I've got one of the bigger ones and if you sit in front of and close to the opening it's warm, otherwise it's pretty pointless. As it's so well insulated it retains the heat, so you don't feel it if not sat directly in front and close. I've got a metal one now which has a mesh right round and a door, so sit anywhere round it and it's warm. It's also big enough for the logs we have for our log burner, whereas with the chiminea it's hard to get logs in unless they are small.

If they get wet, you have to use a really small fire inside to allow it to completely dry out before firing it up properly again. Otherwise they crack.
I have a clay chiminea, used it loads and it hasn't cracked but we do keep it under a cover and don't use when rain is due. Also, because clay is a rather good insulator it doesn't give off as much heat through the sides as an iron chiminea.

eh ? it has a 4 out of 5 rating with mainly great reviews such as...
This is a must have
This was purchased as an upgrade - we thought about a cast one but decided against as we didn't want the product to rust if it started to rain suddenly . We purchased this as we were happy with clay chimineas. This is an outstanding product - well deserved 10 out of 10 - there are no disadvantages to it at all - it gives off wonderful heat - the fire draws well & lasts well - I would not be without this chiminea & would most certainly recommend it without hesitation

As above. Get a metal one. We got a clay one and used sand, followed instructions etc. But it still cracked after a couple of uses.

The reviews seem to say that its good for throwing out heat, I've reserved one while i think about!

They throw out a lot of smoke too, great for annoying your neighbours and poisoning your guests. keeps the mossies away though.
