These are a bargain at full price. If you use it to replace a Bluetooth setup, it will probably pay for itself and sound better too.

Spotify etc, any desktop tab in Chrome (e.g YouTube), Soundcast on Mac for stored audio.

mate buy one, these things are the nutts I've bought 4 so far you can play pretty much all apps sound through them using the android operating systems own Chromecast button if an app doesn't have the button... they're so cool.
Would this work in the car connected to AUX? connect to Wifi hotspot from the phone and steam music.. if so.. would it use my data if the audio is stored on the device and not steamed.

If it's stored locally and the music is only going over your lan it should not use data.
The music app itself may use data to query song info though

You can mirror your entire device to it as well can't you? So technically you can use any app on it. My interest is using it for YouTube on my phone or tablet, which I don't think is directly supported for CA?

Google are doing a big launch of their new products next week, including a 4k Chromecast. There's no mention of the audio one but might be worth holding off for the moment.

Could this be used in a bathroom environment? Thinking of putting something in. Currently have sonos in the house but don't want to goto that extent!

So long as you can power it via USB (and keep it away from the water!) then I don't see why not!
Thanks OP, ordered 1. I really want a Sonos setup, but definitely can't afford it. I've got a set of speakers at home with AUX in and the Tesco deal made me do some research. Turns out that this should do as a poor man's Sonos, so I've ordered one to test it out after I missed out on the Tesco deal.

I think it's the smart man's Sonos... and at <10% of the price. The nearest Sonos equivalent is the £279 Connect unit.

I think it gives you more flexibility with what speakers you can get. Hopefully it will be good and I'll get some more chromecasts and speakers :smiley:

No charging. Powered by mains adaptor connected through micro USB. You could use a power bank if you need to use away from socket.

Does it sound noticeably better over optical? Been using it with the 3.5 jack. I have a mid range amp so I don't know if the DAC will be better or worse than the DAC in the Chromecast.

Use Plex as well with CC audio as well as CC for the tv, multi-room with the audio works brilliantly......
Both my audio and video CCs work fantastically with "proper" casting but with the cast screen or when casting youtube to the audio CC the video/sound tend to break up and stutter a bit, but I suspect thats my 5mbps internet.....
Lots and lots of sites now support it including documentary sites and "ahem" some "gentlemens" sites :wink:
And for those on capped internet it can ( as mentioned above) play locally stored music ,I use plex, IIRC it uses a smidge of data to make the initial connection then nothing.............:smiley:

Does anyone else get a significant lag of the audio after the video if casting from a chrome tab. I wanted to use it to cast the sound from movies to my hifi whilst outputting the video to my projector. But the lag makes it unusable in this context :disappointed:

When the spiel states "plugs into your speakers" I presume they mean plugs into the Aux input of your amp?

Yes you can so that too. I've got 5 of these around the house. Living room through the av amp, the rest through active speakers.
With various multiroom settings it's a cool little set up for a fraction of what Sonos in 5 rooms would cost
