I got the K5 from Amazon in black when it was £95 about 2 weeks ago.
My daughter who is 12 has the Moto G4 and I set it up as I moved her from a Lumia Windows phone to Android.
The G4 is slightly faster in use as Marshmallow but for me I like 1 handed use and the metalised back of the K5 is great.

Resale value, camera quality, constant software updates...
Also, better quality apps, and a v.slick way to upgrade from an old to new iPhone (copy all data/settings at once).
iPhone's are also easily the fastest phone out there right now. In fact, even the older iPhone beats all current Android phones.
So yes, lots to like on the iPhone front....but you have to be prepared to pay a tidy sum to begin with. & I personally could never stomach that initial cost.

Just an update on mine, as I bought mine 1 day before I saw the deal.
I contacted livechat as suggested by Chanchi32 to see if they would do a retro discount.
Chris was helpful but said:
"I am sorry this is not a voucher which has been generated by Tesco and cannot be used against an order. We are aware of vouchers being created and published on Hot Uk Deals however some of the vouchers are true and correct."
I said, it's a code that is being accepted right now on the Tesco Direct ordering page. That I could technically just return mine an re-order. Seems crazy to me. That they would process a new order with free delivery again and process a return, rather than just retro apply the discount.
But he was adamant the discount cannot be applied cos it wasn't generated by Tesco.

I understand exactly what a compass is used for....I'm simply amazed that people cannot map read without one. Your EXACT location is pinpointed. All you need to do is determine a nearby street to triangulate your location - and off you go.
I know, because I have a phone without a compass - yet still use it all the time to navigate around London. It takes me all of about 5 seconds to work out which direction to walk in.
Yes, a compass is useful -- but it isn't necessary.

Yep unfortunately you cannot walk about finding places on Google maps - It doesnt know which way you are facing
You can have maps open and start walking and work it out by seeing which way the dot goes but its not as good as Moto G1 or G2 in this respect
This phone is due to get android Nougat soon. And as it has split screen mode I am hoping I will be able to have a map open together with a compass app.
But there again - google maps on my original Moto G has a compass on the map screen and it rotates the map to show the correct direction.
ryanprice03
16 Sep 16#109
But it will work fine with a running gps app right?
fish323
16 Sep 16#110
The map pinpoints your position but not your orientation. Knowing where you are is one thing knowing where you are going is completely different. Why do you think people use compasses? I was in Bangkok last month and got off the skytrain. The only way I knew which way to walk first time was I was able to orientate the map so it was facing the correct way otherwise I could have walked in completely the wrong direction and then not known till the map caught up with me. Sometimes a compass can mean the difference between life and death. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/08/25/woman-dies-descending-snowdonia-after-using-smartphone-app-to-na/
It is better to keep stum and be thought a fool rather than type and remove all doubt. You have just removed all doubt.
wenttoabetterplace
16 Sep 162#111
Please don't suggest I am the fool in this scenario. YOU are the one that is incapable of determining your location when getting off a Sky train. I mean, do you realise how stupid that sounds?! You already know where the Sky train has come from...you therefore have your map axis. You just needed to engage your brain rather than walking aimlessly in the hope you are going in the right direction.
I say it again - I use my phone in London ALL the time to navigate...and I can count on one hand the amount of times it has taken me more than 5seconds to work out what direction I need to head.
Yes, a compass is a nice feature - but it isn't at all necessary when you already have your exact GPS position pinpointed.
Kids these days.
andrew22
16 Sep 162#112
You mean you would have walked in completely the wrong direction for around 10 metres, until you noticed the little pinpoint on the map was heading the opposite way to which you wanted? At which point you would have turned around and went the correct way.
I understand those extra 20 metres (10 there and 10 back to your original starting point) can be so tiresome for some people

If you're happy wasting time walking up and down roads then good for you, you're obviously never in a hurry for anything, else you'd understand how annoying that can be.
Also it takes more than 5 seconds to recover from driving the wrong way down a dual carriageway.
But feel free to throw your petty insults around. It makes you sound really mature.

