setup network. Move along to settings, there go through things, I can't remember exactly, but you can setup number of speakers, calibrate the display, change the date & time by selecting UK, time zone uses Britain?

To add your own content either through as NAS or usb hard drive, go to videos, files, add videos, select the content type ie movies, & the box will scan the internet for artwork etc

Now if you want the dodgy addons like Exodus, Phoenix etc https://seo-michael.co.uk/how-to-install-exodus-for-kodi/

this is a good place for info on setups

There are also complete builds like Ares, that will automatically install loads of different video addons etc

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5mMfd90SQc

You will also finds loads of info by googling, skins etc can be changed to alter the look & feel of Kodi

Thank you op and heat added.
I struggled a while with these boxes but now I reckon I have mastered it.
The box here ticks a lot of boxes, mainly 2gb ram, decent enough processor and the all important lan/Ethernet connection not to mention android 6.
The hardware is good enough.

Where I was going wrong admittedly was I was expecting everything for free.

I recommend pulse ccm build which can be found on the Ares wizard I know this sounds complicated but it really isnt , if you can follow simple instructions there is lots of information online.

I personally pay for 2 services, real debrid and sports mania.
Real debrid is awesome, basically if you are struggling with buffering on premium content for example 1080p and 5.1 or your available sources are not the best, real debrid puts this right by jumping on their servers and allows you to choose far better streams. This works out at £2 per month and put it this way I no longer need netflix whatsoever, what's more your real debrid account can be used on any device sharing the same IP address.
Unbelievable high quality streams if you need any more information search google kodi real debrid.

Sports mania is the other sub.
This is probably the best thing I have subscribed to in years.
You get pretty much all the sports content in wonderful hd , it never ever buffers, if you are a sports fan this is the thing to get for kodi, no more buffering or looking for content its all here in one package.
I won't go into the depths of what you need to do but search google for sports mania kodi.
We opted for 6 months and it was £26 or £4 per month.

This is a real cord cutting possibility for most people and for the mere price of £6 per month in subscription.

I know I've been a bit vague but its all there to follow on the net people and I like to keep the chatter down look what happened to Usenet.

Nobody seems to have asked it, but is this ok for watching hard core pornography free ?

There have been a few comments on slow speed/buffering, but i'm sure the nerds have tweaked this to the Nth degree - even they don't like to be distracted mid-w**k

If anyone is interested, with the latest update (System Version: NEXBOX-A95X-AP6330-6.0.1-201704121026) you can now finally change the 'Amazing Kodi' shortcut to any other app the same way as other icons (by holding 'OK' on it until a popup appears). Also, if you reset the box after this update, it removes the preinstalled Kodi completely and replaces that shortcut with a 'Help' shortcut by default instead. In fact, after resetting on this version it seems to have the bare minimum of apps pre-installed now.

I can use my telly remote to control my android box - you need to enable CEC, and then your TVs remote should work via HDMI

If you connect a mouse to the android box, you should be able to go to settings and get it set up.

Quick update, if anyone is having issues of the box randomly restarting, it is most likely the mains lead. Open it up and check the PCB for any shorts or bridges and just generally give it a clean up and it will probably work for a decent length of time, but the fault does seem to reappear.

However, there is a quick and easy replacement available, it is the same plug and rating as a PSP (original 1000/2000 model) charger. I have actually tried my old original PSP charger and it works fine. So any problems with the mains lead, or if you want a USB lead to power it by or anything, look for PSP chargers.

Just got a message to update the nexbox (December 05 2016)
I can't see what the update does, as I have a splash screen blocking the details. I can just about see "optimization" and "minor bug fixes"

Wondering if anyone has taken the plunge yet. To be clear, this is an update for the android system, not kodi

1 Nov 16 1 #562
Does anyone know what the best way to get a refund from gearbest is if you paid through paypal? i've put in a claim via paypal but i don't know whether its best to keep answering the stupid questions they ask
i.e.
1. Check the audio and video cable (or HDMI cable) between the TV and TV box to see if it correctly connected (yellow line for video);
2. Check the TV signal source to see whether the selection is correct for the TV box, e.g. (HDMI, video 1, video 2, etc);
3. Call the local digital TV service hotline for support.

