complaint to groupon about maxtor drive being sent they have credited my groupon account with the £15 credit.

I managed a £40 credit after evidencing apparent price differences between the Samsung and MAxtor variants and perusing it through the resolver website. Turns out I hadn't bought through PayPal. Yet to see whether tcb pays out, but a potential £39.50 for 5TB ain't that bad I s'pose!

My 6TB just arrived and its deffo a Samsung D3 Station  No update on order status on Groupon, just turned up. Are the people that are getting the Maxtors ordering the 5TB? The one thats now showing out of stock?

From the reviews of each I read (plus what adnanasif has said), the Samsung version has a larger 64mb cache and spins at 7200rpm - it is a seagate baracuda drive with fast (>100MB/s) read write speeds. In stark contrast, the Maxtor drive which is cheaper on Amazon) isn't. Much smaller 16mb cache and spin speed (<6000rpm) resulting is poor reviews when it comes to speed. If Groupon advertised a Maxtor drive and send a Maxtor drive, that would be business as usual. They can't be allowed to sell Samsung and ship Maxtor, that's like selling a Porsche and supplying a VW. No reply from Groupon yet, I'm launching a PayPal complaint in 24 hours. Might get to keep the drive and get my money back..... now that would teach Groupon not to lie and cheat and con the general public.... especially if we all did it!
Update - Maxtor brand has a Seagate Archive drive inside it. Shingled Magnetic Recording, which is h0r$e $h!+.

After googling looks like the samsung and maxtor branded drives are in identical cases. Come from same factory and are identical at a guess.

They have supplied a Maxtor product to me. Nothing on the original webpage to suggest anything but a Samsung drive was up for sale. If I wanted a hard drive and they sent me a Cadbury's Cream Egg, I'd be more p!$$ed, but I'm pursuing them through PayPal. I refuse to deal with charletons.
From what I've read, Maxtor drives have 32MB cache and 5400 spin speeds, whilst Samsung branded ones spin at 7200
£8.18 tbc still pending though.

Got mine today, now testing it but seems OK at the moment, gets up to 50c in the enclosure so got a fan on it!
I only received £8.80 tcb, it I think tracked me as an existing user even though I used a new groupon account, but I have had tcb from groupon before so that's maybe it.

I did, although the invoice doesn't match the PayPal charge. Actual charge is for the lower amount (hurray!) and invoice is for the £162. Weird, but relieved that I didn't lose the £40

Yeah I can see they are doing it now, I guess there has been a limit all along?
I think the price quoted in this post includes the cashback from tcb which some people frown on as "cashback isn't guaranteed" so most people write the price sans cashback.
I didn't get an error when trying to check out and did it a few hrs ago, I got the 5TB (about £82 with tcb) as its basically £40 extra for 1TB more with the 6TB. What does the error say?

I'm getting £132.47 total, is your price of 119.99 + 2.49 including the topcashback? Or have they capped the code now to £30?
Turret to Zek
28 Sep 16#11
The code shows as being capped at £30 max discount, yeah.
Anyone else getting an error when trying to check out? I just phoned up and got someone read a script telling me they're having a problem where they can't view account details, so can't offer any support.

almost certainly going to be 3.5" drive inside; whether it's got a SATA interface, and whether the caddy can be dismantled, I have no idea.
