Love how polarised people are on this. I quit the game after the second expansion. I then returned to it for The Taken King about 6 months ago. Met countless people to team up with and I've now joined a growing clan to start raiding in the last few weeks. In terms of a social video game, this is it. The raids bring up random moments every time!
Do people still play this? Well the Destiny community raised $500,000 for St Jude's children's charity in USA 2 weeks ago. I'd say it's strong enough to warrant getting into the game.

I'm hoping so, I'm counting on it taking me to near Christmas along with my pile of shame. I know it includes a level boost, but I'm hoping I'm not so low in the levels that I can't do anything

I'm im this boat. I played vanilla and found it got quite dull after a while. I got to level 20 and found this to be too much of a grind. Is there anything in this "new" edition that is likely to change my mind on the game? I played with a couple of friends but we all got bored of it pretty quickly.

I'm a huge fan of this game but... not really. The last DLC was pretty good for this but not before that. There's plot behind it, stuff you can read online etc, but not a great deal built into the game. Also almost none of the DLC expanded the main story at all.
The best thing you can do in this game is play it with some friends who also have it and play regularly. That's how you get the most fun out of it, IMO. Looking to play it solo for the campaign, it won't last that long unless you find yourself hooked on grabbing lots of loot.
That said, as others have pointed out, it's a great price for a lot of content. I've bought each bit of DLC and he full game at full price, the latest DLC being £25 on its own next Tues, and this is less than a tenner more including everything that came before? Heat added for sure.

Two
They did a similar thing last year when the taken king came out you got the base game and all the previous dlc plus the new dlc
this has the new dlc from the rise of iron which comes out next tuesday, its bigger than last years the taken king expansion that added a completely new story quest, a massive 6 man raid, All new multiplayer maps and a load of new strikes, Not to mention new weapons, armours, new loot systems and special events like SRL sparrow racing league and the festival of the lost.

Probably will be as destiny 2 has no chance of releasing in 2017, think bungie will milk out a few more dlc for this and probably a complete Edition will be out around the same time next year.

A bloody good deal considering the cost of the rise of iron DLC alone. Very tempting as I've gotten back into Destiny.

Do these collections add further MP maps? I was always an MP player on vanilla original release rather than Co-op on strikes, etc.

How many editions of this game are they going to release? Legit question - this is going the way of "Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo Alpha Remix Championship Ultimate Edition" - just wait for the whole lot of DLC to come out before sinking any money into this.
Edit: Bought the original "Collector's Edition" of this game on PS4 on release and one of the biggest regrets of my life. Came with a "so called" Season Pass for first 2 expansions... but is useless now without Taken King DLC...

Too true - and the only thing making it a "PRO" edition is a skin for a weapon or piece of in-game, cosmetic only armour with no real stat benefit!

The game is a mess of constant weapon balancing mistakes, the worst P2P Multiplayer I have experienced in years, no in game matchmaking for end game content, horrendous grinding for weapons/armour, an incoherent story..

For many the social side of the game makes the difference. You can easily find a group of people to game with using LFG sites or sites like http://www.the100.io that match you with similar gamers in a sort of loose "clan"..

Oh I've played my fair share, battlefield 2, 3, 4, hardline, overwatch, cod advanced warfare, modern warfare 1, 2, 3, halo 1, 2, 3, 4, and plenty more, no guns feel better than destiny guns, and no PvP even comes close. once you've played in the Crucible, Iron banner of trials you'll wonder why you've been bothering with any other PvP game.

should take a while, personally I restarted one of my three characters a couple of months ago, took me a week or two to do the campaigns, it's good to do it in the original order they were designed in. you'll always find so.eone ready to do the old raids too on lfg as Bungie have built new gun quests into some of them.

For a 6 month period you had two glitched weapons as the only viable PvP weapons in the game. Last time I checked they had buffed pulse rifles to the point where no other primary could even be considered and everyone was running rampant with high aim assist sniper rifles.
I have never experienced lag or networking issues found in this game in any other modern release.
PvP in this game is an absolute mess.

Strange isn't it? It's a society issue. If something is popular (take iphone/android/xbox/playstation etc) then you'll find no end of people who will try their best to take a sh*t on it. Why not let people just enjoy what they enjoy? Who cares.
That, or get into an unknown indie game that nobody has ever heard of.
That said, this is a great deal IMO. I've logged almost 2000 hours in the game, and as stated elsewhere finding a clan/friends makes this so much more fun. Especially with the new custom games. Not forgetting rumours that most of the old conent will be made relevant again at some point in 2017 before Destiny 2 ships.

Anyway, if those who are actually are interested in getting into a great shooter, and are on Xbox One, I suggest you get I to a clan (try searching SuicideSyndicate, we have quite a few dedicated members) Bungie has a good clan system, and it's been improved since the Taken King, as many changes for Rise Of Iron have already been put in place. LFG is great, but it's better to shoot with people who end up becoming mates in a clan rather than randoms each time you play. PS, PS4 obviously have great clans too... I just don't use them.
