For this offer, do you need an NUS extra card? Or will a University ID suffice? Have got to the payment screen without being asked to prove I'm a student, but don't want to pay and not be able to use it.

I have been going to the Wealdstone one since it opened about 14 months ago. It was £12.99 a month for a year and then £16.99 lifetime price. All equipment was brand new. Its a basic no frills gym with plenty of equipment.
25 treadmills/ 25 cycling machines/rowers. weights etc..
Lots of daily free classes and staff are friendly. But I like to do my own workout and get out of there. I go in the morning and so very few people there.
When I started, my workout was actually getting there as they have huge stairs and by the time I
reached at the top, I needed few minutes just to breathe again. Remember its a month by month and
so they try hard to make you happy. If you miss a week, you get a motivation email to get back there.
Take the £10.99 offer and see if you like it. I love my gym as it balances my love to takeaways

I used the Manchester one for over two years for £12.99pm. It's a basic gym if that's what you are after and equipment are new. The staff are really friendly. Only left because I wanted a bit more from my gym - pool, sauna, steam room and the likes. I got all I wanted further down the street for an added £7pm
Like someone suggested, take the £10.99 offer and see if you like it.

Around here all we had was Leisure centre and that was £40+ a month. It was £12.99 for the first year but now paying £16.99 so this deal will save me some money. Check out both first. We had open days before they opened just to have a look. With the gym, you can cancel anytime. month by month deal.

Tell me about it man, so glad my Uni city has pretty much everything. At home DW owned the monopoly and I had paid something like £18 a month, and every year they'd charge a £20 joining fee. **** that.

I'm at Newcastle, near Eldon Garden.
It costs £92.99 for me to go Pure Gym for 9 months (£10.30 per month).
It costs £99.99 for me to go Gym Group for 10 months (£9.90 per month).
They're both ultra cheap. How long is this offer on for as I want my membership to start in October and I want to check out both gyms as there are both right next to each other, see which ones quieter and has more free weight equipment (less waiting around), as well as their opening times. Which of these do you guys prefer?

Not sure. Only noticed the deal on Friday when going online. No mention of it in the gym.
See if you can contact both and get a day pass. The gym is usually £4.95 but they always give
out passes for free. You are lucky you have a choice of which gym to go

How do they check that you qualify as a student for this deal? Can't see anything online where you need to enter a NUS number for example?
shabbird to sunnyp

under the student membership its asks if you have a NUS card or promotional code.
I have one so didn't need to test if you really needed one.

It's tempting. Only 9 months at my gym but I signed up when thry opened and after the initial 12 months at 9.99 they've been charging me 12.99 with the usual cost 16.99. My concern is that if I sign up as a student they'll jack the price up after 9 months and I'll end ip losinh money in the long run.

10 Sep 16#28
yes that will happen as I asked them my lifetime price of £16.99 will be there once the offer is finished and they
said it will return to the price of the gym at that time. Can take the risk as I now pay £16.99 and current price is £17.99
so just a small increase and hope they don't increase in 10 months time.

No you can't . I tried and they said you need to cancel first the membership and then sign up for this. They are not making it easy. :disappointed:

yes you can but sadly no direct way to do it. You need to cancel your membership and choose this one.
Also don't forget to cancel the direct debit or they will keep taking that. Its a hassle but for £70 savings for me,
I don't mind. :smirk:

I am currently member of Pure Gym but The Gym is opening soon marginally closer to me. Of course, it is cheaper to start with £11 vs £17. Has anyone used them both and can compare? I was trying to figure out whether they do the same amount of free classes (which is what motivates me to actually go) but it seemed that The Gym was a bit lacking in comparison somehow.

lol I am surrounded by about 11 food places within 5 minutes of the gym. No easy and thats why I go very early before any takeaways open. They also give out daily free passes so you can check out the gym before you sign up.
