Was looking at how much the 32GB version is as disappointingly I'm busting the gut of my 16GB one. Was very happy to find this for this price - not least as it's still around £150 most other places - for the *16GB version*
This tablet features:
Gorilla Glass screen
2K display
2GB RAM
32GB Internal memory
Front facing dual speakers
Doubtless a well-known price-matching site might match this. But here's to UK tax laws NOT being exploited via Belgian loopholes ^.^

I wouldn't have believed it either had it not been on my lap. Plugged it in to charge and started smelling burning. Looked down to see the charge port actually visibly smoking. Melted the charge port and my 3m micro USB cable. I'm more upset at the cable to be fair, 1m cables just aren't enough these days.

Perfect, like a previous poster mentioned my current Asus first gen tab just decided to melt on me. It's been on its way out for a while but what a way to go. Time for an upgrade, picking it up tomorrow

I find it bizarre people having this kind of problem. But then I was used to seeing similar - people claiming their Philips MP3 players "stopped working after a day" or they "couldn't put any songs on it" - mine has been going for years and years and years now and never had a problem. But then again I suppose the Moto G4 fans would bawk at my experience of plugging it into the wall to charge it, and after 4 hours of charging it had gone from 10% to 11%.

It isn't outdated. Let alone having the Marshmallow update, there were tablets released after this one with lesser spec. So chronology isn't very relevant.

That's a relief. I have bought 3 versions of Asus tablet including this one and not had a problem with any of them. The auto-brightness can be turned off and there's also a blue light filter. Just keep prodding around.

left it charging but it was still stuck on the start up screen, tried rebooting a few times - no luck. Eventually it was 3rd time lucky with factory reset and it got going. it came with marshmallow (6.0.1) out of the box - I wonder if that is related to any of these issues, or if I should be concerned there is a problem with the device.
Now it seems to be working, my general impressions are good. I personally like the form factor, it is great for general browsing and news/magazine apps. the screen is excellent although I have some issues with the auto brightness function. overall it feels well built and is quite thin and light, I wouldn't hesitate to throw it in my bag without it weighting me down. Hoping the start up issues were just a one off!

Sadly true. I would have gone for that if I'd had enough money saved up. Their new ones just out have 5 speakers. Not overly convinced I'll really in need of 5 speakers on a tablet but 2 front facing is extremely nice.

I guess they're just protecting their stock but I have to say that if you're really nice to them (and I'm not suggesting that you aren't) they will invent a 'fault' to enter on to their system if you decided you just really hated something. I've done that with several items - the last of which was a mouse which I used, absolutely HATED, and took back to swap for a different one.

I agree with you.
Despite that difference between Z580C and Z580CA is massive, different CPU, different rom (4gb vs 2gb), and support for Z pen.
It's still quite an nice deal.
PS, don't forget the 1% (£1.25 effectively) cashback through quidco.
And you get 100GB free google drive for 2 years, that's another £48.00.
Warning, PC world/Currys won't let you return it with reasons like, "I don't like it no more" if you opened the plastic package.
The 21 days return policy only applicable to unopened item, which is ridiculous.

With 32gb that bloatware is going to be much less of an issue than on the 16gb though. In any case most of it can be force stopped and reverted to factory version. There are also various apps that will force it to an SD card for you.
The sound on this is a bit more than "ok" in my opinion! I've found it to be very powerful and impressive. Mine's never frozen on me after a good few months of use so far.

I picked up one of these yesterday. It is a pretty good tablet for the money. One thing that was really surprising was that most sources, including the PCWorld website lists the processor as an Intel Atom z3530, which runs up to 1.33 Ghz. However, on my model it reports the chip as the z3560, with a clock speed up to 1.8 Ghz.

I did think the first thing too. I was contemplating for a week watching the site, then this new stock popped stating in had MM. I checked on the Asus site too and it said it had MM so I took a punt thinking that if it didn't have it it, I'd just get a refund. I have a link to the XDA with my posts but not sure if I'm allowed to link it here? PM if you want.
Asus do things very differently, they haven't even released to bootloader key for the tab but have for other products, so it doesn't surprise me that they've released the tablet with it pre-installed before a general release of the update.
Regardless, it's a cracking piece of equipment

Aaahh. I wish I could afford a Sony Z4 tablet. Those things are so insane in spec Sony don't even need to bother releasing anything else for a good couple of years as they're still more powerful than some stuff that's only just getting released now. But they're SO expensive for it.

Yeah a phone has a slightly smaller screen. As for PC World it does unfortunately very much vary from branch to branch as to the customer service and how much they bother with their displays. Last time I went to look for a little compact camera the manager of my nearest branch who I asked for help seemed a lot more interested in asserting her authority over her staff than actually answering my questions. I also asked her if the mic of the camera was stereo - she said it wasn't. I looked it up on my phone while I was there and found out that it was.
