The original one is much faster with watchOS3 (I have one), and this is a great price for it. The difference between this one and the new Series 1 is the dual core processor, but as far as I know, there's no suggesting how much of a performance improvement this is. This is a cracking price for the original watches, and there's definitely a huge speed increase with watchSO3, so it's still a very good buy.

the new series 1 in apple at 269 which has the new cpu; so this is a different watch (series 1)

last Sunday, apple were selling Series 0 in store cambridge for £199 to get rid of stock - not sure if this was the 38 or 42 though

so basically, shops are clearing stock. but a good price if you're not bothered about the new features.

iOS 10 works on iPhone 5 (maybe not well) which is four years old. I don't see why Watch Series 0 won't be supported for some time to come.

This Series Zero (or OG Apple Watch) is still a cracking smartwatch and with WatchOS3 now available for it, gives it a whole new lease of life.

For your information the Series 1 Apple Watch only sees a faster processor compared to Series Zero and you are paying £80 more for that.

If you are in the market for a smartwatch and own an iPhone, then this is a must buy.

One rule you should abide by when buying ANYTHI|NG from apple .... Dont buy the 1st iteration, its either underpowered or untested to some extent. I'm not an apple hater, but I do have a preference to Android, but have had a Nasty iPhone (3) and a well duff original apple TV and an utterly cack apple mini that couldn't hack it after only a year .....

I've got the first gen 38mm and love it. I have just updated it with the new software and have new functionality including a new Minnie Mouse watchface. IMO this watch is worth every penny.

Has anyone got one and use this for running ? It says sports watch but no GPS, which no one appears to have mentioned above, which is surely a no brainer for a sports watch? I can see it is suppose to be intuitive and learns from first of all running with your iphone as well, but it sounds like a guestimate at best.

gave wife 6s and got s7 cus for myself as it's waterproof and far better for me.

I've got a fitbit blaze - which I love more dearly than life itself - but I can't help but be attracted by the apple watch because of it's techy geekery.

Does anyone have them and use them to track steps, calories burnt during exercise, bike riding etc etc.
The Blaze is brilliant at this...but the downside (if you can call it that) is that it only does that. It does have basic messaging and calendar up dates, and even more basic music control of your phone....but my thinking is if the Apple Watch does the exercise bits just as well AND does more interacting with your phone then this new price makes it a good proposition.

Little do people realise this watch cost less than £20 to produce, oh if only people opened their eyes. Sad times.

​I have to say as a fitness tracker I don't really rate the apple watch - but then that isn't it's primary function, It works fairly well with runkeeper but obviously you have to take your phone out with you and the HRM does pick up fairly accurate BPM, but I have had a couple of instances of it crashing after a run and not being able to stop runkeeper on your phone or it losing data which is massively frustrating if you have done a 10 mile PB or any such thing - But then I have done loads of research on fitness tracking watches and have yet to find one that is 100% perfect - like any apple product, what it does, it does flawlessly and works 99% of the time but the fitness tracking side of it is limited IMO

Potted shrubbery costs less than a quid to buy, nurture and grow, and can then sell for up to £15.

Have you compared it to the Fitbit range - Alta or Blaze?

I really do love the Blaze, but it's also far from perfect (it doesn't count steps 100% accurately, it's sleep monitoring is often hours out, and some exercise it marks as walking whether it was running or elliptical).
If the Apple Watch is "as good" at the fitness tracking then it makes it on the whole better.

And GPS which is the main game changer and water resistance

The Blaze lasts for about 4 days, but it's really good at getting bursts of battery charge.
I've not had it off my wrist for longer than 20 minutes or so every morning to have a shower....and that 20 minutes is enough to keep it charged.

I've tried android wear and own an apple watch. The Apple watch is just miles better and can do loads more. Even though I'm using a S7 Edge I still use mine for Apple pay and fitness! I'm going to buy the new version too as it's the only decent smart watch that's properly waterproof and I want to use it to monitor swimming.

Let's say Apple make £89 profit on this watch then at a tax rate of 0.005%, every purchase means Ireland just got 1/2 cent.

I take my watch off at night anyway so charging isn't an issue for me.

I've got an original watch, now running Watch OS 3 (updated yesterday). It runs fine. I think it's quicker than it was on the old OS. I'm very happy with it and personally wouldn't pay nearly £80 more (vs the Curry's deal here) for the series 1 watch.

Wanted to get the Rose Good for my wife but it's not in stock in any stores I can think of :disappointed:

In all honesty, does anyone know someone who bought one close to the release date who still uses it? I don't. They were sold on or put in a draw within maybe 15 weeks. In comparison I know a few people who have been using droid wear watches, a couple pebble owners and a few cheap chinese smart watches who've been using them for months.

Having used the original one, it is a laggy mess with terrible battery life. At least with the new one (series 1 and 2) you get a half-decent CPU and features running smoothly as intended - I'll let the battery life slide as no true smartwatch has good battery life apart from 'not-as-smart' watches from Garmin.

​Keep going mate, hopefully these opinionated tools will p*** off. I'm predominantly an iOS user but enjoy using some Android products too. Really can't understand why they care so much about what other people want to spend their money on...