I'm sorry, but the lack of a compass has zero bearing on the direction you take when navigating in a car. The compass is literally only of use for the first few seconds of a journey when your GPS module has no movement data. Thereafter, the route is planned, and you follow that route. The error was yours.
Oh, and in reply to the following;
"If you're happy wasting time walking up and down roads then good for you, you're obviously never in a hurry for anything, else you'd understand how annoying that can be."
Absolute nonsense. Whenever I use my phone for nav, it's basically because I'm in a hurry and seeking out shortcuts! But as I say, you only have to know the road you are on and a road near to where you are to get your map axis'. You then have your own compass...! Try it sometime...you'll probably find your understanding of your area improves too

This kid is not a kid. I learnt how to navigate using a paper map and compass. How many 'kids' can do this now? It really isn't as simple as you suggest as you have to work whether you are one side or other of the Skytrain track. In this instance it made a massive difference as to whether I could get to where I was going, so not only was the direction an issue which side of the track I had to be was also. Once I had made a decision I couldn't just cross to get to the other side of the tracks, it was impossible, I would have to go back to square one. You clearly have never been to an Asian city and tried to do this. In London you just have to look up and there are ample street signs, the Sky dishes point SE, with regards to London, no problem, I know the city well enough not to need a compass. I can do the orientation without even thinking. Bangkok with the wife, kids and luggage in toe, I have no idea.

I'm coming from a Samsung Note 3. I think for the money, it's great. Sure there are some little niggles but at this price you'd be hard pressed to find something that is perfect.
I still think going for a used older flagship vs a new mid ranger is the better option. But I needed a phone in a hurry and it's only to tide me over until I get to Hong Kong.
The battery seems great. The Note 3 had a 3200mah battery but I would get around 4 hours screen on with that.
I'm on my first charge and I'm on 3.5 hours with 39% left.

Absolutely. Maps are a massive feature for smart phones. It's probably my third most important app after Chrome and Spotify.
Living in London, if someone has invited you somewhere you've never been before / you have a meeting at a new office, it's really important to be able to know which way you're going and quickly. Having a compass means the phone tells you which way to go immediately. Without the compass you're faffing around trying to figure out which road you're on / which way you're going.
I shan't be buying this phone solely for this reason. It's a mad exclusion and I imagine a lot of people will be incredibly surprised to find such a feature omitted once they power it up.

I did the whole Windows Phone thing for a few years....then left it for Android. I'm now deciding between a Xiaomi Redmi Pro 3 OR a second hand Lumia 950. The latter can be had second hand for less than the Xiaomi - and has a dramatically better camera (arguably the best camera of any smartphone), fast charging, removable battery, Continuum, gorilla glass 4 screen. Over reliability? What? Using a tool that is better for directions than guessing is "over reliability"? That's like me saying people over rely on cars when we could just be using horses.
Smart phones are a fantastic tool for directions, especially when walking around. I'm not buying this phone because there are better tools out there, clearly. Your comment is an odd one.
drummerdickens
16 Sep 16#152
But sometimes you don't know which direction you're facing. The compass makes the process a hell of a lot easier.

So, just to clarify - If I'm not getting on a Sky Train I'll be ok with this phone. Is that about the gist of it?
arpster
16 Sep 16#156
Almost, just to add that if you don't have a compass you'll probably be on the wrong Sky Train anyway.
Top Tip: in the event of your smartphone battery running flat, you can walk around in a circle until someone who knows you passes and points you in the right direction
drummerdickens
16 Sep 16#157
...have you never used a map before? I'm very jealous of your ability to instantly recognise your exact location and the direction of North, South, East and West without the use of a compass but rest assured, not everyone has that ability.
Which is why compasses were invented, just to clarify. To tackle the problem that real people have that I mentioned that you apparently don't have. Otherwise compasses wouldn't exist would they you ****.

LUMIA 640, the hardware is great: battery lasts forever, camera is very good. It does phone things. BUT! its not smart. it doesn't allow google as search standard, only bing, which really is terrible. no decent apps, seriously, not even the basics on windows phone. It lacks all the google functionality of an android (I've only ever had an ipod touch, so can't comment on iphones in comparison). My gf has the G4 and I've had the Moto G original, both were really good value for money. I'd definitely recommend ANY android over windows phone, but the Moto G's have a pure, nexus like android experience.

I agree with much of what you say...though you can change the default search provider to Google. (Just have to go into advanced settings of the browser).
Having used Android for a while, the apps I'd miss are iPlayer Radio and Google Maps. Everything else is pretty well covered. But you're right, it lags so far behind that it's difficult to call it a smartphone OS. BUT, a current flagship for under £100...mighty temping

For those of you devastated by this serious omission by Motorola, you'll be pleased to know you can buy a compass from a well known auction site for about 99p, should be able to give you directions to your nearest toilet, even your own, stick your head down it

I am struggling with this lack of compass thing. I went on a walk today and left google maps open. Everywhere I went when I looked at my phone (an original years old Moto G) the map changed it's orientation to show exactly where I was and what my pint of beer was looking at.
Compass - bahhhh

You are right on the points you mention: LUMIA does do some very good hardware for a great price, and one some handsets you can change default search to google still (not on LUMIA 640, i checked and googled). I think the codes are 'officially' going live on Monday although obviously work now. Check the Direct site on Monday to see if they are on there. If they are I would email the exec office seeking the £25 refund - email address is [email protected]

Again proving you don't know what a compass does. You know our army cadets get given compasses to know which direction they're walking in, right? Do you not understand what north, south, east and west means? Do you need me to explain to you what "direction" is and why knowing which direction you're going is important or is that legitimately too difficult a concept for you to grasp?
Dave_dave69
18 Sep 16#197
Well this compass debate:
I went to town and did some shopping - I said "OK Google navigate home" - the map opened immediately - correctly orientated and the rather nice women's voice correctly directed me to the end of my drive. The map correctly rotated as I drove.
I may try it when out walking tomorrow if it stops raining.

