i never write comments but feel compelled to do so. i am a spark and own many branded and expensive drills tools screwdrivers, this is one of the most used tools on my toolbox, the value for money is incredible, use daily fixing back boxes, fascia, connections, screwing in general,no need for torque as you just release the trigger, enough power to do many jobs, but not to much power to damage items that suggest hand tools only.(flat pack etc)that pony set of screwdrivers that dont compare and are not fit for purpose against what this item is capable of, are nothing on this item, this item save loads of time against a screwdriver and has lasted me years now with no issues.some comments are just ignorant and ridiculous.GREAT PRODUCT, GREAT VALUE,

Sorry but your wrong on all count's .your clearly just amateur bodger that needs device to prevent you cocking up fitting a simple screw .Next you will be needing torque wrench for every nut and bolt other wise you will be shearing them lol

Well personally I think the Ryobi from B&Q for £32 or the Bosch PSR for £55 are the better buys.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bosch-603957770-Cordless-Lithium-Ion-Screwdriver/dp/B0047O2ARG/

The PSR weighs about 200g more, but has a clutch and variable speed. And a nice charging stand (which the new IXO doesn't anymore).

Both are still lightweight enough for screwdriving easily I think.

Top review on amazon sums it up well I think. And other's mention poor ergonomics.

I've never had a problem with the lack of torque control, handy to have but not essential for me. I loved the white tin case mine came in. The improved design prevents knocking the screwdriver out of gear, which used to happen with the old style. A great price.

11 Sep 16 #86
Thanks. What about the lack of clutch/torque control though? Ryobi and Bosch work out the same price if you get the torque attachment for the Bosch.

Variable speed would be nice too.

I'm going to get a proper 18v drill likely for proper work - but would like something like this for putting together flat pack. But the one speed/one torque nature puts me off - the whole point is to use it for delicate/light work.

If you can't control one of these or recognise its limits you are a dimwit. I count this as an essential item in my toolbox, alongside much more expensive tools for heavier duty drill driving and other tasks. Use the right tool for the job and it'll do what it's designed for, and this is a well designed very practical, well proven piece of kit.
Shinoke
11 Sep 16 #83
Or this has an inbuilt clutch - whereas with the Bosch you need to spend an extra £12 for a clutch.
Worried that without a clutch you'd damage flat pack etc?

all I can say is that I have bought cheap ones before, like challenge one from argos, total rubbish

However, the Bosch one I have had for over a year now, best bit of kit, so many above have said nothing but good things, and finally Bosch wouldn't give you 2 year Parts & Labour Warranty if it wasn't any good, it'll cost them a fortune if they were c**p

I bought one of these from the Argos deal a while ago, and have used it for all sorts of things. Excellent piece of kit, very powerful but controllable (although you do need to be careful). Yes I have a cordless drill/driver too but there is no comparison - this is far lighter, more compact and obviously you can drill and screw without switching bits.

For hex bits, I use Wera gold or diamond bits from Toolstation, they are very durable for ham-fisted DIYers like me.

As many others have said but I will repeat... these are amazing little gadgets and worth every penny of the price. Really powerful unlike the old school battery screwdrivers that sort of gave up half way through, these get the screw down as tightly as manually doing it. Highly recommended and great find at this price - cheers OP!

I have the newest model and the forward/reverse is now positioned on top and isn't easy to accidentally select the other way.

I had the older version too so know exactly what your saying as done that myself many times.
stuart07970
11 Sep 16 1 #57
Having had the Mk.1 version of this for years, torque control is not a problem you just let it rotate a quarter turn in your hand whilst you take your finger off the trigger.
ottosump288
11 Sep 16 2 #56
I've had one of these for years, still going strong. My only gripe is the location of the forward/reverse switch, constantly inadvertently engaging the switch during use which is a bit annoying. Does look as though they've upgraded the design though as I don't see the red selector button on this model. Handy tool though for moderate DIY which holds its charge well.
ottosump288
11 Sep 16 1 #55
Yes, does only accept hex bits, however the rotation speed is quite slow, don't expect it would be much use as a drill
ottosump288
11 Sep 16 #54
I wouldn't recommend this for decking, it's a bit of a lightweight and doesn't have any torque control. You can borrow my impact driver if you're in the West Cumbria area

3hr charge time!

I have the older model which has a 5hr charge time. It requires a lot of planning as it is likely to fail mid-diy job. I was using it with a hex countersink bit to do skirting board though!

Also I found it seemed to have a lot of torque for a screwdriver. Too much for some jobs so I just used a hand screwdriver!

Guys this is not an impact driver or a hammer drill, so don't judge it as such, it's just a lightweight electric screwdriver - but it's lighter and smaller than even an impact driver, so it definitely has its uses!

Does it come with a bit extension? Some things I need to reach would require one. Thanks!

with this tool and self drilling screws you can build decking, install floor boards, joists, stud walls and no end of other wood jobs. hand tools are hopeless and slow and big drills mean you can't get into small spaces easily. These are one of the most useful tools you can buy.

Just pointing out to those who may be considering a purchase. Better of with a sturdy set of screwdrivers https://www.amazon.co.uk/Stanley-Cushion-Screwdriver-Phillips-STA065011/dp/B000X2GJ1E/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1473536160&sr=8-3&keywords=Stanley+screwdrivers