Or to just escalate it to paypal to determine? of course i've checked the tv source was correct and the hdmi cable.. Theres no power so why would it be those!!! Also Why and who would the "local digital tv service hotline" be anyway

I tried both Confluence skins & the Video Settings where brightness exists on my other Kodi installs is not there. Did you have to switch the mediacore video acceleration off to get the brightness options as stated on the Kodi/Jarvis release notes? I tried it on & off & still no brightness controls. I didn't try rebooting between changing the options though.... maybe that is it. A tad frustrating.

Just a quick thanks to Alice who was able to resolve my enquiry.

They are.

For those who have got the charge, if you wait two weeks it should be returned by the courier. All you need to do at that point is contact the company and say it has never been delivered. Tracking should show returned. If they don't refund you at that point raise a PayPal dispute, non-delivery, you will get the refund then.

Gearbest emailed me and basically told me to do one saying they are covered by their T&Cs for customs tax. They then offered me 50% off my next purchase lol which i refused.

I've opened a dispute with paypal as it was never mentioned during the order that i may incur importation fees. £38 + £10 P&P + £18 importation fees, thats £66 for a deal that i could have got for under £26 if i hadn't missed the initial deal. :disappointed:

I emailed Alice, but so far nothing

nige182
21 Oct 16 1 #539
Right, well in that case, if you don't pay they won't deliver and will return to sender meaning you can then get a refund. I agree £18 is a ripoff but that is due to their stupid handling fee, and if they have quoted that value on the paperwork you cannot argue it away unfortunately.

1. There's an app called sixaxis controller or something similar in the play store. It cost around £1-2 but as far as I know that's the only way. There's a compatibility app with the same name for free to test it first.

3. It's annoying me too. Don't think there's a setting.

Some general questions:

1) How do I get the ps3 pad to connect to the device?

2) How do you close down apps?

3) I cant get the notifications bar at the top of the screen to drop down and stay.

Aside from that seems great so far. Feel like tv settings need to be ameded though..picture quality feels a bit poor at present

Does anyone know how to fully root these boxes? It does not have su installed so is only partially rooted at the moment. Enough to stop BT's TV app working (DRM tests for root) but not enough for Tasker to be able to kill apps. I'd be happier if it wasn't rooted at all so BT worked or if it was fully rooted so Tasker could achieve more automated tasks (Start/Stop Alfred or other camera apps).

Try it on another device, maybe Windows too? Mine worked out of the box after I added batteries. You could try pluging in a regular USB mouse into the box too, that should move the pointer as a test for the port.

I put libreELEC on my box, and after a thorough test I'm pleased to say its loads better than Kodi for android. The interface is a bit sluggish but I'm putting that down to the slowass SD card it's currently running from! Might be a bit snappier if I run it from internal memory or a faster SD card.

Movie playback is flawless! Loads better than it was previously.

Anyone know how to edit the buttons on the remote for Kodi? I've tried using Keymap Editor program but it doesn't seem to work. The annoying blue buttons at the top would be ideal to reprogram as I uninstalled the app relating to them and now they're useless.

Edit: I can reprogram some of the buttons but not those relating to android. Has anyone used KeymapEditor after changing to OpenElec and had any luck?

Yeah I tried for ages and couldn't get it, I've got a t95n with the reset button in there and had no problem, but just could not for the life of me get to it on this box hence the rather long winded way I had to go about it. Probably the needle was too short.

As an FYI, the reset button is in the AV hole, if you have a cocktail stick or a needle you can push it in there and move it around until you stumble across the button click.

Some people are complaining about the choppy video. I have tried a number of different online apps (youtube, hulu, etc) and Plex for movies on the local network and haven't noticed any issues at all.

For Plex, I have set it to 'Direct Play' and 'Direct Stream' and selected the Quality to 'Original' which does no transcoding and outputs superb quality.

For people still waiting for the box, order a wireless keyboard as that's a must. I bought this one and it works fine.

I was having trouble running the DTS 5.1 encoded video using Plex connected through my AV receiver and the video would freeze on start up. Found a solution that works..

