I've got 3 sims from life mobile...it was fantastic at first but recently noticed internet drop off, 3G going off and phone cuts out on some calls. Automatically cuts call more than 1hr regardless if you have mins.

Even though this is a bargain, I've had to vote cold.
I've been with Life Mobile for six months and over the last few weeks the call quality and the ability to connect calls has dropped. I can make calls about 50% of the time, even with a good signal.
Data is also now an issue: Previously EE was the fastest network around here, but now the data appears to be throttled a lot. It's very similar to giffgaff's data - most of the time it just doesn't connect, and speed test results are typically 1-3mbps download and 0.6mbps upload.
It's so bad that I've requested my PAC from Life Mobile and will be leaving them next week.

I agree, I have been with them 7 months & people can't get through to me, I can't make calls, Texts don't get in or out. Texts arrive hours late, getting worse & have reported this on more than 3 occasions to Life Mobile with report on calls, Texts Etc but they always say 90% of the time is all they guarantee for call quality , signal, Etc. I am going to leave also but just need to find an equivalent deal with a better signal / Service, Etc.

This probably indicates that i isn't comerciallu viable to run a service lke this at this price point. It sounds to me like they were banling on extra subs to make it profitable but without thr investment to cope with it. I could be completely wrong though.

Its a great deal on paper however I have been on Life Mobile for the past..... 4months? Constant signal drops and even sim card straight out failing to register on phone. This isn't just one off, it happens afew times a day. I am switching back to giffgaff. Life has good customer service too, but yeh.

Just had a live chat with them about 4G, and here is a quote "We have no plans to introduce 4G to all customers , However, after 6 clear payments/ once the 7th bill has generated; you'll have the option to upgrade where 4G will be available"

I've been with them since February was with giffgaff but I found the 3g speeds on life were much faster than 4g with giffgaff with both phones on full signal, can't say that I've experienced any of the problems others are talking about with day data speeds slowing down

Early days for us, two of the uSwitch £5.95 contracts taken out with them, but very happy with the service so far. Called customer services to port my old number and to turn off voicemail, calls answered in seconds by very friendly northern based staff. If it goes bad, which i hope it doesn't, it's a 30 day contract, so no big deal to pac out.

11 Sep 16#44
It will not end they will just keep it going, they have the right to give us 30 days notice of the termination of the account but I think that would just be to much bad press so they will keep us maybe offer a deal at some point to change if you use a lot of the allocation they give you I only use a small amount (30ish text/min a month and 1gb data)

For such amount e.g 1X£5.95 in my opinion this is an abuse of credit check system. This is the problem if they have nothing to loose to do so, they do not really care what impact will it make to people. The conspiracy between CRA and Vendors, Banks and force people to pay for the CRAs.

12 Sep 16#68
no and as I found out recently, if you want to use your phone abroad you need to call/ email / chat with them to activate it, they did mine very quick though.
Our take on life after being with them for 2 months for 3 sims, number porting across was very complicated for 2 of them, one took 6 days to complete, another 4 days and the issue on the second one was down to the last company adding a profile to the phone which didn't remove and 2 people saying it was just a porting delay when it wasn't. The other sim was done very quickly less than 24 hours.
customer service is excellent outside the porting, spoke to them a few times and all was very good, they even gave us a months credit on 2 of the sims for the service we had on the porting.
Coverage, first off, up to 16Gb on Data against 1 to 2GB on Giffgaffs 4G, all sounds good but the actual coverage is terrible, we live in a highly populated area and often don't get signal, went some where on holiday recently and no signal at all and EE say they have 94% of the UK covered, odd that. We are going to give it a another month or so but expect we will be looking elsewhere.

I'm on the £1 a month glitch deal from a while back and i've found them a mixed bag. Customer service is great but i've experienced repeated drop outs in signal and no data but I was with Virgin before who use EE and never had a signal issue so it can't be a network coverage issue and i'm using the same phone. For example sat in my study downstairs I got full H+ with Virgin with Life I get g, to get H+ I need to be upstairs. Just tried a speed test and to my surprise this morning I got 21 Mbps down and 2.89 Mbps up whilst upstairs. Previously i've had 3.2 down and 1.93 up so varies a lot.
For £1 a month i'm staying put for now but if I was paying more i'd leave and go elsewhere as this is the first time i've ever had network issue. Oh and I tried a new sim and it didn't make any difference sadly.

