'Best Before' and 'Use By' are 2 completely different things. Ive seen things in B&M before past their best before date and been told by the manager they are allowed to sell things 30 days past the best before date. They just reduce the cost a lot, and normally mark them as short dated or whatever.
You only have to look at things like eggs on a supermarket shelf, the best before and use by date is about 2-3 weeks apart. Makes for a bargain for perfectly good food.

we all know the difference between best before, and out of date. these don't say best before? we can assume they may be, but are not 100% sure. I stand by my original comment that it is illegal to sell " out of date" food

To put everyone's mind at ease they are BEST BEFORE END August 2016, for 25p I'd eat last years. Won't bother me!
Having worked in retail you can sell
Out of date items; however it has to state BBE end and not use by, also we used to state that it was past it's best before end date also!

Best before dates are for things like chocolate and other long life products that wont be harmful after that date but might not be as good.
Use by dates are for things like meat products which can be harmful shortly after their dates.
