You're confused about how you use these. The Dyson changes the way you vacuum. The idea is not to spend half an hour vacuuming your whole house in one go with all the sweat, noise, heat and upheaval that brings. With the Dyson you spend 5 minutes vacuuming the hallway. Another 5 mins the living room. Then you cooly pop it back on the charging station. Next time you spend 3 mins doing the bathroom or the bedroom. It's meant for short regular bursts of cleaning. The idea that we need to vacuum the whole house in one go is backwards thinking in any case. Having said that, you can easily do a whole flat with one of these before it runs out of juice.

Am i right in thinking that all the dyson v6's are all the same in terms of power and battery run time? Just different tools i.e the Animal has an extra pet tool?

£152.99 refurb direct from Dyson 1yr warranty ebay
The V6 has the smallest head and with 20 minutes battery I would seriously advise looking at at least the animal model. I sell these everyday for currys and the V6 I would say is the only one you should think twice about.

I think the battery run time alone would make this a no no for most people. Who can hoover their whole house/flat in 20 minutes ffs?? Had it been an hour charge then it would be a different ball game, I woulda ordered one str8 away!

To be clear though all V6 upright models have the same battery life - 20 minutes. Doesn't matter if it's a V6 Animal or V6 Absolute.
The model in this deal is this one:
The difference is in the head but the standard V6 is very powerful and sucks up a huge amount of dust from our carpets and floors so I would strongly disagree with you that this is not worth it. On the contrary, the expensive V6 Absolute doesn't warrant the huge price premium for a little more head suction, HEPA filter and extra attachments. These are the 3 differences between the V6 and most expensive V6 Absolute models (there is a V8 now. It's very similar to V6 Absolute).

I'm in love with mine too from the Tesco offer. Absolutely brilliant. great on my laminate floor with no scratching, straight onto carpet. No fault at all found. So easy and a doddle to Hoover the stairs!

Got ours for £169 from Tesco last week. Effing love it. Picks up everything and really lightweight. We've got a house rabbit (who is currently shedding like mad) and all her fur gets sucked up too.

Yes same motor but the tools are different powers, so the motorised head on the top of the range items are 30w, 25w middle and 20w or 15w bottom, the head width is also different. The motorised hand tools are different. Slightly annoyingly some of the V6 tools are not interchangeable due to chips/fittings
I think this is a good deal, stay away from the refurbs and if you really want value for money obviously don't but Dyson, buy Vtech gram or Shark or one of the other tried and tested better products. The build quality on Dyson handheld is nowhere near as good as their normal vacuum cleaners

Thanks for the insight, i've tried both the basic v6 and the total (liked the fluffy head tool). But still can't get my head around the price difference. Am i right to assume that all these tools work on the suction created by the motor and in my head - if working off an identical motor should be equally powerful? Not my area of expertise

The difference among the Dyson v6 versions: (Taken from TechKing's review on Amazon) Standard - has a 20w motorhead attachment, this is the weakest of the series and a crevice tool Animal - same motorhead attachment as the standard. In addition it has a mini motorhead for pets Fluffy - has all the above and one additional soft brush attachment specifically designed for bare / hardwood floors Total Clean - has all the above but a more powerful 35w direct-drive cleaner head - which replaces the standard 20w motorhead. Absolute - has the mini pet tool as above, a more powerful 50w direct-drive than the Cleaner, and oddly, a very plain / simple attachment with silicon wipes for hardwood floors instead of soft brush attachment. In addition it has a Hepa filter at the motor exhaust - this also makes it a little heavier. All this will make the battery work a lot harder than the lower end versions.

