Not officially in this country. You may find someone selling an imported dual-SIM version on eBay/Gumtree/similar. Or, buy it from a Far East site or even Amazon US (VAT & duty extra may apply).

The dual-SIM version model is EVA-AL10.

it does not matter which one, if you read carefully online reviews you will find out that P9 does NOT support Quick Charge at all- it is embarrassing, taking in account that the previous flagship Huawei P8 supports it!I am very disappointed about it...
Another complaint is a tiny weak mono loudspeaker, otherwise i am happy with mine, bought it as o2 PAYG a month ago.

Not sure why people are saying it is a ‘faff’ to do the o2 refresh deal.

I’ve had a Nokia Lumia 1020 and my dad has had an iPhone 6 via this method and it is as simple as anything.

Get phone.

Ring o2.

Say “I would like to pay my device plan in full”.

Then say “I would like to cancel my airtime plan”.

Takes about 5 minutes total. O2 unlocked my dad’s iPhone for free when he asked them, I didn’t bother as I am on o2 anyway.

They did try to charge my dad for the initial month’s airtime plan which they later acknowledged was an error and gave him a full refund with £10 credit back to his account as a good will gesture.

Same here in the past, but some (a minority) have had problems on these refresh deals over the last several weeks - including lowering their credit score/profile (despite paying off the device plan in full), & hundreds of pounds taken from their bank accounts (not just the 1st month of airtime).

O2 have been ok with refunding, etc but if your account gets overdrawn, then who pays the fees?

I am so, so angry about this. I've been checking the site every day for over a month for this deal. I even had O2 agree to contact me when it was due back in stock. I miss the site for 4hours and it's already gone... Ffs.

You're right, not a massive upgrade.

If you used the quick-charge on the M8 to good effect, then you'll be a little disappointed with this.

It has QC-capability, but only Huawei-branded QCs will work (which most likely will need to be purchased from the Far East), like this one: ebay.co.uk/itm…068
Crossbow
6 Sep 16 #48
You seem to have bought the correct one, but it does mention: "*To ensure fast-charge performance, please use the original 2A data cable." - did you?

What does the printed info on the charger say?

You're right, an official "P9 fast charger" doesn't exist. One needs to use a Huawei-branded 9V/2A fast charger. And the right cable too by the looks of it.

Also, photographic evidence (courtesy the XDA forums):

http://i.imgur.com/Fwvw4Xy.png

The review is wrong. Looks like they just tried the bundled charger, which is not a fast charger.

This is the deal that totally kills the Honor 8 dead in the water. Same phone (in fact slightly better) for £140+ less (I'm talking the £212 'faff-free' PAYG option)

Specs are that similar?

Octo-core vs Quad core
3GB RAM vs 2GB
12MP Camera vs 4MP (albeit with their "ultra pixel" bs)
USB C vs micro USB
Fingerprint scanner
Slightly bigger screen that IS IPS
15 grams lighter
bigger battery
GPU is miles better too
8MP second cam vs 5MP

The P9 does have fast charging, you just need to buy it separately sadly, not to mention the upgrade to Android 7 that the HTC won't get officially. Honestly the only thing I can see similar is the fact thy are both 1080P and 32GB

How can that be if one is going to cancel the airtime contract almost immediately?

PAYG buyers can get 2.1% TCB, which equates to ~£3.71 only (i.e. 2.1% of price before VAT, which is £176.66).
Stopit45
7 Sep 16 #114
Right to clear up the confusion and stop people spouting straight BS.

Fast charging is a "standard". Its just one particular method of charging a phone fast. Quick Charging by Huawei is another "standard". They are 2 separate methods of doing the same thing. So no traditional fast chargers do not work with the P9 due to it using the Hisilicon chips (the P9 does not use snapdragon chips etc) specific method.

You need a Huawei 9V/2A 5V/2A Hisilicon quick charger. Any other fast charger won't work because it's not compatible.