Recommend Life Mobile, was a delay of a few days after giving my pac code but refunded me a couple of quid for the inconvenience, which is a bargain as on the £5.95 package anyway. Network wise I get H or H+ most of the time which is from what I understand in between 3G and 4G. Customer service is great. Never had a call drop by the network as yet (been with them just under 2 months) Heat!

After the initial SIM card which would not work for data, there has been no problem at all for me (West London). Only caveat is that the phone has to be on "roaming" in order for the data connection to work (not that I really use it that much).

dont know if this is relevant here but given they use ee signal same as bt i thought id add it ..Anyway I was reliably informed EE is upgrading the network uk wide (forget the time frame but it wasn't overly long) as they got the contract for the emergency services so have to cover 98% of uk land mass now rather than just the x% of population they used to like to claim they did before.. locally we had poor service in some previously 2g and 3g areas for several weeks or more at a time but only for it to move to 4g lte when normal service resumed. we have both EE and BT contracts here and both have suffered the same at times said area have been bad and turned out to be in process of been upgraded.

who cares if customer service is uk based when you could miss calls, miss text messages and the data speed could be as slow as it was in mobile phones of 2004?
there are so many complaints just in this thread alone.
too much risk to take for saving few quid.
a sim card that is unreliable and hit and miss with receiving calls should be avoided even if it's free.

12 Sep 16#88
I have to admit that the UK based customer service is good, but far from perfect. It's comparable to Three.
They certainly aren't any use when it comes to complaining about not being able to use data or call issues!
Shenx
12 Sep 16#89
Good enough deal but for a few quid more on three you get 4gb of 4G data and unlimited calls.
Edit: just to add my call quality a fair bit of time was poor. Used to think was the phone till I read this now. That people been having issues. Again never seen a full signal almost like its deluded. Anyways on the three deal I posted above now and so far so good. Worth the extra money
Edit 2: Also to add had a bit of a issue when travelling to the Ireland. Had advised them I was going they switched something on in my account but never worked correctly. I could ring people in Ireland but not back to UK. Called again on return to the UK and seems to be OK now. But still a pain having to ring up twice for the same issue.

I too have Life mobile. Great customer service. But for some reason I also get intermittent yet frequent call rop outs. I have replaced the sim card and it still occurs. What is interesting to me is the Dual SIM phone I have rums two EE MVNO operators. LIFE and Virgin. Most of the time These two differ in strength with Virgn mobile always having the better signal. I have currently 3 bars on Virgn and zero on Life. . I have swapped sim card r slots and the symptoms followed the sim card and so was not hardware related. Reported to Life as it would appear the the Life signal strength us somehow restricted.

Interesting reading some of the comments here as seem to be the same situation as me. Signed up about 6 months ago and everything has been mostly fine with the odd call dropout but never had a data problem until recently. if it makes any different, a lot of my friends and I are on EE but we also have this, phone shows data connectivity but data is just dead. Its causing havoc with my mrs as she keeps thinking im ignoring her and im thinking shes not returning calls! She rang 3 times the other day whilst sitting next to me and nothing!
This used to happen when 4g first came out and it was a problem there end with the switching to the 3g to handle phone calls.
Is it over crowding on networks or what?
Just be aware that it isnt just life mobile it seems to be a EE wide thing, this is only noticeable if you use the phone a lot as my friends and I do.
oh and how does the smart cap buffer thing work? is it good for kids?

Living in Brighton - switched from Three last week due to gaps in 3g phone service. So far 2g/3g service coverage had been excellent and data speed perfectly sufficient. If Life Mobile goes bad then it is only a 30 day contract, so could switch to O2 or Vodafone based networks. With support for tethering and 1.5GB data this looks the best deal available. Really good to have UK based support staff who seem highly efficient.

I have 4 accounts with Life on the £5.95 tariff for the last 6 months. All light users.
EE is the only carrier I get a signal with at all in my house so my choice is limited. I need to be able to receive texts to use my online bank account at home and they arrive instantly.
Out and about I have no problems with data (which is pretty much all I use the phone for anyway) It is infinitely better than Giff Gaff who I was with previously

I'm currently in Central London near Oxford Circus.
Speed test 4.48Mbps download & 0.31Mbps Upload.
I find it fine for everyday browsing, small downloads (maybe an app or short video) and general data use (whatsapp, FB etc) – perfectly fine for my use. I use WiFi when at work and at home.
If you are a heavy downloader (stream music or video) then this might not be for you.
Only slight annoyance is that I can no longer use the WiFi on the London Underground since switching from EE.

