You're very welcome - just to be clear to everyone this isn't an issue just because you can't run Linux, this locks you out of being able to reinstall any operating system to your HDD - (I.E no Windows 7 no Windows 8 or Vista, it's either Windows 10 or NOTHING).

Yeah.....no. 720p is still a very common video format for HD video, this is greater than that. It's HD.

I appreciate your question and the answer is yes however when I come back from somewhere I would wash my hands thoroughly as I would if I was eating out too and whenever I get the opportunity I would wash my hands where available. Clean my phone everyweek and don't let anyone use my laptop at uni and very rarely eat something someone has offered me unless its from a packet and yes it is very rude but I tend not to tell them why as it is a habit but I greatly appreciate their offer.

I'd never by a refurbished laptop, you never know where the previous owners hands have been, stats have shown there is more bad bacteria on laptops and phones than the average toilet.

Will GTA 5 work on this? It works perfectly on my 12.5" Toshiba Laptop but that has an i7 processor, 256gb SSD and some intel graphics card. Only trouble is after a while the laptop gets quite hot but luckily I bought a cooling pad which sorts it out.

Avoid Lenovo - terrible quality, you'll be buying a new one in about 8 months.
Terrible, TERRIBLE customer support - I had to get real with a small claims threat a few years ago to make them abide by their obligations under the (then) Sale of Goods Act when something pricey I bought became faulty after a few weeks.
YMMV of course, but I think the reviews on Trust Pilot say it all...
I think this one (was posted previously).. extra money for SSD + full HD + i5 6th gen.

I grabbed one of these as an Argos refurb for £180 a few months back, and I wouldn't pay much more than that.
Not bad for what I paid, but the sound is awful, the mouse buttons are very noisy, there's an uncomfortable amount of flex in the plastic case, and it's a pain to swap the hard drive. I don't mind the screen, but I'm not a FHD fanboy.
Perfectly fine for web browsing, videos and coursera (with headphones), which is what I bought it for, but the price needs to drop £80+ before it's better value than the HP trade-in deals we see each month.

Oh well, probably why I dont own one :smiley:. All the laptops Ive got at home (Asus, Dell, HP) dont have any difficulties swapping out. Tbf even if you still need removing keyboard etc, its not complicated and wont take much time as long as you do it quite soon after you buy the laptop so that you dont have a ton of data to backup.

I think that is the HD bracket that fits the original HD inside the laptop, it's not a replacement bracket for the optical slot or anything to do with the optical slot.
If you look online the only way to swap the HD is to open it up by removing the keyboard, quite long winded but i'm going to do it - an SSD is an amzing way to boost the performance.

Battery life is very poor around 2.5/3 hours by just browsing.
It is heavy and so not very portable as description tries to claim.
You get what you pay for, I got a i3 version with 500GB HDD for £194 last week but personally I wouldn't pay more.

I'm pretty sure on the Ideapad 100 you do have to remove the keyboard and the base to expand the RAM and change the hard drive. Theres no trapdoor.

Yeah laptops built within past 4-5 years are all very easy to upgrade ssd, optical drive and memory. No longer need to fiddle to get the entire front chassis off, take screen apart to get to the hdd. Usually a few screws on back and 4 on hard drive cage and you're golden. Well worth the investment tho I suggest a 500GB ssd unless you intend to remove the optical disc drive to replace with your old hdd that came with the laptop. No biggie, a lot of caddies on ebay for whichever laptop model you own.

yeah you'll be able to upgrade, just guessing here but the benchmark between a i3u and a i5u isn't much difference though. a cheap i3 with an SSD will easily cope with demands of browsing, office, and older games. don't know how much more you'll be getting by paying more for an i5

Does't matter if there's an i7 underneath the hood with 16GB ram. If it doesn't have an SSD, chances are it'll lag IMO. I've seen lower spec machines completely destroy new laptops just because of an SSD.

can you not upgrade the HDD? Another deal posted was for a similar laptop but with the i3, 4GB RAM and a 128GB SSD - you can buy a 128GB SSD for under £40. So even for £340 it's still cheaper and has a better processor and twice the RAM. This is assuming the upgrade is needed - personally I would upgrade it as SSD makes so much difference!

got the i3 version with only 4gig ram only last month from tescodirect...going back to lenovo already as it's just stopped working....feels cheap and plasticky also you can't remove or change the battery....i wouldn't have another one...there are better options out there

Little undecided as seeing the posts on here regarding laptops, I will be using premiere pro and photoshop but don't want to pay over the odds. A lot of people on here have stressed over SSD and FHD, think I've seen every laptop deal for 6months and read something negative!

Not bad spec for the money, but the screen at 1366 x 768 will look rubbish.
If you can, spend the extra cash and get a 1080p laptop.