Additionally, those that have mentioned it are completely correct that you need the correct 2amp cable. Yes believe it or not with USB-c cables the type of cable is very important. A lot of the cheap cables on the market will draw too much power as the manufacturers applied the old cable standards and just installed USB-c ports at the end as opposed to using a cable with correct resistance. This is last part about the cables is applicable to all USB-C phones and not just with Huawei. Be careful.

Now about the Pink colour. O2 do in fact send out the grey version but if you angle the device at the light there is a slight pinkish/purplish hue. It is not the pink version so don't worry about it.
Pondlife
7 Sep 16 #115

With the pay as you go deal, is it a case of just not using the sim? Or do you have to cancel anything?
peter72

That would work but not fast charge. You would need the 9v-2a for quick charge 2.0

7 Sep 16 #137
I opted for the PAYG version to avoid any hassle with credit etc. When selecting a PAYG tariff - it doesn't add any more to the £211 or something they charge for the handset. It was unlocked and it actually didn't come with a sim. Probably seperate delivery /shrug. I'm pretty sure you don't need to pay/use the sim when it comes. Hopefully someone else can confirm.

Text messages show in the bar but emails do not.

Do anybody else's show in the drop down notification bar? What app are you using and did you modify any settings.

Thanks in advance

Slightly confused as....managed to order paygo version of phone but on talking to the O2 chat adviser following the order they advised the following:
1) Phone is locked to O2; Will need to insert O2 sim which comes with the phone package
2) Phone can only be unlocked after 12 months of use of the O2 Sim.
The reason for the question was because I have a Tesco SIMO contract (which runs off the O2 network) and it seemed logical that I would just need to pop in the Tesco sim and all should be fine. The O2 Chat person advised that this would not work. (Glad to see that the voda sim worked based on earlier comment which also throws into doubt the comments from the chat adviser)
Would be great if some other folks can also just confirm or clarify that the phone is unlocked.

I dont think many stores will sell one for under £20, they're all rip offs, best place is to go onto amazon although I'm sure thats not what you want as you have to wait. I guess alternatively you could take your phone, box and receipt to your local O2 store and ask them to sort it out?

EDIT: Just found this at Maplins if you have one near: maplin.co.uk/p/b…HAQ

These are hit & miss unfortunately. Depends if the person who returned it, whether they requested an unlock or not & applied it to the phone.

The good news is, if it comes locked, these can usually be easily unlocked for £3-4 by getting an unlock code off eBay - search for 221381719988 (as an example).

P.S. for future reference, if this was a brand new phone on PAYG, it would definitely be locked to O2. But again, can usually be unlocked via eBay.

Thats dumb! If you can get the Maplins one I linked, thats really good for the price and would also support fast charging if you opt to buy a fast charger adaptor (and its on sale). Otherwise and good name brand one would be fine from Amazon like this one: amazon.co.uk/Ank…b+a

Well mine has arrived and it's just downloading all the apps and doing a quick update to improve camera functions.

Mine just arrived, have to say im very impressed as it looks brand new, only issue is a little bit of dirt in the top speaker, but screen and body wise, not a single scratch at all. Screen looks super nice and the finger print scanner is insanely fast, shame my wifi is so **** slow its gonna take nearly 2 hours to download the system update...

To note, maybe I didn't read well enough but I didnt realise it only came with USB cable and no wall adaptor? seems a bit annoying, guess it makes it easier for me to buy a fast charger though.

As for the colour, it definite is titanium grey but I can tell where people are coming from, it does have a slight purple/pink tinge in the sun but I quite like it tbh. Definite upgrade from my Nexus 5 and so glad I didnt get the P9 lite in the end, thanks OP!

I managed to fix part of it. Not sure what helped but I did the following in order. I think t he last step helped.

- forget/rejoin netowor
- cleared cache (power off/hold down volume up+power button)
- factory reset
- restarted router
- changed router bandwidth from 40 to 20
- assigned Static IP
- used 8.8.8.8 DNS
- force closed download manager and google play store
- cleared the data for both
- removed Google account and added it again

Speed has returned to normal and I was able to update the applications. The last 2 steps actually worked all t he previous ones had absolutelly no result at all.