I think the phone uses GPS assist or something, not sure on the correct terminology but it uses the locations of mobile masts. I read something that a magnet is a benefit if you have your mobile signal turned off and you'd still be able to get correct orientation with maps.
So it may not be as big an issue as it seems.
A side note, on the battery, I've been getting 6 to 7 hours on-screen time. Which is a surprise to me. I also did a quick charge with a HTC quick charger I have and it went from 3% to full in 1 hour and 20 mins. My first charge, without quick charge took 3 hours.

Anyone needing a low cost android I point them at this.
Very good price!
Focussing is often all over the place and hunting, even when it a fixed position with little movement in the intended capture area.
Bit of a letdown that no compass gyroscope but everything else is great. No stereo speakers either but still 8/10 for the money
I brought one on the JL deal a few weeks back then my wife tried it out and wanted one (she has iphone and I thought I'd never get her away from apple but when she tried it she loved it) and I've been waiting for another deal so thanks op!!!
http://www.gsmarena.com/lenovo_moto_g4-review-1458.php I always like this site as well
Similar stats, but Moto G4 has a better screen and camera, whereas the K5 has Dolby speakers and a 5' screen.
Have any of you tried the K5? Is it any good? I've got a 1st gen Moto G at the minute.
Heat++.
Posted the clean version
Or the 1gb ram
it has a finger scanner?
will it get andoid nougat?
It sounds like Lenovo don't understand why the Moto G range was so popular, and have turned it into just another budget phone.
Also had £7 worth of Tesco vouchers sitting almost dormant, so £118 paid (1.5% cashback at Quidco to follow).
You're a star.
Is the SINGLE SIM or DUAL SIM Handset??
Thanks in Advance
My daughter who is 12 has the Moto G4 and I set it up as I moved her from a Lumia Windows phone to Android.
The G4 is slightly faster in use as Marshmallow but for me I like 1 handed use and the metalised back of the K5 is great.
I'd say both are as good each other do buy K5 for a 5" or G4 if you want 5.5", most rest of it is too close to call
Black = only Motorola sell the Dual sim version
White = dual sim from all retailers
but i'm used to it now
yes i'd prefer moto g4 at 5 or 5.2 screen but it isnt!
next year g5 will be smaller
Thank you
....
Strange
This is what I got told when I bought a faulty electric toothbrush
Motorola Moto G4 Plus - 5.5" 64GB/4GB, DUAL SIM, Micro SD slot, Fingerprint - £229.65 (student deal using Unidays code) @ Motorola

Best launcher I've used.
& I personally could never stomach that initial cost.
but the 32gb version is £229, 64gb is £264 - check you got the right one, unless i'm missing something!
My iPhone 5s is now in its 3rd year. Because I do not want to upgrade and start a new contract, ive dropped down to sim only which is wonderful. But now, the home button is playing up and doesnt work properly so I have to use the touch one on screen lol.
I'm tempted by this as its sim free and I can just switch over... I mainly use my phone for pictures, internet, Instagram, FB & MapMyRun. Do you think it would hold up well to such extreme stuff?! Haha. I'm not a gamer so that doesnt matter. Thanks!
No harm in trying I guess. Thanks for the heads up.
I even want to look 6.8 inches such as Huawei P8Max unfortunately they are still above.
GBP200,-. People are using it as phablet. Very useful if you are traveling a lot, to look for online info. For this you just need one phone and one number.Otherwise you would have use Phone+Tablet with 4G and two simcard. How much is it going to cost you for that??
I know, because I have a phone without a compass - yet still use it all the time to navigate around London. It takes me all of about 5 seconds to work out which direction to walk in.
Yes, a compass is useful -- but it isn't necessary.
You can have maps open and start walking and work it out by seeing which way the dot goes but its not as good as Moto G1 or G2 in this respect
But there again - google maps on my original Moto G has a compass on the map screen and it rotates the map to show the correct direction.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/08/25/woman-dies-descending-snowdonia-after-using-smartphone-app-to-na/
It is better to keep stum and be thought a fool rather than type and remove all doubt. You have just removed all doubt.
I understand those extra 20 metres (10 there and 10 back to your original starting point) can be so tiresome for some people
I assume this phone is a lot better than my Lumia 735?