In all honesty - i have just unwrapped my series 2 and its really not much faster than a series 0. Since this is the only change apple has made (changed the system on a chip - basically the processor) its almost a no brainer. like others have said stock clearance can sometimes be a good thing.

If your other half is a big apple techie he will disappointed if he finds out (yesterdays tech and all that) but, he probably won't even notice, if you don't tell him :wink:

Wow, that is some solid proof there. I'm actually wearing one as we speak but I'm inclined to put it in a drawer now I realise I'm such an odd-one-out.

The funny thing is, I bought my wife a Moto 360 2nd gen rose gold (with rose gold strap) on release as she loved the look of it. Cost me nearly £300 and you know what...its sat in the dock on her dresser pretty much ever since. I guess experiences differ, hey.

I agree but, in a straight comparison between series 0 and 1 then just the processor at play here. My series 2 I don't see a huge speed improvement, although the GPS could be working away in the background although I seem to remember it being assisted GPS that meaning that it uses wifi to triangulate whilst the GPS is powering up...

If im not mistaken I think this 'Series 0' has been kinda discontinued by Apple, they're calling the new Series 1 'the 1st' Apple Watch, which means come watchOS 4, this (Series 0) will probably not support it

i read a review from someone who had bought this from new and worn it for a year. he realised he couldnt find much use for it and when he gave it up, all he missed was the little weather notification in the top corner!

Skipping all the nonsense, great deal once you are on watch os3. Makes all the difference. I'm sure the upgrade CPU version is great, but my original with upgraded os is now a pleasure to use rather than a quirky gadget (which worked. But unlike other Apple product, was hard work)

When I went to collect it this evening I asked if they had any others in stock. The manager who served me looked on the till and there were 5 others in stock that weren't showing online. Might be worth an ask! I ended up getting the Rose Gold 38mm which is what I originally wanted :smiley:

They've sneakily got you another way though. Unless it's a bug, Apple watch 2, pairs with IOS9 devices... but doesn't activate. Then the pairing gets removed too. So if you want an apple watch 2, it seems you have to upgrade iOS. It's a watch ffs, they really have you by the proverbial balls if you don't want to upgrade but want the next gen watch.

Me...I still use mine for Apple Pay and at the gym. I've got a pebble too but there is just no comparison.

Has anyone asked John Lewis to price match? (only on the ones still available for delivery). I'm interested because that means a quicker delivery date (collect tomorrow) and a 2 year warranty.

A month ago this was rated as one of the best smart watches. Never read a review complaining about processing speed. This is great value.

Just collected one at Currys in Shrewsbury following reservation yesterday . Contacted John Lewis yesterday as their price was £259.99 to see if they would match the Currys £189.99 .

Just so you guys know, Apple stores are price matching Currys, and by doing the price match it was £5 cheaper. Got the 42mm for £224.99. You need to ask them when you're in there.

Voted hot but think New pebble 2 better. Mine has been dispatched via Kickstarter $99 plus delivery and tax. Has 7 day battery life, heart rate monitor etc. Okay so no touchscreen but on my 9 month old pebble steel I can reply with canned messages to texts sent to my Iphone, view basic emails, see who's calling me etc and it's fully waterproof. The new pebble apparently is much improved, with built in mic and is also waterproof. I love the fitness tracking on my pebble steel uses UP or Misfit and links to IOS apple health app. Fav app tide aware gives tide tables. Battery life is the winner here. Low tech equals good tech.

I don't wear a watch. My partner has an iPhone and loves the 42mm Apple watch - especially for the fitness features. The new watch (not this one) is waterproof and has lots of swimming fitness features.
I've use both Android and iPhone (work/personal) but prefer iPhone. I tend to pay extra for things I use a lot like phones, appliances and so on as I think it's worth it in the long run. I hunt for bargains on clothes and products where there's competition between retailers. If I was cash poor then I'd be less fussy.

I love mine. it can last up to 10 hours on 1 charge and you can buy battery packs to attach to your wrist for an even longer charge.
the processor is so fast, you can switch between views within 2 seconds. and you can buy special covers to get past how easily it scratches.

I'm looking at picking an Apple Watch up and came across this deal, which seems like an exceptional price! Is there much of a difference between this model and the new series 1/2? Or is it worth getting this for £100-200 cheaper?

Seems the person mistakenly compared it to the price of the Series 1. Doubt ASA would entertain your complaint.

Might be a good idea to look at comparisons on review sites but..

Do you need waterproof (shower, swimming) and gps (so you can use it when you don't have phone). Do you want the faster processor to (probably) increase the longevity of the watch and improve performance performance by a noticeable if not significant amount?

If both, series 2. If only the latter, series 1. If not fussed about either then this is probably a good choice considering the price difference.

Waterproof doesn't really matter as I no longer swim as much and remove jewellery to shower anyway. And after looking I don't think I'd pay the £399 for the series 2 so it would be between series 1 and this one, and I believe the only difference is the speed of the processor? I have read somewhere that people running watch os3 on the original Apple Watch has seen the speed increased massively.