Are the people who have one happy with the screen? My old Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, though lower resolution, seems to have a much better screen. Blacks remain black even when looking at the screen off center... Its difficult to tell where the screen ends and black bezel starts.

On the P9, Blacks are only black if you look head on at the display. Off centre, the screen is a dark grey & its fairly obvious where the screen ends and the black bezel begins!

That's good, but if you choose 'Ultra battery' or similar (from the dropdown shortcuts menu), you can get this down to 0-1% most likely (works on my P8). Can still receive/send calls & texts in this mode, so I use it in the day as well when not going to use the phone for a while.

And it only takes a single touch & a few secs to return from the displayed Ultra battery settings/screen to standard settings & full phone functionality.

This may help some less tech savvy people like me.

I could not get the blue mail app to display messages in the notification bar. So I gave up and started using the default email app. However I could not get it to check for emails when the app was closed and couldn't find the setting. The default setting is to sync"never". I had to click on the menu, then settings then each individual account and there was a sync frequency option.

This may well be basic to most but it is different to my previous lg g3 and after researching on the net this simple solution worked for me.

If it helps somebody then great.

I'm probably being stupid, but I can't find the setting on my p9 to only show contacts in the dialer app that actually have a telephone number.

my contact list is full of people I've only got email details, or [email protected] [email protected] addresses that I've contacted once forever ago.

I'm sure this was a simple setting on all my previous handsets - anyone able to help?
thedon
14 Sep 16 #238
Oh and whilst I'm back in this thread, I DON'T recommend the shaped tempered glass whole screen protectors available on Amazon. They have black coloured strips (or white/ gold / rose strips) along the top and bottom to better blend with the handset looks. It looks great, but seems to affect the light sensor so the phone doesn't auto dim and brighten up to suit the environment.
Also the home / back / switch app buttons at the bottom of the screen are quite a lot less responsive. I've checked to make sure the screen is affixed properly in case I'd fitted it off centre or the shaped part wasn't sitting properly over the curved edge of the screen, but it seems to be a fault with the protector.
Keoje
14 Sep 16 #239
If you're like me and only store contacts on the sim card/phone itself. What you need to do is...

Dialler -> Contacts -> Menu -> Display preferences -> Customise -> Make sure only Phone and SIM are checked -> Double check that your linked Google account(was for me anyway) is unchecked. Expand the dropdown list for Google to make sure nothing else is checked.
thedon
14 Sep 16 #240
Thanks Keoje, but I'm hoping to still keep my contact information synced with Google - rather than download a subset to the phone (I'm too disorganized to try to keep two lists up to date with changes!). When you click Get Deal. Next to the phone image. Click Back to product details. You'll see "Also available on PAYG". It's pot luck to recieve an unlocked handset. Free to unlock if you get this via o2 refresh contract pay off. Otherwise PAYG buyers will need to probably resort to some ebay thing for £3-4. If you're lucky enough to find the p9 in stock again you can ignore the payg tariff. It doesn't add any charge.

After a couple of days with my p9, I really like the phone, its size, weight, camera, battery life and fingerprint scanner are the reason I bought this and are everything I hoped they would be.

my last two handsets were LG G3 and G4 so I'm used to a good camera and the p9 is no disappointment so far.

There are a couple of niggles that I thought I'd ask for help with (or at least warn others who are waiting for the deal to become available again / undecided):

1. the status bar at the top is smaller than I'm used to. displaying the icons for notifications doesn't work well for me - eg a new email icon shows a tiny picture of the sender's face, rather than a Gmail logo.

2. notification led doesn't seem to be controllable - ie, its just a flashing green light, you can't choose different colours for different apps.

3. No double tap to wake the screen. I'm getting used to pressing the power button, but I still wish it was available. (I mostly used this feature when the phone is on my desk rather than in my hand, pressing the power button or fingerprint to switch on is more fiddly)

4. the settings menu is more difficult to navigate than the LG menus I'm used to.

5. I don't seem able to configure badges on the homescreen icons - eg. to show new texts in the Messenger app. I'm guessing this is because there is no app drawer and homescreen icons are normally widgets or shortcuts in other phones?