Thanks for this, what about the v6 trigger? also I noticed other versions like V6 Flexi / Motorhead / trigger pro
nellygtfc
2 Sep 16#14
It's far easier just to check each version out on the Dyson website. The Flexi is like the standard version, includes 3 flexible brushes, Stubborn Dirt Brush, Flexi Crevice Tool, Up Top Tool - useful for doing between cupboards, top of wardrobes etc.
The v6 Motorhead was released for the USA market only, so ignore it - Dyson only give warranty on UK versions, they won't even give warranty on any products for the European market - Dyson know by the serial number.
The v6 trigger versions are handheld only (no extension pole), all it includes is the crevice/combination tools. The v6 trigger pro in addition has a mini motorhead for pets.
Cold from me - price is good but its only good for half a house and it picks up less than half a litre. 15 min max battery life.

Depends on the size of your flat/house/rooms. Large rooms do take a while to vac thoroughly. Albeit, these are great for a quick once over, but a full size is still necessary if you have large spaces.
Budden
2 Sep 161#29
We can do our whole 3 floor house easily in 20mins, after all it's not always "on", just when you are using it and have your finger pressed on the trigger, which if you think about it isn't that long. I'd say you can almost do a full house even on max which is far more powerful than you would normally need. We would never use anything else now.

2 Sep 16#30
Point still stands. Unless you live in a house with mansion-sized rooms, a full charge on the Dyson in this deal is enough to vacuum fully 2-3 rooms or 2 rooms and a large hallway minimum. I've been doing just that for the past 2 weeks.

Ha ok fair enough. The new V8 model has longer battery life but is more than double the price of this currently. Maybe that would be more suitable.

2 Sep 16#34
It is indeed. What many folks don't understand is that it's ability to suck up dust and debris from the floor is not just based on its powerful suction, but the rotating head that lightly digs in and loosens the dust in your carpets so that it is sucked up. This model sucks up more than my corded vacuum that we have since chucked out.

The real issue with these, in my experience, is the very small bin. I have to empty it very regularly as it fills up almost immediately after being used. If I don't, it overfills, and it becomes very difficult to empty. The only downside for me

Takes all of 10 seconds to empty. Press button, bottom pops open, stuff falls out, close bottom and done. If this is your 'real issue' then I think the hoover has done pretty well.

2 Sep 161#37
The bin is so easy to empty though. Just pull the lever and it all falls out in your bin. 5seconds and carry on.

2 Sep 16#39
What are you using it on, the beach? No seriously, mine wouldn't fill up 'almost immediately' unless I took it outside on the drive. Bin is big enough for 10 mins on very dirty carpets around the house.

One of my sister has one of these as well as a Gtech .....she let me use them both around her house recently as she knows I am a bit of a vacuum cleaner fan(sad I know) and I was impressed with both these cleaners....both lightweight but seemed to pick up everything with ease....the GTECH edged it for me on wooden floors and the Dyson won on carpets..lol....this looks like a bargain price for the Dyson so heat added.
Both great products.

I've got a Which? magazine sub atm and they tested the GTECH against the Dyson V6. I trust Which? as they are not in the pocket of the big companies that supply the products they review.
The GTECH AirRam AR02 upright (£225) and ARO9 (£249) scored 64% and 61%. The Dyson V6 in this deal scored 75%. The only area where either of the GTECH uprights is superior is the ARO9 has slightly better pet hair removal (as this particular V6 doesn't come with the animal hair attachment) and outputs less noise. Carpet vacuuming performance and allergen retention of the V6 is superior.
The V6 is also much lighter at 2.0kg versus 3.6 and 3.8kg for the GTECHS. In short, buy the Dyson because it's better and can be had for cheaper with deals like this one.

This or the new vax copy?
Wonder how they compare on noise and performance?
Vax slim vac is cheaper, has a larger bin, runs a little longer, and I prefer the look.
But dyson can be hung on wall (vax must touch the ground), and may be better designed. Might perform better too, especially the fluffy head for hard floors.

Hi. I have just picked up the V8 animal for £387. Double the price of the V6 , but really does pick up the rubbish. U don't buy a vacuum cleaner very often,so I think it is worth it. Just google it & loads of prices come up. U just pull a lever @ the top , & it all the dust comes out. Glad I bought the V8 instead of the V6.
