Been looking for a GTX 1070 for a few days, I noticed this has just dropped on Amazon... Went low enough for me to bite at this price.
I know it is still a bit expensive for a GPU, but this card will future proof you for 1080p/1440p gaming for several years to come!

Nice card, but going to wait to upgrade - until I have anything better than 1080p
personal experience would shy me away from MSI but others have had ok experiences
thanks for the tip op

Is the experience by any chance customer service/after sale/rma? l`m having a nightmare returning a faulty item to MSI at the moment, short of asking for my blood type, they are throwing obstacle and ridiculous question already answered to discourage the return, so disillusion with the after service l`m thinking of selling my msi branded gpu, and getting another brand, that after sale service don`t blows.

typical - I took the plunge yesterday on this at £379.99
I assume Amazon will refund the difference - any hints on the simplest way to request that? I couldn't see anything obvious on the website
edit - I found it. going through the help section, contact us. It lets you select an order and then they call you. If you go direct to teh order, there's no option to contact them. Anyway, sorted within 5 mins as an "exception" as it had only just been delivered. Can't complain.
Anyway - hot from me obviously as I'd given in and paid at a slightly higher price!

Hi gw42
Last time this happened to me I was told by Amazon they have changed their policies and I would have to return the order and reorder at the lower price... ideal!
They are not what they once were.
Well done m8. Obviously I got the wrong person when I had same issue as you.
Nice to see. Well done Amazon.

The chap I spoke to did emphasise that he could put through the refund because it had been delivered only 30 minutes ago. Maybe if I'd have called tomorrow (and the same person) it would've been a different result.

Great card, but it's too big to fit in my Dell XPS 8700. Need one that's about the size of the Zotac 970 and it looks like the Gigabyte Mini is the only one.

This price @ Overclockers.co.uk too.
Made the jump from GTX 970 last night by ordering this card. I think it will do me for 3 or 4 years @ 1440p until 4k becomes more mainstream.
Am slightly worried about the price going down to below £270 by the end of next year but gotta live for now, eh? Just don't tell my wife.

As above, mine was delivered this morning and the box says made in China. the reports of memory issues with MSI 1070's seemed to be about the Chinese made ones using micron rather than Samsung ram, stop I'm a bit nervous. I'll try and report back if I have any issues

well, fingers crossed, but so far so good. It is Micron memory, but I've not seen any visual issues or other problems that some people are apparently having. In fact, card is doing extremely well, though I may play with the profile as it's a tad noisier than my last card under heavy load.
I'm coming from a 660ti, so it's a huge leap - Elite Dangerous looks amazing with all settings turned up and in 4k. Everything's pretty much full except I disabled AA (I don't see much need on 4k), and it's averaging 50fps+ which is more than I was expecting and very playable for me.
The PCB on this specific card is big though, as it's a good couple of cms wider than my old card, and a bit longer as well. it fits in my case fine, but I'd recommend checking sizes in all 3 dimensions of the card if your case is not a full size desktop case.

At the moment 397 (Based on Amazon.) Though I'n the end I decided to go with the zotac, doubt there is too much difference, but liked this one more.

Im still torn between a 1070 and a 1080. I can afford either....but im not sure I NEED the extra grunt a 1080 brings. I have an Asus ROG 144hz monitor and I believe that a 1070 would be more than enough to get the best out of it. I have a GTX 770 at the moment.....please someone talk some sense into me!

I would be really grateful if someone who has a 1070 could play elder scrolls online if they have it and have afterburner monitor the GPU then tell me what afterburner says is the GPU usage.
Because something strange is happening to me . I see 100% "gpu usage" in the character select screen then it drops to around 50% when I get into the game. This of course has an effect on the frame rate.
I just don't know if this is a problem with my card or not.

Is swapping cards out an easy job? I would have to swap the power supply as well.
thel33ter to ___Josh____
16 Sep 16#28
Yes. Unplug the PC and leave for a bit for everything to discharge, then remove the current power cables for everything. Remove any screws supporting your current card on the left hand side near the video outputs, then there will be a little tab on the PCI-e slot itself on the right hand side, make sure that's unlaced, then simply pull the GPU out. Then install the new power supply and route all the cables. Then stick the new gpu in and plug in. Boot it up and hope everything works.

Just adding this in, do these cards throttle like the 9 series due to heat ?
vulcanproject to sgtbarton
16 Sep 16#33
Ones with good coolers have pretty massive boost clocks that rarely throttle because they don't generate anything like the heat of the 980ti for example. They are mere 150 watt cards, doesn't use more power than a GTX970 despite easily being 50%+ faster...
The Zotac I have used sustains boost core clocks of over 2000mhz and at full load is like 65 degrees tops in the summer. I doubt this is much different.

17 Sep 16#39
That could be it then. The character select screen won't be very demanding, and is probably running with an uncapped frame rate due to some programming laziness, hence it just goes up to as many FPS as the house can manage hence causing the 100% usage. Then once ingame there are other bottlenecks so the GPU doesn't manage that. Try putting vsync on and see if that helps.

I have the card above this, the gaming X 8G. It's the faster version but I imagine this card isn't far behind. The 1070 is a super card and so quiet.the price for this card seems very good. It's a big step up from my 970 4g. The 970 is a fast card but it's new brother is so much faster. At this price it's a steal. Forget about anything other than nvidia if you want fast 4K gaming.

Got this installed last night. Rise of the Tomb Raider was around 100fps, min 59fps at full settings 1080p. Max temp doing this hit 56C with air cooling... awesome card!
Didn't try any higher resolution yet. My card does have the Micron memory, haven't noticed any problems yet so fingers crossed.

So technically if you applied your 20% discount to this product, it would be < £300 thus cheaper than the 1080 you bought? No doubt the 1080 you bought with the discount was a good deal but not really worth bragging about, comparing it to a none discounted item in this case.

If you unplug it, where is it going to discharge to? The CORRECT way is to leave the cable plugged in and turn off at the wall AND the back of the PSU.