In Plex app settings under System menu, enable 'Use Android Media player' and "Direct Play" to "Forced" instead of Auto.

Now the box is able to run all videos without any issues.

Download and unzip the file here...
http://kszaq.libreelec.tv/s905/devel/2016-10-03-devel/

The download win32 disk imager and load the unzipped image onto an sd card.

You then need to put the SD card into your a95x and boot into recovery mode (hold the reset button as you power box on)

Unfortunately I could not find the reset button for the life of me, I think it's in the av input, but anyway if you have trouble finding it then boot into android as normal with the sd card inserted and also put a USB stick in with any zip file on it (just zip a text document on windows and copy to USB). Then go to apps on the a95x, upgrade app, and select the zip you put on the USB stick and choose to install, then as the box restarts pull out the USB stick but leave the sd card in and the box will boot libreelec from the sd card.

Libreelec will boot from sd card every time then as long as sd card is in.

To install to nand just SSH into box with putty (make sure to activate SSH when setting up libreelec on first run), username root password libreelec and type installtointernal and then follow the instructions.

I hope that isn't too hard to follow.

Also sorry I forgot to mention you need to also download this file...

gxl_p212_2g.dtb

From here...

http://kszaq.libreelec.tv/s905/devel/2016-10-03-devel/device_trees/

Rename to dtb.img and after you have written the image to your sd card copy it to the card and choose yes to replace the file on there already.

Playing a variety of things, BluRay remux and 1080p TV shows. The TV show the video went twice as fast as the audio, and the Bluray remux keep stuttering. This was via the Plex for Android app. I did have a quick look at PlexMBC but didn't get it working before I went to bed. Playing things with Kodi was much better, done via NFS shares, but still had a framerate sync issue.

Thats interesting. I'll be giving it a go with LibreELEC later on and seeing how things are, I'm no stranger to tweaking this sort of thing to get it as best as it can be, but "out of the box" things have not been as good as my £15 NowTV with Plex LOL.

Got mine yesterday, so far I'm not too impressed. Playback on Kodi seems a bit choppy compared to my NowTV with Plex, I expect it's some kind of framerate sync problem that so far I've not been able to sort out by fiddling with the settings.

I tried installing Plex from the play store, but it was a complete joke, couldn't get anything to play correctly!

I shall persevere, but so far it's not giving me a warm fuzzy feeling :disappointed:

bobobalde
28 Sep 16 #392
if you load libreelec onto it you can either run it on the emmc so it overwrites android or you can run off an SD card or USB stick and you keep android. You don't have to load kodi on, libreelec and openelec just boot directly into kodi.
winifer
28 Sep 16 #391
You can sideload it by putting the Libreelc onto a usb stick for example. Then telling the box to boot automatically to usb drive. This is what i am planning on doing - at least to start with.
mergleb
28 Sep 16 #390
Thanks for that. So if I put one of those on my a95x it will over-write all the android software on it.
Then I load a Linux version of Kodi on to it?
bobobalde
28 Sep 16 #389
Openelec and libreelec are Linux based os that basically runs kodi clean, ie all your box will do is run kodi and you lose android OS and associated features. Personally I run libreelec as I only use these boxes for videos. I think all s905 and x suffer from the panning skips in some way or another based on the release notes for libreelec.

1nvjoqjm to mergleb
26 Sep 16 #337
Mine says the same. I contacted Yodel and they said they only had the paperwork and the delay was nothing to do with them. So I contacted GearBest and they gave me a pretty generic email:

"...The precise shipping time can also be affected by factors such as customs, remote locations, peak shipping periods, Holidays and Festivals, inclement weather and operational issues impacting the shipping company."

Despatched 9 days ago, 6 days since last tracking. I paid the extra money for tracking which to be honest is pants and a waste of money when they don't update it. I know full well it's supposed to take probably 10 working days, im not being annoyed about that, its the lack of tracking even though i've paid for the service

When I ordered my last box, I got a picture attached to the item I had bought which showed it on the scales with my name and address on it.

