Link not working. This must be one of the first laptops with the Kaby Lake i5 cpu?

Just tried updating the link, see if that works. I saw this deal on the dell website and thought the price was good. I was going to wait and see what everyone thought before going ahead
I was sad to see that as well, especially for such a new device

Good price.
Just why the hell would I need DVD drive in 2016?
Just HDMI 1.4 (no [email protected], just @30Hz) they could add thunderbolt.
2.35KG is a bit too much for me as well

If you got stuck in the previous decade I guess it makes sense. But even this not really as I would assume that ULV processors are mainly targeted at mobile devices, and I doubt you rip your DVD's on the go and for at-home use you get get a cheap external DVD

I agree. Dell should be fitting SSD's as standard by now.
Perhaps take out the optical drive and fit an SSD in there?
TheVoice to K1LLER HORNET
2 Oct 16#32
At this price it'd be a 120GB SSD, which is tio small and wouldn't compare well to competing products with 1TB HDDs to the average consumer anyway.
Monkeyfeet13 to K1LLER HORNET
2 Oct 16#39
It's not the space the reason for Dell not fitting them, a PCIe SSD is tiny and takes virtually no space, it's a price point for the customer range that this model is aimed at ( HDD is still cheaper ) and if you offer high end spec's on their low end range there would be no advantage to opting for a better variant.

Didn't realise kaby lake already out. So they still have dvd drive but no usb C. SSD not a big deal as can buy one and fit it in. Looks bulky for my liking though

Wow 7th gen out already, I thought 6th gen was only just released. Luckily it makes little odds, any i5 from 2nd gen onwards is good enough for most people
Agree that should have an SSD, why oh why are they so slow to add SSD's to all computers? they might sell more once the average Joe realises how good a PC becomes once you have an SSD.

Can someone post the link to the 15% off on the Unidays page. I see it on the Dell page but I can't find on Unidays where you can get a code?
Have you clicked on that link? It goes nowhere. It just re-directs me back to the main Unidays student page. If i try searching the page I find nothing on Dell.

1 Oct 16#19
Can you just go to the Dell site and put the code in or do you have to do it through Unidays?
aaron97 to alared
1 Oct 16#21
Get the code from unidays and enter on dell website
Yeah but when I click on that link it just re-direct me to http://www.unidays.com, I have no option to get a Dell code. I have used unidays before so I understand, you get code from the site for the offer you are looking for and then put that code into the website you are buying from. That link for Dell though goes nowhere for me but to the main unidays page.

I've owned a lot of Dell laptops over the years and I've found the ones more likely to get damaged are those with curved corners on the bezel. The curves seem to make them more prone to damage.
I never buy laptops off Dell's main site because of the lack of upgrade options. Wait for customer returns and pick them up even cheaper off Dell Outlet. Bought a fully kitted 6th gen Inspiron 5999 for £350 delivered. I haven't put an SSD in it, but it's still lightning quick in terms of performance and boot up time.
Like others have said, the lack of SSD in this day and age is ridiculous for such a new machine.
This is still a good deal though.

You can pick up 3rd gen portable Dell's with SSD's off Ebay for £150-200 that's good enough for most non-gamers.
Those ex-business laptops are much better builds than these consumer ones.

We're not really going to notice on the grand scheme of things especially with laptop mobile variants.....there might be 50watts difference between a 2nd gen mobile i5 and this 7th gen mobile version which sure will mean more electricity but were talking tiddly amounts here.
Remember to boil kettles with just the water needed will make a far more meaningful saving than an CPU choice.

Intel Core i5-7200U appears to be 10 - 12% faster than the i5 6200U, depending on benchmark, which considering the often criticised performance of the Intel ULV-series CPUs is welcome, in advance of quad-core ULV CPUs that are apparently coming out in 2017.
Of more interest to me at the moment, depending on configuration, the new integrated graphics adapter Intel HD Graphics 620 apparently was up to 30% faster than that of its predecessor, depending on the test, bringing the GPU part closer to the Intel Iris Graphics 540. A lot will depend on the configuration of the laptop using it but that's a pretty big deal. I had been considering a laptop or NUC with an i5 6260U for the Iris 540 graphics. In terms of how much electricity is used, I think the attraction of the newer Skylake and Kabylake ULV CPUs is longer battery life between charges and less thermal throttling in in smaller chassis, rather than how many pennies it saves, though environmentally lower power draw seems a good thing.
Though I would like to see some reviews of the Dell and agree it's a pity they didn't leave out the DVD and replace the HD with an SSD, I can't find a cheaper laptop currently available with an i5 7200, so have some heat!

Looking at the few reviews out there of the i5 7200, where other components in a low priced laptop or an ultra slim laptop are the throttling/bottlekneck, HD 620 still managed to perform, on average, 10% better than HD 520 graphics in the i5 6200
- taken from a notebookreview translated review yesterday from Klaus Hinum, J. Simon Leitner of a new Dell XPS 13 9360 QHD+ i5-7200U. Hopefully there will be a raft of reviews over the next few weeks. If anyone sees i5 6260/Iris 540 models drop in price, please share!

They are usually partner deals for student which are indefinite. Apple/Microsoft have had a similar 10% off partner deal for as long as i can remember. As I said though in an earlier post, the link in the OP for Unidays doesn't seem to be working.

Are you positive that Topcashback is going to work? I am asking because it clearly states below the offer:
"What will stop me getting cashback?
Using a promotional/voucher codes not posted and approved by TopCashback."
Combining it with the: "We don’t have any Dell codes available at the moment." quote, it seems pretty unlikely.

I would say Dell`s own code would be OK but not the Unidays.
As there is only about £3 difference, Dell`s own code is the one to use.
Dell get the final decision whether to pay cashback not TCB and I can`t see them rejecting their own code.
Hardly a reliable guide to be taken seriously.
I followed your link and put in Asus,HP,Lenovo,Acer and they all have crap reviews the same as Dells.

Could this be used for video editing with its "Intel HD Graphics"? I'm only trying to make a few basic YouTube videos; I'm not going to be doing it full time and I'm only intending to process footage at 1920x1080 resolution. My current hardware is over six years old and pretty unpleasant to work with!

My month and a half of dealing with Dell to try and get a replacement or refund on a D.O.A. laptop of which is still unresolved says it all. Their customer service is a joke - don't try it.

When, on the odd occasion, I`ve contacted customer service they have always resolved my query including a home visit six months after purchase to replace the top cover which had a tiny crack on it.
I didn`t pay any extra for the home visit, it should have been collected and sent away.
When you received your DOA laptop you had seven days to reject it and send it back free without giving any reason for doing so.
Once Dell receive it back, they refund your credit card and if they don`t ttake it up with your credit/debit card company.
I have done this once before when I changed my mind.
