When I was a kid we'd have one of these and squirt red sauce all over it. The cold sauce would congeal all the lard in the casing. And it really does taste like dog/cat food. I've eaten plenty of both.

We were poor but my Mother never fed us that,we were nearly sick forcing ourselves to eat it so as to not look rude for leaving it :disappointed:
