BA have a fly drive sale on at the moment, including flights for next summer.
Great example - Manchester to Orlando with car for 2 weeks = £468pp. This time last week flights alone were just under £700pp and a car nearly £240.
Deals available on accommodation as well.

This is available again on BA site now, booked LHR - LAX 17th Aug'17 - 1st Sep'17, 2x Adults + 2x Kids + decent car for just under £600/person. By default they show AA for outward flight, but you can choose BA for no extra cost.

Although depending on what you prefer, AA allow you to choose your seats as soon as you've booked without any charges, whereas BA won't let you do this until 24 hours beforehand unless you pay (usually £31 per person per flight). For that reason we go AA where we can, despite the poorer service and cruddy food on board!

Yes, it's been an absolute nightmare trying to get through but when I finally did we also had an offer of pretty much any flights we wanted which was fantastic. I've still not decided - we had only booked (BA package flight+exec villa, BHX-MCO via JFK for May half term week, £1600 for 4) because it was ridiculously cheap, but then these crazy cheap Miami flights came up for July and I couldn't say no, so we've got 3 weeks in Florida then. Plus a fortnight at Easter, based on £300 flights from Hamburg that I couldn't resist!! So I haven't decided whether to take their offer of direct flights from LGW-MCO or just cancel...seems a bit unnecessary to go to Florida 3 times in 4 months but can't see us beating that price with anything else for those dates. First world problems!!

We also had cancellation on BHX-JFK. After a lot of phone calls and waiting on hold I finally got through to customer services who offered Heathrow flights as alternative. This is much better for us as much closer than BHX so now it has become an even better deal - many thanks OP...really appreciated.

Am I searching incorrectly?? Tried a couple of searches from Manchester/Birmingham to Las Vegas/Miami for August and being quoted ridiculous prices just for the outbound flight!! Probably me....

AA release their flights later than BA and they've got the better discounts so if you're looking at a return journey more than 11months into the future that's probably why you're not getting anything.
We booked 24 July - 12 Aug and there was loads available for earlier flights but for later on it was much dearer.
Also, when you say 'the outbound flight' it suggests you're looking at the flight only prices, as the package bookings don't specify each part of the flight. Search for flight+hotel or flight+car packages and it'll be cheaper than flight alone (providing you're in date range and the route is still available).
I think this has come about because AA have pulled flights out of MAN and BHX over the winter and reorganised some of the summer schedule into the bargain, which had thrown the whole thing into turmoil. We had an AA flight from JFK-BHX cancelled on Sunday, which coincides with these crazy prices becoming available.

I came across this last night and was going to post today if there was no cancellation from BA!
It's not just Orlando on sale (in fact I found he MCO flights to be dearer than most other airports). We booked LHR-MIA for 3 weeks in summer hols for £1995 for family of 4 including car hire in a Town & Country which would be about £700 from Avis, so the flights themselves have come in at about £325 each. That's direct, no changes, AA out (so free seat reservations, but take your own food as AA's is usually horrendous, and be aware they don't do kids meals) and BA back.
Las Vegas was also available for even less, flying from Newcastle, Leeds, Glasgow, Manchester or Jersey. LA, SFO, Chicago, Philedelphia and loads of others were also incredibly cheap. The LBA & NCL had excellent Tampa prices but involved the dreaded Gatwick-Heathrow-with-no-car transfer. One way car hire is about £60 (no chance you'll get us in a bus or train with kids and luggage!!).
The car hire is with Avis to those saying its a rip off, you're wrong. Anyone flying into Miami however beware that ALL car hire companies there will try to charge you $8-10 a day for a Sunpass for the cashless toll roads. You can buy your own in a CVS or Walgreens on the way out the airport for $20 but needs activated online. I bought one and have been loaning it out to friends ever since! Some sellers have them on eBay. Worth researching as it'll save you a fortune. Also check the insurance as suggested but it's usually fully inclusive - if not you can buy a package before you go that covers your excess for a lot less than on the desk.
The better deals were actually the ones including accommodation rather than just flight+car but we're not sure yet where we want to go. If you have an idea already then definitely get looking at a full package. Remember you get the bonus if ATOL protection too with these rather than flight only.
And you only need to pay a £300 deposit until next year rather than the full cost of the flights upfront! And get signed up for BA Executive Club for the Avios, for the kids too - you'll get enough for a couple of free European flights with this one booking!

As above, shop around for car hire. I Hired a SUV with full insurance for £310 with rentalcars.com. Although didn't get SUV as Dollar at MCO ran out of cars and only had large saloon ones. Quite annoying, so Twitter bashed them daily, as they were useless and no attempt made to rectify, ended up with a £250 refund. There must have been 10+ other people at the same time as us with the same problem. Some people paid for minivans and were stuck without a car. So I'd avoid a Dollar rental at MCO
