I'd like to see a lot more of these mini designs these 3 fans on a gpu crap is way over the top and unnecessary , all flash no substance, these power efficient chips don't need all that, two fans is plenty but 1 with a good heatsink will do perfectly fine aka evga sc.

Card look ok, gd shroud goes around the heatsink which looks to be pretty gd with lots of smaller fins, not sure on the orange, poor io though, 2 dvi? really should be 2/3 dp, 2 hdmi (vr), single 8 pin is nice already been proven all these extra power phases and 6/8 pin do nothing but sucker people in, price though is still a little to high imho.

Is this worth upgrading to from my 970? I mainly play in 1080p.

Agreed my evga 1060 6gb sc overclocks to 2100mhz sits 71 degrees at 44% fan speed in a raven rvz02 mini itx case, no thermal throttle, no noise and pulls about 135w, at stock it was pulling around 115w, this replaces the 970 and look at the tdp there, and evga did have a single fan solution for the 970, the problem is the standard 1060 evga mini or the zotac mini, the inno 3d all use inferior heatsink not much btr than a blower sink, but the cooler on the sc is far superior this gen's chips don't need 2 fans let alone 3 as long as a heatsink with copper pipes is provided, and ye these crap all over last gen for efficiency and the rx series is a joke for efficiency which is why I skipped amd altogether.

I balanced power efficiency card size and price (£238) to get what I needed the overclock on the sc was not a big deal as I knew I could overclock myself anyway but buying the sc vrsion meant that far better cooler and a slight btr binned chip.
Taken all that into account the 1060 was the sweet spot area for me, efficiency ruled out amd, the hdmi 2.0, hdr element ruled out last gen cards, the sff size narrowed the options to 5, wasn't buying an inno or any with that poor HS which left the gigabyte mini or the evga sc, and was never a big fan of gigabyte, evga no1 gpu sellers make gr8 cards and have gr8 CS. no contest really.

I guess it's true the 1070 is slightly hotter than the 1060, but the 1070 and 1080 are relatively cool chips compared to the previous generation and the AMD offerings.

My dream card! Was looking at reviews of this card yesterday (which are few and far between). Can't imagine thermals suffer particularly, otherwise it's a no brainer for mini-ITX builds like mine.

Better off waiting for Scorpio.

woops, this deal is the 1070, BUT, still has the same problems after searching online.

yeah, I purchased one a few weeks ago but had to return due to a common problem with both the gigabyte standard and OC edition of the 1060, the shroud around the fan causes the card to make an anooying sound as soon as the fans start speeding up and it has coil whine too. Bought the MSI instead. :smiley:

Actually this is correct. 'Less likely' are the operative words here.

Sorry that's not true unless you buy the really cheap poor heatsink variation, the 1060 evga sc overclocks and boosts fine while holding temps inside the 60's, this gigabyte card has a very similar heatsink, all be it the 1070 is a hotter chip than say the 1060, even so it should have no issues, just make sure the heatsink has pipes and this does.

Your assumption is correct, there's no way around it. Bigger coolers can dissipate more heat, more effectively.
Law of diminishing returns applies as ever, but with a smaller cooler the card will be less likely to hold higher boost clocks for as long.
Boost 3 (or whatever Nvidia's marketing department have called it) means that your clock speed is related to temperature. It's just built in overclocking really, but based on a thermal threshold.

Why were the minis released so soon? surely everyone would go for a mini since less space

I was looking for a regular version of this card as I have an ATX case but if this performs the same then I'm tempted.

Decent price for a 1070. Closer to MSRP than most other models. Not sure if the Mini ITX has any drawbacks compared to the normal sized versions.

didnt know about this model, was in the market for a 1060 but this looks a great deal.

I've yet to see a better price for the mini 1070. If you have a SFF and are looking for the best graphics card, this may be the second best possible card. (1080 is rumored to have a mini, but I don't think it exists yet).