6. lock screen notifications seem a bit chaotic with default settings - all sorts of things are popping up. but irritatingly they seen to override the do not disturb setting. this means that the screen lights up in the middle of the night with a google now card telling me the weather is changing or something equally useless. I'm sure this is just a another granular setting I haven't found yet....

if anyone knows how to solve these I'd appreciate it.

on the plus side, my daughter was desperate for an Honor 8 handset. it arrived yesterday, and whilst its very beautiful (and slippery!) it seems to be the exact same phone, just costs £150 more than this deal on PAYG.

Great deal, thanks again to the OP and everyone who posts when it comes back into stock.

You can turn off the contact icon in notifications, it's in the settings somewhere, I happen to quite like it.
I stuck Nova Launcher on mine, so have the badge next to an icon when I have a new notification, and also an app drawer.
I completely agree that this is a stunning phone for the money, and I shall say again side by side with my s7 this wins apart from waterproofness.

1. Unfortunately, I don't think these can be changed.

2. Try a third-party app for this: Light Manager - LED SettingsorLight Flow Lite

3. Again, try a third-party app for this: KnockOn. Don't know why they removed this feature to be honest, as my P8 has it - possibly with addition of the Fingerprint scanner, which my P8 doesn't have.

4. Yes, I think you're right there! There is a search function though, which helps a bit.

5. Do what TelicVet suggests for this one.

6. Go into Settings > Notification panel and status bar > Notification Manager & change them in Notification centre - each one will need to be done individually.

Let us know what you tried & what worked, etc as it will help others too.

If you haven't had a chance to do what I suggested earlier, or as a temporary solution until you are able to...

...you can easily & quickly turn off sound from the drop-down shortcut menu every night before going to sleep, then turn it back on in the morning - at least you will not be disturbed by the notification sounds (for the screen lighting up still being a disturbance, I'm sure you know what to do):

Though, a problem for me was it showed 999+ emails on the badge, so I went to gmail, "selected all" primary and social emails and marked as read. just to confirm phone arrived next day (great service by o2). was absolutely flawless, no o2 branding and sim unlocked. handset itself is amazing value for the money and I prefer it to my s7 edge overall - a smoother experience although camera isn't quite as good. throw on a stock theme, pure icons and Google launcher and you're set. thanks OP for posting this. for others looking it seems new stock gets added around midday to 1230 in my experience (that's how I nabbed one)

How can the screen on the P9 match the S7 Edge
TelicVet
22 Sep 16 #296
Easily! I couldn't tell the difference between the P9 and my S7. Apart from £350...
titan131
23 Sep 16 #297
The S7 Edge's screen is pentile and the p9's IPS screen isn't and that means that the S7 Edge needs to be quad HD to be as sharp as a non-pentile Full HD screen.

Whether you prefer AMOLED or IPS is user preference.

Some reviewers have said that the IPS quad HD screen on the HTC 10 (non-pentile) isn't any better than the FHD screen on the P9. In fact, one said he prefered the screen on the P9 because of colours and viewing angles. So quad HD makes sense on the S7 Edge because it uses a pentile subpixel arrangment but not on the HTC 10 or the P9 that are both non-pentile.

much smoother performance - s7 edge had the usual Samsung lag despite specs. looks and feels better (to me). easier to get close to stock experience - even using good lock etc there are still aspects of touch wiz that are annoying - like the emoticons - p9 uses stock. price (obviously).

As recommended elsewhere, I've just put a screenknight film protector (ebay) instead of a tempered glass one and it seems pretty good.

It'll take a bit of getting used to the slight drag / plasticky feel of the screen, but it's gone on much better than I remember film protectors working. This one is applied with a bit of soapy water which worried me, but all seems OK, no bubbles in the film, no lifting up at the edges, and phone internals not water damaged!