So is an Apple Watch original running os3 still a lot slower than a series 1? £70 difference isn't too much of a problem as long as there is a noticeable difference.

John Lewis have replied to my two price match requests. For the first one (saying I haven't ordered yet) they said yes we can match. For the second (I have already ordered please match) they said currys is out of stock. Funny that the website still shows stock at curry's. I've replied to let then know.

The way dreggy freeloaders have abused the John Lewis system over the years it's a miracle they're still going.

An educated guess says 75% of John Lewis's once in a blue moon punters are the type that wouldn't even buy a sarnie in Waitrose because they consider it too pricey.

Shame John Lewis Group don't have a system that looks after the regulars and launches the spongers down the road when it comes to price promise in exceptional circumstances like this.

Yeah I believe that's the only difference. I've just purchased the first version and happy with it. I have read the same about watchOS 3 making a big improvement and it's one of the things that prompted me to buy. Perhaps when you've used the S1 you'd notice a difference but I don't plan to do that!

Are you running watch os3 on it? And if so does it feel fluid and responsive to you? Also which size did you go for? I'm the same, I plan on just buying the one so I won't know the difference either!

Apps in the dock (where you can store 10 apps) load instantly, with data already refreshed. It's very snappy to load and close these. The non dock apps take a couple of seconds to load, not long enough to be a huge problem, but long enough that if you were showing the watch off to a friend you'd avoid loading non docked apps. Weirdly no Facebook app and no gmail app. You still get alerts from both if you want, but you can't open messages that have been previously sent. Emails are so short that you rely can't read the message, it's not much more than the subject line that's sent to your watch.

I've had an email today saying that they will price match. Email just says.... we're never knowingly undersold blah blah blah. But it from JL, when you know you're going to keep it, email us back and we'll refund you the difference. Etc etc....

By the way, how do I unexpire this. Currys still have stock for delivery on 6 styles that are reduced, that's more than yesterday!

Yes I am and I would echo ec9wrr's comments about the responsiveness. I am happy with it. Went for 42mm - I would recommend trying one if possible to make sure you get the right size.

Got one from Currys on Friday. Wife saw it and wanted one but by then OOS at our local store. Asked John Lewis to price match and got a reply next day saying no as OOS at Currys...I rang up to say technically it's not OOS as it says available to collect - she agreed but said her limit was £50, so would update the case and they'd get back to me. Got an email yesterday saying yes to £189 (as mentioned above, you pay £259 and then get £70 refund) so wife is a very happy owner of a rose gold & lavender watch :smile:

Profits are down year on year but they're not losing millions. They made almost £82m profit in the last 6 months. (sorry for being pedantic, I just think a great British retailer making decent profits and increasing staff pay should be recognised)

Was instore John Lewis (Cardiff) who happily price matched for me, the lady called Currys to confirm they had stock (even though the website only said Collect instore) and she came back and sorted straight away.

WatchOS3 is fast, responsive and i'm pretty happy with it!

The reason they're losing millions is because they've been too good to dreggy punters who don't deserve it for far too long, shame they ain't a bit more ruthless and sent the sponging vermin on their way a bit more often!

I got a lot of time for John Lewis/Waitrose as they're one of the last big firms who do look after their staff and their punters, being so decent looks like it could well end up costing them dear.

And to think gobby nomarks who are too tight to ever even buy some essentials in Waitrose have got the front to slate them out for not price matching something that is clearly an exceptional circumstances sell off........proper liberty, big time!

I don't like scratchers, I especially include those dinlows who drive around in retarded big motors up to their eyeballs in finance to do so who then go to Aldi to do their food shopping......very much the type you talk about sucking harder.

Invariably you also have the ethics warrior scratchers who don't buy off Amazon because of their tax policies and how they treat their Wallachian warehouse staff in Bad Hersfeld but then choose to suck hardest on a reputable firm who do have ethical tax aspirations and treat their staff better than any other large retailer on the British high street, yep this mob are very much of that ilk too.

These are two of the types of dinlow customer who milk the John Lewis model to the max without ever spending more than two bob who'll also be the first to be whining and ranting were they to go under. Oh hang on they already are crying in here because they won't price match something absolutely nobody else seems willing to price match either.

Nothing about holding shares in anyone, just simply recognising a decent firm and recognising two bob monkey consumers who invest the least in that firm, yet take out the most thus leeching off those of us who do spend proper money in Waitrose week after week and with John Lewis regularly too.

No bias from me, I just find it bizarre when people say things like "You're not allowed to vote cold because technically it's the cheapest price out there". It makes no difference if it's the cheapest price, if that price is still £100 too much.

I managed to get one from JL by taking in proof of purchase from curry's.

I was near a curry's, thought I'd check if they had any in stock. 2 white 38mm left, bought one for 189. Took receipt into nearby JL, guy initially tried to say they weren't like for like products because theirs came with a 2 year warranty. A few words with his manager cleared this up.

After buying same watch same price from JL, returned curry's watch back.

That's dedication for an extra years warranty!
