Well, I know where you're coming from, but that's not strictly true. The fat still drips down onto the burner covers and the burning of that fat, gives the BBQ taste to the food. Not as well as the charcoal I agree, but still far superior to an oven.

An outdoor gas cooker to go with my outdoor bath, (or call it a hot tub if it makes you feel better) just need my outdoor toilet building, then im really up with the posh folk !!!

I'd say the posers are the charcoal people, gas is so much easier to use. That said my most successful BBQ ever was a charcoal tripod one.

I've got one of these and have had some great BBQ's this summer. Very easy to construct although takes a bit of time. As long as you experiment and play around with the temp settings you get excellent results. Don't believe all the snobbery of those who spend 4 hours trying to get the coals hot enough and then just nuke everything - the taste depends upon on what you are cooking and comes from the direct heat, not from some farcical myth that coals have some magical flavour that only a select few will ever achieve....Or just get some smoke chips or beer cans if you are really that bothered.

BBQ'ing is indirect low and slow cooking
Grillling is direct fast cooking.

So all arguments aside about how good grilling on gas vs charcoal is, then the fact remains this is indeed "just" a grill.

Good deal if you can find one, heat added.

Just been to Chelmsford and Braintree, not a single bbq left apart from some bbq missing the grill and knows :disappointed:

Plus there is a lot more to cooking than just charcoal; sauces, marinades, rubs, smoking chips. Plus being able to quickly adjust temperatures makes a huge difference.

Just called the store, 3 left.... £30 is just for the top part of the bbq no base/legs!!! Still bloody cheap if u want to build one....

Be posh like me and have both ... I haven't used my gas one yet and I am deliberating how to go about things. I also bought lava rocks in case I decide to MacGyver something up using the gas BBQ or portable gas burner.

I won't know until next summer, I move to a new place at the start of October.

Fire and gas. Just asking for trouble that.

I use my Weber Q 3-4 times a week in all weather.
A gas bottle cost me £22
I use charcoal for a home built smoker (UDS) - which will also BBQ
I also use electric for a Bradley Smoker
So all bases covered in this argument 'o)
Gas for price & convenience is perfect.

Getting good flavour can be achieved in many ways on gas, wood chips, beer, lots of means.

I spent a year in Oz & they all have gas. Just not the same. Did anyone see Gino D'acampo in Tuscany? Bistecca Alla Fiorentina over charcoal, mmmm the best way to cook meat! <3

Love using gas its quick and you can have a bbq at a moments notice between rain storms during the british summer

Totally agree! I was a dedicated charcoal BBQ user...until I got the Masterchef gas BBQ and the charcoal BBQ has gone to the dumpit site. So much more convenient and, as previously stated, the authentic BBQ taste mainly comes from ignited fat that drips down to the burner.

Howver, I do aspire to getting summat like this should my numbers come up.:confused:

Between now and the end of October is silly season for gas BBQ prices, I tend to buy stuff like this out of season (got the brilliantly stylish Masterchef 2 burner from Tesco last October for 60 quid reduced from 200!).
