The element in my current halogen oven ghosted. It's non-replaceable so I've been trying to find a deal on a new one. During my search I came across this on eBay.
It's quite a basic model, removable lid (which I prefer) and clockwork timer. Accessories are just the tongs and high & low racks.
I have ordered two, one to use now and the other as a backup. I was struggling to find something under £30 so this is great (especially as it includes postage). When it comes I just have to swap lids and away I go again.
The seller has over 5,000 feedback so no worries on that score. The only trick I may have missed is taking out eBay's 3 yr warranty for £8.49 from SquareTrade which seems to cover everything from day 46. Anybody have any experience with the SquareTrade warranty?

Its good price so voted hot. But I went for name brand and bought the Andrew james for £38 in May last year. You can replace the bulbs easily at £12 each . Plus you get lots more accessories & ring extender & cook book. Still going strong on first bulb and i use it every day. Ive heard the cheap models dont last long and it seems a waste buying the whole thing again when you just need a new bulb.

Agreed. I might not have gone for this if I didn't already have all the normal accessories at least twice over :smiley: (Best loot I've come across so far comes with the VonShef 12 LTR Premium Halogen Oven which even included an oven glove.)

It's a small cooker. You don't have to wait half an hour for it to heat up like a big oven so yeah it saves on electric costs in that respect. And it's easier to clean than a standard oven saving you both time and money. If you have a large family can be tricky to cook everything at same time though as its smaller :smiley:

Cracking machines i use mine every day ,great for everyday use .still haven't attempted a chicken yet i paid £21 from Costco 18 months ago and still rocking .probably worth paying a bit more to get the accessories & ring extender

I've had mine 15 years now, looks worse for wear but still works normally. I paid £30 from tjhughes and its used everyday :smiley:

Mother-in-law bought me one of these so thought it was going to be crap - was actually very pleasantly surprised!
Especially handy when cooking roasts with all the trimmings as one oven isn't big enough. I cook the chicken in here and it comes out much nicer than my normal oven - chicken is juicy whilst the skin is crispy! Yum!
Can't comment on this specific model but that's my experience with halogen ovens in general

I took out a SquareDeal policy for a TV.
After 3 years I had an issue with one of the HDMI sockets.
Got a full refund & they took the TV away within 3 days.
I was staggered by the ease & speed at which they operated

Thanks for the info. Gollywood. I barely even notice the SquareDeal option anymore but I shall give it serious consideration in future. Had I known I would deffo have taken it out on my new (2nd spare) oven :smiley:

Voted cold as does not include the extender ring to give the extra capacity needed to cook a chicken or small turkey. The ring would cost at least £5 extra. Low powered at 1300W - most are 1400W. In general, halogen ovens are very efficient as you are heating a smaller area using both convection and radiant heat (grilling) and the cooking times, as well as the power, can often be reduced compared with a conventional oven by up to 40%. I have had no trouble with bulbs in my two ovens.

I might not have voted hot but at this price I can't say I would have voted cold. I agree its not as powerful as some but I rarely cook on full power anyway. The extender ring is indispensable in certain situations. My main use for them is to keep the top of the food away from the heat source but you can normally cope by using a lower rack or turning one upside down. I just went into my box room to see how many spare rings I have and I counted 3 (plus the one I use). Unfortunately one of the 3 was from a spare oven that I had forgotten about (because I thought I had given it away) :disappointed:

Hubby won one in raffle years ago, having kitchen replaced at mo so dug it out back of garage. Never been so impressed! Everything that goes in normal oven cooks in it, lower the temperature and it's a fraction of cost to run. Perfect for camper van when you have electric hook up.

These are excellent devices. Use ours every night to cook something, wedges, burgers, sausages, chicken. Ultra reliable as well for the initial cost. Never had a bulb blow, it's usually the fan/motor failing from getting clogged up but I've not had one fail inside 3 years.
Family of four and we get by on a single induction hob, halogen oven and an electric pressure cooker ( equivalent to the instant pot pro) or whatever it's called, thirty quid from Aldi.
These are all you need these days, our main cooker sits there gathering dust.

£24.79 for one with the accessories and ring to make 17litres.
If you haven't already got an extender ring then this might have been my recommended buy especially as my original item has now gone up to £22.99 effectively making the ring an extra £1.80 (the cheapest ring on its own is a fiver). Mind you I think it is a bit cheeky of the seller to describe it as a 17 litre oven as it's only 12 without using the extender ring.
For VFM I have to give it to the VonShef oven I mentioned earlier as it is also available on eBay for £28 all-in but has 5 more accessories (6 if you include the extender ring) plus a cookbook. The main advantage however is a free 2 year warranty which could save you the cost of a replacement bulb if (if it's covered).

My experience of SQUARE TRADE is that it appears to be administered by a network of homeworkers, maybe a franchise type of organization, not a company. Be aware that any warranty on halogen cookers, included or as an extra purchase may exclude the replacement of the element (halogen bulb). As the halogen bulb might not be replaceable in cheaper models, that would mean they would be only useful as spares, when the bulb expires. The more expensive digital timer models, usually over £50, have hinged lids, so are safer. An advantage is the replaceable bulbs and might include an extra bulb and longer warranty.
