I carry two phones (well sometimes more) but I have a Galaxy S7 for personal (having come from a long line of iPhones) and this BlackBerry Passport for work. I was against it before I got one but having used it, that keyboard is just amazing for bashing out emails and messages with accuracy and speed, the phone software is efficient and power frugal (even better with that huge battery). It's well built and more practical than you might imagine. It won't be for everyone but before you knock it, you should try it and at this price it's very reasonable for what's on offer.
I tried the PRIV but it's massive and the slider makes it really hard to protect, plus the keyboard just isn't as good as the Passport or Classic.

Well how are others new to the blackberry experience finding it.
I myself took collection the middle of last week, this being my 1st blackberry although I had played around with one someone owned. Negatives 1st : I can see the App Store even amazons is no match for googles and apples App Store but there again the rational for me getting this was the fantastic price for a extremely well made phone and also although coming from a China build phone I found the main apps that I used on a regular basis were amounting to 7 at the very most, the others were there for the sake of being able to say I have them.
The one I will miss the most is wattsapp and I have looked at the YouTube vids on how to down load the play store but it seems to have gone over my head:) at the moment.
Getting used to the hub .
Sound quality is brilliant compared to my last phone .
Good enough camera(for anyone into the "my camera has more pixels than yours") all I can say is get yourself a proper optical camera.
As the phone is wide I thought I would start with a clear gel case that protects the sides and back and then see if it meets my needs later on done the line.
So let's hear from some new to the blackberry experience although late in the day :disappointed:
Oh and guess what ..... It still takes and receives calls and sms :stuck_out_tongue:

Strange, mines working fine with USB on windows 10.
Blend working fine, had to download updated blend v1.2 from softpedia to get it to work though, blackberrys website seems to be a bit broken.
I downloaded the maps apk from google play then transferred it to pc and used cobalts patcher to patch it then transferred new apk to phone and installed it but hasnt worked for me or something is causing to crash. Will remove it and try again

Thats strange, audio streaming seems to work fine for me.
So far I've had a mixed success with apps. Got all the google play stuff installed. Some google apps work, some dont. Google maps doesnt work (crashes as soon I start the app), google drive loads but shows no files, android whatsapp doesnt work(shows: "Something is wrong with your version of whatsapp" then closes). Bank app opens then closes when it tries to "Authenticating your device", and the facebook and messenger apps dont load at all.
But a lot of other apps do work. Different web browsers like chrome and opera work. BBC apps all seem to run fine, Amazon apps are all good.
A lot of apps require patching to make them work with google play services but this is easy enough to do.

i cant even get the device in usb storage mode on either or mac / window . i have also tried to install blackberry blend (mac sierra not getting anyway) windows 10 - it kind of in a loop looking to connect.

Hmm. Wonder why my v 9.38.1 maps doesnt work. As soon as it goes to load the map it crashes. Maybe I shouldn't have patched it.

I tried whatsapp without patching and it said it needed google play services. So I patched it and now it just says "Something is wrong with your version of whatsapp".
Will keep trying to get apps working...

with my google login, so it looks like it has all my settings
google photo was a big buggy
there is a google maps available on blackberry world i believe.

Back pocket and jacket pockets fine, its same size as a UK passport width wise and quite thin, battery life is amazing 2 days on average, makes Iphone look skinny and you get a great typing experience unlike IOS and Android where the keyboard floods the screen! Great for business people with emails and security, less so for gamers and people that watch whole movies on their phone!

but i'm sorry a 2.5 year old phone at this standard should cost no more than £180 **

As someone who is non-biased to any brand but goes through a seriously high amount of phones, i'd say this: consider this purchase very, very, very carefully.
Essentially, BB10 is a dead OS at this point. There is a rumour that there will be ONE LAST update to the OS before it is officially dead. What does that mean? Well, it means that many app developers will cease to program for it, so you'll see apps pulled from the App Store and no new mainstream apps will hit the store.
Honestly, in my non-biased opinion, buying a phone with BB10 on is pointless right now unless you have a damn good reason. Blackberry have made the Priv and DTEK50, both of which run on Android and receive monthly updates like the Nexus range, so if you have to have Blackberry, you'd be better running those.
It's a real shame because Blackberry used to be so good, but their innovation, or lack thereof and their reluctance to go to Android earlier has cost them greatly. I'm not voting either way, but as good as the battery may be, the OS is dead so once you buy the phone, just note that it will probably never change and any bugs will *NOT* be getting fixed.

Having used a BlackBerry phone exclusively for about 10 years (7230 through to Z10, 9100 is still the greatest phone ever made) I was devastated when they dropped the keyboard and moved to iPhone, having picked up a very cheap second hand Q5 I've fallen in love with BB again, you cannot beat one it for messaging/emailing.

I've just tried an android phone after being a blackberry user for years. I spent 3 days with it and have just reurned it for a Passport.
Android was a nightmare, things you take for granted on a blackberry like 1 glace overview of new messages on multiple email accounts that comes as (get ready for this Android fans) STANDARD!!! I went on forums and just get told oh install multiple third parts email clients and you can get that. Well how about taking a phone out of the box and it doing all you need from the moment you turn it on?
Also you have to keep your android on all night to use the alarm? The whole thing reminds me of when a friend of mine was telling me how they didn't need copy and paste on their iPhone, you get used to what limitations are enforced on you. Now I'll admit the Passport looks fairly odd, but my word, productivity wise it is unreal. True it isn't for Youtube channel watchers and Facebook game freaks.

