That was my query too - only the maplins website says they are 4K compatible. Although it does say life time warranty in the top right hand corner of the packaging.

The 0.75m cables for 46p are back in stock for click and collect:
Mine also were not flat but Iam not fussed. My only concern is nothing on the box to suggest what HDMI cables they are..1.3, 1.4 or 2.0. Nothing also about being 4K compatible

I ordered 10 as such a good price but when they came they were not the flat ones it has the same code on the Marlins bill and on the box L71BL they are not flat leads but still a good price at under £1 for a 1.5 mtg HDMI lead

You keep confusing the HDMI protocol itself with the cables required to carry the protocol - the HDMI 2.0 protocol does not require HDMI 2.0 cables - it works perfectly well over HDMI High Speed (aka 1.4) cables.

It only give 8bit colour wheres 2.0 give 10 and 12 bit colour which will give a better picture.
Just as important as the higher frame rates for Ultra HD/4K HDMI 2.0 enables, the extra bandwidth also means HDMI is able to transport 4K video at 10-bit and 12-bit colour depths. With HDMI 1.4 it was limited to 8-bit.

Are 4K cables backward compatible? I.E with coaxial 1.1 , 1.2 or Péritel 1.0
brookheather
2 Oct 16#63
NO - HDMI 2.0 only requires HDMI 1.4 cables - it is compatible - so you can send 4K @ 60Hz with any HDMI 1.4 cable.
TwoRice
2 Oct 16#62
Most only compatible at 30fps, you'll need a HDMI 2.0 or Display Port to properly support 4K
TwoRice
2 Oct 16#61
if these are HDMI 1.4 which they most likely are then they only support 4K at 30fps so its worth getting either an HDMI 2.0 or Display Port for 4K displays
brookheather
2 Oct 16#60
As I already said HDMI 2.0 uses existing HDMI 1.4 cables (officially known as HDMI High Speed) - there is currently no certified cable standard above High Speed.
I have 2.0 hdmi cables and yes you dont need to update to them as 1.4 cable will work for now but 2.0 is future prof with HDR and higher steram 4K and 6K and even 8K.
brookheather
2 Oct 16#57
No such thing as an HDMI 2.0 cable - the HDMI 2.0 signal works over existing HDMI 1.4 (High Speed certified) cables:

No. They're really not.
While I agree that a £1 cable can be just as good as a £50 cable, there is a revision history with HDMI and a 5 year old cable (even if it's one of those stupid £90 Monster ones) won't necessarily handle 4k.
If you've bought a 4k TV, then you should really take the few seconds to make sure that the cable can handle the signal.
Personally I've just bought 4 of these for my new 4k TV, even though the only 4k source I have is my Xbox One S and that came with a 4k ready cable in the box!

The 1.4 hdmi are the old ones and have been for sometime, the new ones are 2.0, if these arent 2.0 it wont guarantee smooth 4K play back.

Bit on the thin side for my liking, i like them with a bit more shielding as they can interfere with the reception of the freeview hd signals on my humax box

Not true - I recently had to replace an HDMI cable that couldn't send 1080p with Deep Colour enabled which is less bandwidth than 4K.

Just thought i'd mention that the only thing that really matters is the quality of the cable not the price, as suggested by brook earlier, no need for cables stating 4k or 2.0 standards if the cable is good its good, cheap copper can cause sparkling (white sporadic dots on screen due to no data being transmitted). Also poor insulation if running next to power cables can also cause interference, but the beauty is it will either work or it wont, good find op

Cheers Op! Ordered 2! out of stock currently in my local store but will be available in 3 days.
The replacement 3m HDMI 1.4 cable I bought was only £3 and worked fine so yes cheap cables can be perfectly good but equally some cables may struggle above 1080p resolutions. The problem is with longer runs like 3m the signal can attenuate more in cables with thinner (cheaper) copper wires.

I checked, out of stock in local store but buy online n have to wait three days, worked on the 1.5m only.
Will these help with the lag I seem to get with my PS4 playing on my 4K tv ?
brookheather to lukeDduke
1 Oct 162#27
No - you need to use a game mode if possible on the 4K TV which will reduce the amount of picture processing at the expense of some image quality.
that's interesting. when i ordered last night night, checking the stock in-store said they didn't have any anywhere.
now when i check it again, it's telling me they have thirty in stock in my local store. but then for this price, i don't mind picking up another couple on top of the ones i've got coming I suppose. can always go in the cable drawer as spares.

No some HDMI cables can struggle with resolutions above 1080p - I recently had to replace a 3m HDMI cable that had "sparkles" when playing [email protected] with Deep Colour enabled - changing to a new HDMI 1.4 cable sorted the problem. A 4K signal will require significantly more bandwidth than a 1080p signal and so very cheap cables may not be able to cope.