I am currently using 3 321 sim card, it is really cheap, but I constantly could not make or receive phone calls at office or home.
Tried different phones, same problem. It is likely to do with the 3 321 sim card, not my phone.
Seriously thinking of taking up the deal.
Can I use the free minutes to call 08 numbers?
Virgin's £5 sim, the free minutes can be used to call 08 numbers.
preecey
13 Sep 16#109
You can call 0800 numbers for free, and it won't come out of your allowance. All networks do this now.
The more expensive 084/087 numbers are chargeable on Life though. However you can use Saynoto0870 and WeQ4U to find alternative numbers.
Most companies are now going down the 03 route and calls to 03 numbers come out of your minute allowances.
I emailed them just after posting earlier and they have moved all three of my accounts to the new tariff. That's pretty good service!

I had the same with Three the other day too. It might be something they build in to stop you accidentally having a call lasting a few days. Back in the 90s when I was a Telecom engineer, I knew a guy at MErcury whose job it was to look at issues like that.

What is the best route if I want to change my current provider to this? Is it best to order 1st, then wait till arrives, then activate, then call current provider to get PAC codes? I assume PAC code they provide over the phone immediately and I then call LIFE with them? I can't see my current provider matching this deal, so not to worried about them trying to keep my business.

I was with EE and definitely didn't want to sign up to another long contract, so i ordered my Life SIM, i then rang EE immediately after to request my PAC. They asked if i had already signed up for a new contract, so i said i had and they asked for details, i told them about the Life deal and they said they could "possibly" have matched it, yeah right.
I received my Life SIM which was activated within 48 hours, so i called Life and gave them my PAC, everything was done and dusted in a week.

Nice one! ... Thanks for the info, I'll be sorting ours all tomorrow. Fact that Virgin can only give me 3x rolling SIMs also has swayed me to move, said there was nothing they could do... I mean really!?! I used to have 4 with them many years ago, and then only 3.. I recon I've been with them 10+ years now. Their loss.. Hopefully LIFE let me have more than 3.

Contact your current provider get PAC code first, there is no need to wait. PAC code can be used within 30 days from issue.
I ordered from LIFE mobile yesterday, sim card received today. It will be automatically actviated from 12noon tomorrow.
Once active, call 500 from LIFE mobile give them your PAC.

Life mobile have the best customer service from any mobile operator in this country.
I was with them a few years ago but jumped ship when phones 4 u who used to own them went belly up and I was afraid of losing my number but even in those days you never waited longer than a few rings before speaking to an advisor.
I'm now back with them and yesterday needed to call them and within 4 rings a friendly guy from their Merseyside call centre answered and immediately sorted my enquiry out.

When can I upgrade?
All LIFE Mobile customers are entitled to upgrade from 6 months into their contract term. SIM Only contract customers can upgrade for free from as early as 6 months into their contract term. Handset contract customers can upgrade for free from as early as 60 days from the end of their contract term. Charges may apply to upgrade before the free eligibility period.
Am I eligible to upgrade?
As long as the minimum term of 6 months has been completed and your account payments are up to date, you will most likely be eligible to upgrade your contract. However further restrictions may apply. To discover whether you’re able to upgrade, call our Sales Support Team on 500 from a LIFE Mobile handset or on 0800 0791133 from any alternate line, though please note calls to an 08 number may be chargeable.
2 days from order, sim card automatically activated as promised on the instruction.
And signals so much better and solved my problem.
This year, my 3 321 sim card constantly cannot make any phone call or receive phone call. By constant, I mean all the time unless I restart every time. I tried different handset and all have the same problem. It was a problem caused by 3 network or the 321 sim card. That was the reason I signed for the LIFE mobile.
In the same locations, LIFE mobile sim has no problem at all, tried few hours, can always receive and make calls.

Ok, for those of you who don't know, EE is the sister company for LIFE who offered them a helping hand when they started off a few months ago. They initially used the EE network for calls and data, and over the past few months have negotiated less than 50% EE brandwidth with worsening loss of speed and access to EEs own network.
So this means that LIFE are now expanding their network and transmitters in order to maintain connectivity and service levels. Overall parity with EE will be less than 25% before the end of 2016. This all results in poor speed and call quality for LIFE customers.
And all this is likely to get worse before it gets better, as I cannot see LIFE having enough maker share or profits in order to develop their own network.
I'll get my coat...