I have this phone, an android phone and an iphone 5. My other half has an 1phone 6s ( she cracked the screen ) and after seeing how good mine is has decided she wants a BB Passport so this offer is timely. It is hands down the best phone I have ever used ( and trust me I am a gadget junky!). The operating system is smooth as silk. Feature wise it is immense, I have barely scratched the surface, I can get and reply to my work emails/whatsapp/texts etc on my laptop/monitor via bb link, the battery life is excellent, when I sync my music files via the dreaded i-tunes it includes my playlists, blackberry blend/hub are awesome, it has a built in back up system, emails and texts are rapid due to the amazing predictive text system - I will never tire of flicking words up onto the screen via the keyboard ( doubles as a cursor ), it takes 128gb sd cards and I can sideload android via SNAP.
The looks can be divisive to say the least but I love it. It is solid, functional and in my eyes quite distinctive :stuck_out_tongue:
I am seriously tempted to buy another as back-up..

Maps is also now working properly.
Google drive seems to be the only google app I use that I cant get to work properly.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRIGlmhxWX8 (so this should work after 2016)
the only thing that doesn't work is attaching pictures within whatsapp
Blend working fine, had to download updated blend v1.2 from softpedia to get it to work though, blackberrys website seems to be a bit broken.
I downloaded the maps apk from google play then transferred it to pc and used cobalts patcher to patch it then transferred new apk to phone and installed it but hasnt worked for me or something is causing to crash. Will remove it and try again
A lot of apps require patching to make them work with google play services but this is easy enough to do.
i cant even get the device in usb storage mode on either or mac / window . i have also tried to install blackberry blend (mac sierra not getting anyway) windows 10 - it kind of in a loop looking to connect.
so have to upload files to dropbox and redownload etc
i used this guide
http://forums.crackberry.com/android-apps-amazon-store-apk-files-f413/how-patch-android-apps-depending-google-maps-google-play-services-914930/
just did a google search for the apk, apkmirror or something...
Chrome seems fine to me, logged in and got my bookmarks
I tried whatsapp without patching and it said it needed google play services. So I patched it and now it just says "Something is wrong with your version of whatsapp".
Will keep trying to get apps working...
with my google login, so it looks like it has all my settings
google photo was a big buggy
there is a google maps available on blackberry world i believe.
google chrome doesn't allow sign in but loads fines, so cant do bookmarks
installed latest youtube and patched myself using a guide cobalt and that now allows casting...
im going to try whatsapp now because if the google play one doesn't work that means it wont on the device after december 31st
The passport is still as good as I remember. Using it to type this comment!
Are you still on lollipop?
Also have you done the blackberry updates from the play store?
they update a lot and have ironed out most things now.
i wonder if there will be further price drop as blackberry is leaving the hardware industry announced today
Didnt realise when I ordered that their warehouse for these devices is in Austria and so far has made it to Germany according to the tracking. Here's to hoping it still arrives this week!
ordered the passport to trial...
Love how this deal has gotten heat, it shows there is a place for Blackberry if they priced themselves more competitively.
As a tool for work, I should imagine that screen is fantastic for websites and documents.
Just had mine delivered, excellent phone. The killer application is the message hub though, abslutely perfect piece of software engineering!
Anyone seen these for a similar price elsewhere? Blackberry "EU" store is very limited in where they deliver and where they won't.
I have been eyeing a passport though for the unique form factor, it just has to run an OS that's actually supported. Give me Android on it and I'm sold.
Android 2.1 and Android 2.2
Blackberry OS 7 and earlier
Blackberry 10
Nokia S40
Nokia Symbian S60
Windows Phone 7.1
The prime example of CEO's who cant do their job, classically BB.
but i'm sorry a 2.5 year old phone at this standard should cost no more than £180 **
Blackberry's BB10 OS is dead in the water. Of course, this isn't official, but they have less than 1% of the marketshare. See here: http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/2358108/blackberry-s-global-market-share-shrinks-to-less-than-one-percent
It's predicted to drop to 0.3% by 2018 https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2014-05-28/blackberry-market-share-to-fall-to-0-3-in-2018-idc-says
Blackberry users have already been told to upgrade to an "iPhone, Android or Windows Phone" if they want to keep using WhatsApp: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/2016/02/29/whatsapp-kills-blackberry-app-and-tells-owners-to-upgrade-their/
Honestly, in my non-biased opinion, buying a phone with BB10 on is pointless right now unless you have a damn good reason.
I'm not voting either way, but as good as the battery may be, the OS is dead so once you buy the phone, just note that it will probably never change and any bugs will *NOT* be getting fixed.
don't get me wrong, the market could do with phones that have more screen width* but this is just too far
This is hot! Sadly it's too big for me, a modern day 9100 and I'd bite your hand off.
Well done Doooford.

Passport also needs to be on for the Alarm.
I've got a Classic and I hate it.
i wonder who on earth will buy these old time gadgets despite the fact people being cleaver to side load the play store and even download the android apps but not like the way they are on traditional android devices
The looks can be divisive to say the least but I love it. It is solid, functional and in my eyes quite distinctive :stuck_out_tongue:
I am seriously tempted to buy another as back-up..
I tried the PRIV but it's massive and the slider makes it really hard to protect, plus the keyboard just isn't as good as the Passport or Classic.