I tried two glass ones - the first was full screen / 2d and affected the light meter (so auto dimming/brightness didnt work) and buttons at bottom of screen less responsive, second one was awful because it didnt stick around 2 mm at edges and top and bottom were 5 - 8mm in places not sticking.http://i65.tinypic.com/k20lxj.jpg

Quick Question about the auto brightness,on my Sony, I used to set the slider to a value which I'm happy with and then tick the Auto tick box. The phone would then adjust brightness up or down. On this phone, it adjusts it up quite quickly... but when I go to a darker area it does not seem to adjust it down as quickly... takes ages and the screen during this time seems too bright so I then move the slider back manually to where I like it!

Anyone else experiencing this?

NOT GOOD AT ALL!

thedon
4 Oct 16 #336
Yep I just put washing up liquid in a bowl with hot water ready to wash dishes, and used it for the phone whilst the water was clean.

the screen protector is ok, but I'm still not liking the rubbery feel - I thought I'd be used to it by now.
Also there are slight ripples which I can't see or feel with the screen on and in use (I use a swipe keyboard so expect to notice any bumps etc). but if I tilt the phone at the right angle to the light, with screen off, I can see little ripples. it's not a problem, but again less desirable than a tempered glass protector would be.

You should definately be able to get usb-c cable free, if you didn't get one as it says it should come with one on their website.

"Looking for your next phone? Check out our second-hand, Like New phones.

We put every second-hand phone through our five point check and sort them into our grading system - Perfect, Almost Perfect and Perfectly Fine.

You'll get a USB charger and sim pin (for iPhones), you just need to take care of things like a headset or plug. If you change your mind, you'll have 14 days to return it just like a new phone."

Shame on O2. I think they should supply the charger as well as the lead.

Picked mine up today - bought on PAYG and in my case it was network locked to O2 - luck of the draw I guess. Unlocked using dc-unlocker mentioned here: forum.xda-developers.com/p9/…287 - there may be other ways but I tend to trust XDA threads more than some other stuff I google.

Once I realised I had to change "huawei modems" to "huawei phones" in the PC app it autodetected fine and the unlock went without a hitch. Didn't bother to unlock the bootloader so far but should work for that too apparently.

I used this: dc-unlocker.com/hua…ide - requires you to plug the phone into a computer and so you may need to install the drivers for it. Once I followed the instructions carefully enough (I didn't notice at first that you have to change from Huawei modems to Huawei phones, for example, and for some reason it wouldn't always "stick" on manufacture mode) it recognised the phone fine, and once I was sure it recognised it I bought the 4 credits for 4 EUR and the unlock itself took 2 seconds.

There have been reports where cheap USB-C adapters have crippled the battery and if the batteries are not removable then you are stuffed.

Has anyone had an update released yet on their P9? Just wondering if mine has a problem receiving them.

Still on b166, and after looking on XDA it seems there's been numerous updates since then.

Is it stable and do you have to do a reset?
davidsr
26 Nov 16 #416
From scanning the thread it seems stable, and I can't imagine it's far from a proper release. I don't think you need to do a reset, looks like it's just a normal OTA update.
octopus
26 Nov 16 #417
Have you installed it?
davidsr
26 Nov 16 #418
Not yet, you have to download a Huawei app to join the beta program. I've applied and just waiting for Huawei to approve it,app says it takes 2 weeks.

I got the B182 update today, after that I was able to download B322-log which is the Android N beta. Seems to be working well so far but at work so not had chance to put it through it's paces.

I love my P9 even though it's a bit quirky at times. I've got one really annoying problem with the Gmail app - anyone else find it sometimes opens as if normal, but shows no email in any folder?

it happens every few weeks on mine, and the only fix seems to be to stop the app using the android Settings / Apps controls, then reopen Gmail as normal.

I've tried uninstalling all updates, but it just seems to keep happening.

I guess I'll have to reset the whole phone at some point to see if that fixes it, but rebuilding my 2 factor authentication app and online banking tokens etc is just to tedious to do unless I absolutely have to.

posting this in case anyone else has suffered and solved the same problem?

Any clue as to when Non-Beta users are likely to get it? I presume you have a UK model, What Network are you with and is your phone unlocked?

When will O2/Huawei UK going to release Android Version 7?

Other P9 users around the world have already got their updates OTA.... In the UK Voda have released it... So Why are we still waiting?