At the side was a crate with tons in so It looks like they are sorted out for yodel in advance and shipped in bulk to reduce the cost.
winifer
23 Sep 16 #299
Or they post them in bulk from china to that address(i.e. in a large crate), then they get split up in the uk to the correct locations, so it looks as if our parcels are coming from there. Save the china people from posting multiple packages maybe or perhaps cheaper to do it that way?

Don't think it is down to some UK stock as mine shows a london address and it hasn't come yet, and according to tracking is coming from Hong kong

Can someone explain, why would you use libreelec instead of the original OS? I'm not familiar with it.

From what I understand it runs on less resources, but the box runs smoothly anyway so why would you use this?
spoony100 to murkr
23 Sep 16 #290
As mentioned I switched because I require the refresh rate of the box to change depending on what media I am watching (24Hz for film and 50Hz for PAL). I can not stand watching films that judder as they pan over a scene.

I can also use my cyberlink remote that I have had for years with libreelec, which I can not use on android. That also enables me to have the remote sensor tucked under my TV and the box completely hidden from view.
spoony100
23 Sep 16 1 #289
The one that he tagged as 'almost there'. Not sure which version as I am at work and the box is not!
spoony100
22 Sep 16 #276
Mine turned up yesterday. Installed Libreelec on a microsd card and booted to that. The box does nearly everything my mini PC does with the exception of the spdif not working (hopefully that will be fixed soon).

Reason i didn't use the Android firmware is that kodi on android doesn't support auto refresh rate change.

spoony100
23 Sep 16 #286
I don't think it did (from what I can remember from the audio settings in system), but can't be sure. As soon as I found out that it didn't have auto refresh change I changed to Libreelec. According to the creator of the libreelec s905 version it should support spdif so maybe I need to tweak it a bit.

Still waiting for mine.

I only get 3.5Mbps internet at home so I wasnt going to bother with any form of streaming/Kodi and was going to just legally download stuff from Amazon video using my prime membership to watch when it has finished (a week later!!). However, does anyone know of any other slightly more shady services that allow me to slowly download something to watch later due to my less than ideal streaming speeds or is it back to the PC and bittorrent?

I am thinking more of films/box sets than sports.

nige182 to feckineejit
22 Sep 16 #257
That is actually a good thing, coming by Royal Mail it is unlikely to get caught, and if it is, they will not deliver before the tax is paid. So they instead deliver a slip asking for payment, if you don't pay then after a few days it is returned to sender. I have had that happen once and got a refund as the item was returned. Parcelforce works the same.

Some couriers, eg. TNT deliver the goods and then later invoice you for the taxes they paid on your behalf plus their admin charge so you have no chance to just refuse the delivery instead as you have already had it.

Depends on the apps that you have used.

Try Channel 4, Channel 5, Netflix and others from big broadcasters that don't trust Android to protect their content.

It's been this way for years, hence some devs modding ROM's to produce HDMI cloaking and on the fly unroot options in some firmwares.

Don't buy from Gearbest. I did, it broke after a day and I gave up trying to get a replacement or refund. Even PayPal was thwarted.

They ask for a photo of the fault. Not sure how one is supposed to do that.

I have never, ever had such a bad experience. Even the likes of Banggood are much better. I wouldn't speculate a single quid with Gearbest. Sorry.

Same here. They asked for a photo, which I sent, then they asked for a video of the fault. I asked how would a video of the box not working be any more use than photo's.

Then they came back and said they would send me software updates, I heard nothing so I got back in touch and they said they couldn't send the updates.

Now they've said it's past the 45 day (I think) warranty period and all they will do is give me ten dollars credit. Appalling.

I'm not sure about now TV either, but, I'm not sure why you would want to at the same time, if you get the correct add ons and subs it blows now TV out of the water for content.
The interface is perhaps not as polished as some people would like, but, I prefer the fact you can model the kodi system to exactly the way you want it.

I could be mistaken but from my understanding now TV does not stream 1080 and 5.1 surround, also check out this table for a pack of lies...