Sorry
I think that's proper naff, especially living in London. Totally rules this phone out for me. Absolutely a step backwards.
Also it takes more than 5 seconds to recover from driving the wrong way down a dual carriageway.
But feel free to throw your petty insults around. It makes you sound really mature.
Oh, and in reply to the following;
Try it sometime...you'll probably find your understanding of your area improves too
I still think going for a used older flagship vs a new mid ranger is the better option. But I needed a phone in a hurry and it's only to tide me over until I get to Hong Kong.
The battery seems great. The Note 3 had a 3200mah battery but I would get around 4 hours screen on with that.
I'm on my first charge and I'm on 3.5 hours with 39% left.
Tried a Simply Home candle recently (from poundshop.com!) after reading all the negatives, but it's actually not that bad and does give off some scent.
Edit: Actually, can answer that myself :smiley:http://www.waxaddicts.co.uk/newsblog/4584012731/Bye-Bye-Yankee-Candle-Simply-Home..../10836569
PS. Don't ever get a windows phone, I have one, regret it every single day. Moto G is much better.
What phone do you have by the way?
Smart phones are a fantastic tool for directions, especially when walking around. I'm not buying this phone because there are better tools out there, clearly. Your comment is an odd one.
Top Tip: in the event of your smartphone battery running flat, you can walk around in a circle until someone who knows you passes and points you in the right direction
Which is why compasses were invented, just to clarify. To tackle the problem that real people have that I mentioned that you apparently don't have. Otherwise compasses wouldn't exist would they you ****.
Having used Android for a while, the apps I'd miss are iPlayer Radio and Google Maps. Everything else is pretty well covered. But you're right, it lags so far behind that it's difficult to call it a smartphone OS. BUT, a current flagship for under £100...mighty temping
For those of you devastated by this serious omission by Motorola, you'll be pleased to know you can buy a compass from a well known auction site for about 99p, should be able to give you directions to your nearest toilet, even your own, stick your head down it
Are you just lazy?
Compass - bahhhh
Give me a link to a better phone with compass and NFC and finger print thingy that will run pure android and get an update to Nougat soon.
I will reconsider
You get the SkyTrain to the Waterfront station then head... North. Or West. Maybe.
Only issue is the spend was £149 rather than £150 but would just state it's too much hassle to return the phone and re order and is now oos
http://www.tesco.com/direct/page/money-saving-ecoupons.page
or may appear on the individual product page at the bottom
"Delayed until Monday" according to the text. I hope this isn't a prelude to a "sorry, but..." email :-(
Oh and the phone seems great
EDIT: but the candle smells nice, it looked bigger in the picture
I went to town and did some shopping - I said "OK Google navigate home" - the map opened immediately - correctly orientated and the rather nice women's voice correctly directed me to the end of my drive. The map correctly rotated as I drove.
I may try it when out walking tomorrow if it stops raining.
It does seem daft that they would let me return mine and re-order another. What a waste of time on both parties. They should do what Amazon do and just refund the difference.

- Dual sim
- 32GB ROM
- 3GB RAM
- Fingerprint scanner
- 4,000mAH battery
- Compass
- Snapdragon 650 processor
Hmm. If only Xiaomi stocked these phones in the UK
The only thing I really miss on mine is a notification LED (and I paid full £149).
As for the sim card, this takes a micro-sim but may include an adapter for a nano-sim.
So yeah. I now await my blue facecloth.
ETA - oh no, sorry they cancelled it....
The face towel is ready for me to collect as some way of rubbing salt in the wound though.
'Great news, the item you were interested in is now back in stock'
I ordered a G4 yesterday after seeing it was back in stock and its at my local Tesco today, picking up tomorrow.
Very pleasant experience from my first Customer Services call with Tesco.
Thanks to Chanchi32.
I will definitely get one when it comes back in. Had a bad experience on the way home last night when I found out that I could not listen to the radio on my phone as Microsoft had pulled the FM radio app from my phone. That was the nail in the coffin from me to leave windows phone.
Always make my decisions too late and then the offers are gone
What I've done is use my selfie stick for and wedged it into my bed frame, between the mattress... so now its there for perfect bed time viewing. Brilliant. Haha.

Gutted as it was a lovely phone.
''Sorry, we don't have enough Motorola Moto G4 Black -SIM Free items in stock right now. This item (s) has been added to your save for later basket. You can try to purchase this item again by reducing its quantity.'':disappointed:
IMO - £129 and 2 years JL warranty, still voted hot as it's the phone I have
I am looking for the type which covers both the front and the rear. These are normally made of faux leather.