At this rate, the next version will be out before we get it!
octopus
13 Feb 17 #445
Looks like you have already posted on the O2 Community thread

Based on my past experience O2 will be the last of them as they are extremely slow with Android updates (Three are the fastest).

Apparently those who bought from Three Mobile have started to get the Android v7 update OTA.

I chatted with a rep from HUAWEI UK online. They told me that the update of the Unbranded P9 has been released in the UK. Apparently for us, we wont get it until O2 decide to release it! :disappointed:
octopus
16 Mar 17 #450
They will delay it deliberately so that customers can buy new phones from them. It's just a sales tactic.
tmohammad

Bought a P6 from them on a similar deal a few years ago & updated it myself manually from day1 - no problems.

I'd suggest doing the same, or if not for whatever reasons, at least keep pestering them via email & on their forums.

Repeatedly moaning about it on here without doing anything else won't get you'll anywhere, will it?!

Thanks for this, I'm in the middle of it now, however I'm getting data error when unzipping the update file in the final step. I'm just redownloading incase there was some error the first time around.
TelicVet
20 Apr 17 #465
Do I need to update to every version from B182 THEN to B360 THEN to B361? Or can I skip straight to B378?
Thanks

Update: Yeah looks like you do
Update 2: I'm upto B378 but the penultimate update on the last link isn't working. Installs the update to about 20%, then throws up an error.
octopus
20 Apr 17 #466
Download the files again and make sure you clear dload folder before applying the second file. It worked first time for me.

If you are still stuck on the last upgrade then post in the XDA forum and someone should be able to help.
tmohammad
20 Apr 17 #467
I dont understand about the firmware update process... If its been produced by HUAWEI then why are the holding it back as an OTA update?

Why are they forcing people to tinker manually with the firmware as it could brick the phone if something goes wrong.

It must have been released as people are able to update manually... So why hold it back from everyone else who would like to just update OTA.
octopus
20 Apr 17 #468
It's not HUAWEI but the network provider that is holding up the update. You can flash manually which will void warranty.
TelicVet
20 Apr 17 #469
I think I've sorted it, found a rogue dload folder on my internal memory so deleted that and now I've completed all the steps successfully.

Just wondering if you did get this phone 'to try' as you said? If so, what's your verdict on it? I'm in desperate need of a new phone but so confused with everyone's comments. I know its a while back, if you did get one you've had time to mess around with it to give your (hopefully honest) opinion oO ..
TelicVet
21 Apr 17 #472
I've got to say I LOVE this phone. It shone compared to my S7, so much so that's been in the drawer for 6 months because this out-performed it. I will never pay £100's for a top brand phone.
If you can find one at a decent price, don't hesitate, buy this, it's the best phone you could find for the money, and should cost more!
octopus
21 Apr 17 #473
Great phone my only gripe would be the huge top and bottom bezels which make it physically a bigger phone than it actually is. I would prefer to have minimal bezels, hopefully P11 next year will undergo a design change.

Thank you so much for your guide.

I have followed the guide and just wondered if the last part has updated fully as the files were large but the final update took only a few seconds. It said update success, so guess it's fine. I am on B383

Also now i have updated using all these roms am i now free of o2 delaying updates on the future?

Once again thanks for your help!
octopus
25 Apr 17 #477
You won't get any OTA updates in the future might need to check XDA forum thread once in a while and flash manually if there is a new version.

Some good news guys about a Nougat update for O2's P9...

Another 1-2 weeks, O2 are finally releasing their own - from Kris_K at the O2 forums: community.o2.co.uk/t5/…/12

"I've got some good news from our device team, folks!

We've now approved the Nougat update for the Huawei P9 and P9 Lite and have sent this back to Huawei for schedule/release - typically this happens within 1-2 weeks, but sometimes sooner/later, so keep your eyes peeled and you'll hopefully have this soon.

P9 Plus customers, no new updates to share just yet - we're awaiting the new software to begin testing but once we've more details to share, we'll let you know."

On the next page, cornetuk says:

"Yay! Update is now available via OTA. I'll go for it tonight [that's tonight]."