On the forum there is no subsection for it and people have questioned if it is a legit Beelink box with no reply from Beelink, my guess is yes and that the MiniMXIII is their equivalent of Nexbox A95X (which is also available in a S905 variant), built cheap with minimal support, hence a single update for the S905 version and no OTA updates working. I wouldn't be surprised if these are all exactly the same board underneath (I mean the matching spec ones, so that linked MXIII and this Nexbox A95X).
louiselouise
13 Sep 16 #176
Ah, is there a newer one? I better shut my mouth then!

Edit: Actually I can see the S905X Beelink is called the Mini MX III II (which is a bit of a confusing name, why not just call it V2 or something?). Seems quite a recent release. Also, it has dual band, unlike the Mini MXIII - apparently the Mini MX (v1) has dual band too.

TL;DR - (Supposed) better build quality, S905 has better performance in benchmarks vs S905X (though newer firmwares may improve things), media playback issues with S905X (again, bugs may have been ironed out). Good software builds of Open Elec & Libre Elec for the Beelink (not sure what the latest is with S905X).

There isn't really a lot of 4K content out there (my Beelink is hard-wired) so it's not really a concern for me - and I have a 1080p telly anyway!

If your box is faulty and was purchased via PayPal then you could open a complaint with them. It depends on when you bought the box of course. Not had any trouble with my touchpad/keyboard "cursor wander" (had a non-illuminated one for a few weeks to test before I gave it to eldest niece, as well as my new lighty-uppy one).

As for me keeping the Beelink, I have more faith in the brand (perhaps misguided, after the debacle with firmware upgrades and confusing forum posts from Beelink) - and I read from early reviews that the S905X plays less media than the S905 (though I could be wrong) - even that the performance may not be as good. (Obviously S905 is on Lollipop and 905X is on Marshmallow).

That kodi.tv thread does go downhill a bit later on (the main bugbear being pre-loaded piracy addons - I always uninstall and put a fresh Kodi from the Play Store anyway) - it's reckoned Beelink still offer the best bang for buck and build quality - and good software builds of openelec and libre elec available.

(wrxtasy, not sure if he/she is a mod, tells others not to mention Beelink again because of this - but is often very defensive/negative about Chinese boxes in general, see my Post #166 on this thread).

The android box then sends the audio wireless over blue-tooth to speakers and video alone over it's own HDMI to connected TV. Correct.
Don't forget in the box as well you will have 16gb probably 8-9gb of usable space, a decent kodi build is around 500-mb-1gb so bear that in mind.

So I would go with the box in your case.

And also don't forget you don't NEED a build either, although it does transform the usual confluence skin and usually all the best add ons are already packaged for you.

A few mates of mine just have the standard kodi, jarvis 16.1 and then they manually add the few add ons they want and stick with the original skin.
h0tdeal
13 Sep 16 #140
And anyone asking about the adult stuff, yes you just need to choose a build with it already packaged or add your own.
This would apply for any box as well or stick as long as you have kodi you can install adult add ons.

Also, you don't NEED One of these boxes for kodi you can install kodi on a laptop and use hdmi out for your tv, just putting that out there...

Yes all kick offs are there for example go to sportsmania.eu and look at the schedule, you get 3 days in advance of listing and more often than not they are on multiple channels in wonderful HD.

I think it's a brilliant sub.

I would advise an ethernet connection for live HD sport though you would be asking a lot for one of these boxes to stream 720/1080 live football over WiFi and expect a perfect stream.

I have 3 2gb m8s boxes and I have just bought another 3 of these new 2gb boxes, my old ones will be sold on "fully loaded" on Gumtree and then replaced with these.
This way I get to keep up with the technology at no extra cost to me.
1 in the living room, 1 in our bedroom 1 in the sons room.
All with pulse ccm build installed.
Real debrid on them all and can be used at the same time.
Sports mania add on is already packaged with pulse so is a bonus, I must say that you can only stream sports mania on one device from one ip at any time. So you couldn't have it on upstairs and downstairs at the same time.
If your box is nowhere near your modem please go for home plugs and put the broadband signal into your house wiring to enable quality streaming.
Our network setup
100meg vm Modem sons bedroom
Into ethernet splitter and homeplug feeds nas, xb1, foxsat and m8s box.
Home plug our bedroom into ethernet splitter feeds our m8s box, foxsat,

Home plug downstairs feeds ethernet extender, WiFi extender foxsat, m8s, smart TV.

