FWIW: I have three and all are very quiet.( one in a PCH-A210 and two in a HTPC). Not the fastest by any means but that's not the intention. HDD preferences are largely subjective and prone to intense debate on HUKD but these are low energy and run cool and quiet for me.

Rubbish ! I have two E300 3TB drives - both are very quiet and run cool. The P300 7200rpm performance drives will be noisier and run hotter although probably not as much as the WD Black 2TB drives I have, which do sound like a pigeon clay shooting event !

Where ever you read that they where talking utter rubbish as i bought mine back in jan or maybe feb for the same price and it's quieter that all my other HD - my 2x 2TB WD black i bought in 2015,as well as my 4x 1 & 2TB Samsung Spin Point F1 & f2 from 2008+ which where known to be very quit when they where released.
When all my other HD go into sleep mode you can easily hear them spin up once you access them but my Tosh is silent when it does the same.

It's the X300 which are 'noisy' and then people say it about all Toshiba's drives. They do chatter like something out of the 90s. But then they are the fastest ones in Toshiba's series.

Hate there heavy 3.5 drives. Wish it was light weight 2.5 hdd.

Did nobody tell you that your not supposed to carry desk top pc's around with you like a laptop? If you want a 2.5 drive you can easily get a portable 2tb for the same price or less,Or a 4tb for about the same price as a 3.5 inch drive.
Thanks OP. Voted hot.
I now use Toshiba as main choice of HDD due to experiences with other makes