I think it will be different cost for 4G, less minutes (I do remember someone has mentioned on HUKD)

Just signed up. I've requested my Virgin PAC code so once i've received the Life Sim and activate it, ring them and give them the PAC code how long does it take for my existing number to become active?
Crossbow

In my experience, within 1-2 days of giving it to them.
Not sure if that automatically ends your contract with Virgin Mobile (VM), but once I got the PAC code from VM, I also gave them my 30-days cancellation notice, because I thought they might continue billing me even when I was not using them any longer.

I've ee bt and now this life sim.. as far as I can tell none is better than another they all use the same transmitters.. life use ee network say so on thier page and bt bought ee.. as I said above I know for a fact ee is currently upgrading thier network because they have the contract for the emergency services this is why your likely reason some people as getting issues lately.. when it settles you'll find it is now a 4g lte area as will 98% of the landmass be by the end of the upgrades.. as that's what is required of them to meet with the contract requirements.

Just switched from Virgin after they told me they were removing the loyalty discount I had on my previous tariff. I gave them the chance to match this deal but they couldn't come close. The switch happened smoothly, I called life as soon as the SIM was activated (which was 2 days after their delivery notification email), gave them my PAC from Virgin and the switch was complete by the next day. Reception and internet seem ok, certainly no worse than what I had with Virgin. Still early days to know whether some of the issues others have reported will affect me but no problems so far and friendly customer service. All ok for now.
9th October a couple of weeks later and all good still. Only one slight niggle, namely that in voicemail options there doesn't seem to be any way to hear the "message envelope" giving time and details of callers who leave a message. I rarely use voicemail and now have it turned off anyway, so other than that, I don't miss Virgin at all. I'd say go for it if you're interested.

Anyone that's passed the 6 month threshold and upgraded to 4G......
What kind of plans/prices were you offered?
Opening post
Smart cap buffer - as low as £1.
Great customer service (UK based).
Only slight negative is lack of an app & 3G data but quick enough for most people.
Also if you are already with Life Mobile, you can just give them a quick call and they will happily move you onto this deal as I just have.

Will try when / If they jump to 4G
not worth it.
You have to call them and they will switch you on the next month.
i though at least calls should be unaffected... but it was.
but the deal itself is great so heat.
reception not so much.
on a side note, customer service is UK based and they are really nice and helpful.
My review so far 5+ out of 5!!!
But haven't had any dealing's with them myself personally?, so no idea ... they WERE formally TalkMobile though? (if that mean's anything to you?).
For £1 a month i'm staying put for now but if I was paying more i'd leave and go elsewhere as this is the first time i've ever had network issue. Oh and I tried a new sim and it didn't make any difference sadly.
UK customer support Is fast and spot on. The signal does drop occasionally but brilliant otherwise. More than happy with life.
All you can eat minutes and text plus 4gb data.... And they have an app, only £9 a month
It's probably on the sim only thread, heat added
there are so many complaints just in this thread alone.
too much risk to take for saving few quid.
a sim card that is unreliable and hit and miss with receiving calls should be avoided even if it's free.
They certainly aren't any use when it comes to complaining about not being able to use data or call issues!
Surprised with some of the comments
I'm not pleased with the "upgraded" service :disappointed:
This used to happen when 4g first came out and it was a problem there end with the switching to the 3g to handle phone calls.
Is it over crowding on networks or what?
Just be aware that it isnt just life mobile it seems to be a EE wide thing, this is only noticeable if you use the phone a lot as my friends and I do.
oh and how does the smart cap buffer thing work? is it good for kids?
EE is the only carrier I get a signal with at all in my house so my choice is limited. I need to be able to receive texts to use my online bank account at home and they arrive instantly.
Out and about I have no problems with data (which is pretty much all I use the phone for anyway) It is infinitely better than Giff Gaff who I was with previously
Tried different phones, same problem. It is likely to do with the 3 321 sim card, not my phone.
Seriously thinking of taking up the deal.
Can I use the free minutes to call 08 numbers?
Virgin's £5 sim, the free minutes can be used to call 08 numbers.
The more expensive 084/087 numbers are chargeable on Life though. However you can use Saynoto0870 and WeQ4U to find alternative numbers.
Most companies are now going down the 03 route and calls to 03 numbers come out of your minute allowances.
That is a very good detailed reply.
tbh never had a problem with them in 7 months I`ve used them, always had signal and data! thumbs up from me!
