Seems decent enough at less than half rrp for the headset and mix amp.
Sporadic stock as with anything Argos of course.

Awesome headset and mix amp, bought mine in the olden days on black ops 1 and it's still going strong.
Well worth this price

Quick question for those in the know. I want to use these cross format ps4 and xbox one. I'm aware you need a connector for the xb1. Can anyone point me in the right direction for the connections required?
Although at nearly 18 quid you might just want to consider buying a whole new controller with the 3.5mm jack socket built-in.

I have these very good headset, but there is a problem with mic quality on the ps4 it's very bad with no fix unless you buy/use a separate mic xbox one I can't comment on

I am not 100% sure but i think you would need a splitter cable attached to xbox1 controller(1 sound 1 microphone) connect headphone to mic on controller splitter cable and a seperate cable from audio splitter to amp. I think.!!! With the new xbox 1 controller, no additional hardware is required as there is a 3.5mm socket(trrs) socket on controller.(trrs tip, ring, ring and screen.)

Thanks for the responses. I might as well go all out and get the new controller and save messing around.

Oh I see, so if I get a new controller and plug it straight in I can't use the mix amp? Did I get that right? Don't really want the mix amp to be an ornament lol.

Forgive my ignorance but how does it compare with the A40 with Mixamp M80 at £10 more?
I'd spend at least £10 in diesel getting to my nearest argos with this in stock whereas the other one is in stock nearby

M80 mix amp is stereo, mixamp pro is 7.1 surround.

Sorry to hear that. Given you paid over the odds, would you say they were at least worth the £89.99 here? Good to have a critical pov!

This isnt worth it for xbox1 tbh, you are better off waiting for a deal on the A40TR or Xbox one specific Astros that connect via the Xbox for 7.1.

I've never had a problem with the mic on my A40s. Great headset, I'm terrible playing FPSs without it (not much better with it tbh).

to use these on Xbox one all you need is 2.5mm to 3.5mm chat cable if you have the newer controller with 3.5mn jack. if you have the older controller you need the Xbox stereo chat adaptor.
you can also just use this headset direct into controller without mixamp.

How do these compare with A50s? There's new A50s coming out in October but obviosly they are £250 which is a bit steep considering I could get the new PS4 for less haha

Its not the greatest headset but for £90 it is a really good buy especially with the amp included.

I love the amp that came with these. Basically everything about this headset spoke of quality even the cables were something else compared with brands like Logitech etc. Unfortunately I had to sell these as the clutter of cables was just too much to bare in my living room and I went back to using my old wireless Sony Pulse headset which is worse in every way but has no cables. I don't recommend using these in your living room unless you live on your own. It's a hot price though of course!

19 Sep 16#38
It's obvious this reduction is due to the redesigned PS4 (slim) not having an optical out port.
Hiltron09 to Schwarzenegger
19 Sep 16#39
I kind of want to say yes that'll be why but then Argos mess up too much to have such foresight. PS4 slim is a bit pointless really.

Yeah echoing the previous comments the mic on these (if its the original A40) is garbage - I got a pair at Xmas and my friends immediately told me I now sounded like a robot. The issue appears to be caused by the mixamp and not the headset itself, quite a few youtube videos about this. Shame cause they sound amazing.
Picked up the Cloud Core in a deal recently and they're great, stereo but the Astros are 'fake' (virtual) surround anyway.

Was looking at selling the headset and keeping the mix amp but pairing with a Beyerdynamic MMX 300 headset. Wondering if there is much difference in the ones you just mentioned. I'll have to have a look into that.

If you want a decent headphone amp (who really needs levels and a DSP?) get an Audioquest Dragonfly Black for £90, you can use this portably with a smart phone too so has the benefit of mobility whether at home or not.

Best headset I've owned hands down, everything is on point.
Just checked Amazon though and prices are back to £70-75. I'd recommend setting a camelcamelcamel alert at £65 as they fluctuate regularly. For reference I paid £59.99 for mine, but I'd still be happy if I'd paid £80-90 in terms of their sound, quality and comfort, especially given the USB soundcard and 7.1 pseudo-surround adapter.

+1 I bought mine on day one from Kingston stall for £72. I'm sure a friend bought these for £40 on amazon black friday a few months later. FYI - My mic stopped working on Win 10 suddenly, called up RMA (which is based in SW london), they sent me free mic boom and once that did not fix the issue, they asked me to send the headset back with soundcard (I kept my boom mics and 2 sets of ear muffs and the nice box), next day a brand new one arrives. Didnt even need a receipt. Very tempted to buy Kingston stuff now (SSDs most likely next) as RMA was london based. Never used Astros but if anyone is on the fence, get Cloud II's - no brainer....

Reading the feedback on the Astro's it seems they're woefully incapable of addressing the issue and seem to be lacking in after sales. No direct experience of mine, but it's worth noting.
If anybody is unaware of headphones amps/dac's, here's an recent article which might draw attention to them:
I have an audioquest which travels with me to the office, and I use my HyperX USB sound card on my PC. It will transform even a mediocre set of headphones through an average source, well worth investing in.