That has already been answered, but those cheaper boxes are the lower spec 1GB/8GB model.

Same boat as you... I have kodi on my nexus 9 and mobdro, both are very choppy and I have more luck just searching Twitter for a stream but I am interested to know if this box is better.

Gearbest deliveries usually take 4-6 weeks, delivery by rowing boat. Also, their reviews are very fishy, they don't allow poor reviews so every product is 4.5/5 stars.

Not necessarily.

I'be had a few arrive in less than 10 days.

Plex and KODI are mostly very different. Plex is more of a server, KODI is more about video add ons. Install exodus on kodi and you have access to every tv show and movie on earth, ever, for free. And it's real easy to use once installed.

Live streaming is different so will buffer on most devices unless you change the source.

However yes this is better than a fire stick
hcc27 to feckineejit
12 Sep 16 #51
The FireStick is well known for poor WiFi reception. Make sure you use the HDMI extender and not place the stick behind the TV.
bobobalde to feckineejit
12 Sep 16 2 #58
do you have an advanced settings file setup? that will help with buffering on live streams, but to be honest it's probably the stream getting hammered, lookup sportsmania or some other paid sub, it's worth it, if you search IPTV on here there is a big thread.

12 Sep 16 1 #54
Yes I agree this is far superior to the FireStick in terms of the hardware spec, however you'd be served only SD streams in both Netflix and Amazon Video. If these two are important to you, you might want to stay away.
reddit
12 Sep 16 1 #53
I have one of these.

No netflix 1080p and you will never get it because the correct widevine level is not supported and this will be the same for pretty much every Chinese box bar a couple that will be far more expensive.

Ignore the stock firmware and install this one.

http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-support/amlogic-based-tv-players/s905x/others-aml-s905x/firmware-roms-tools-bx/589497-mod-for-tanix-tx5-pro-minim8sii-and-nexbox-a95x-cooleme-mb1-frankenstein-firmware-wip

It is far better than stock.

There are still issues to resolve such as auto adjust frame rate, which does not work within the firmware or Kodi/SPMC.

SPMC fairs slightly better than Kodi and some video formats are best played through the stock player.

For flashing firmware you will also need a Male A to Male A USB cable.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/1-8M-USB-Data-Cable-Male/dp/B001J0TYCK

Nope. It doesn't matter if the processor has 512 cores and 64GB of RAM, Netflix will run only in 480p unless the device is in their 'appproved' list:

https://devices.netflix.com/en_gb/

I know, it's insane. The old Chromecast can stream Netflix in HD but not this.

Ooof, last time I looked on there the Forums were a bit desolate! And the Chinglish (things not explained at all well from Beelink's posts) put me off. Latest firmware on my Mini MXIII is 3.14.29, MINI MXIII_107L1

End of June's Beelink firmware post is MiniMXIII 107L1_0425 - http://www.bee-link.com/Beelink-231-1-1.html

People are moaning about the OTA firmware update not working so it looks as though Beelink want to leave it to the owner to update manually.

Disappointing (I can see a few complaints about the Wi-Fi, but mine is hardwired) as I bought Beelink thinking they would be more reliable with their updates. The Forums don't inspire confidence. However, it's a £24 box (at least, that's what I paid from ebay months ago) so expectations can't be too high.

Sorry if this is a daft question but is it possible to set this up in a house with no internet, just so that I can plug a usb flash drive into it to watch films on? My current tv doesn't have a usb port but I'm hoping this might be a workaround.

Yes you can, but if you want artwork etc you do need the internet
wpj to Brodel
12 Sep 16 1 #36
You can attach USB sticks, micro-SD cards and even hard drives. The problem with the hard drive, though, may be how it is formatted; if NFTS then you would need to get a programme via the Play Store (which would need an internet connection). Alternatively, there is no problem if you have it in FAT format.

No need for the internet connection with any of these (though you will be stuck with the video playing apps which are bundled with the box).
wpj to Brodel
12 Sep 16 1 #40
PS, Kodi will play all the content as well so this would be better than the bundled video playing programmes.
