21 nights exploring Thailand for just £706.76 each including all flights, luggage boats and hotels.
I've based this trip on 2 adults flying out of Heathrow on 17th October returning 7th November. You will be flying out with Qatar and all internal flights also include checked in luggage.
This trip is a very busy trip so be prepared for a lot of travelling! The places I have included in this trip are Bangkok, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao, Koh Samui, Phuket and Phi Phi Islands!
All the hotels I've chosen have private bathrooms and excellent reviews on TripAdvisor.
The best way to get from the airports/ports is by local taxi as they're super cheap.
Trip itinerary
17th - 22nd October
You will be leaving for Bangkok on the 17th October and landing early morning on the 18th. You will have 4 nights and 4 full days here before heading to Koh Phangan. I've chosen the 3* The Step Sathon as it has excellent location.
22nd October
In the evening you'll be flying to Surat Thani and staying here before catching the ferry the next morning. I've chosen the 3* The Centrino Serviced Residence as it is centrally located and a good place for you to catch the bus to the ferry in the morning!
23rd - 26th October
The transport for the ferry will pick you up from the new bus terminal and you'll arrive in Koh Phangan around midday. I've chosen the 3* Ban Tai Resort and you will be here for 3 nights..
26th - 29th October
Early morning you'll catch the short 1 hour ferry over to Koh Tao for 3 nights. I've chosen the 3* In Touch Resort.
29th - 31st October
Early morning you'll catch the 2 hour ferry from Koh Tao to Koh Samui where you'll spend 2 nights. I've chosen the 3* Lamoon Lamai Residence.
31st October - 3rd November
You'll be flying out of Koh Samui to Phuket on a short 1 hour flight. You will land in Phuket just after 9am. I've chosen the 3* Capannin Inn which is located in Kata. You will be staying here for 3 nights
3rd - 6th November
You'll head out to Phi Phi on the ferry which will take around 2 hours and you'll arrive there mid morning. I've chosen the 3* Ivory Phi Phi Island for you to stay in for 3 nights.
6th - 7th November
You will be getting the ferry back to Phuket around 1630, from here catch a taxi to the airport to head back to Bangkok for the final night. I've chosen the 3* Royal Bee Apartment as its close to the airport. The flight is in the late evening from Bangkok home so you'll have another day to spend in Bangkok.

Bangkok is a must, it's so beautiful, so many gorgeous temples and great food!
Phi phi islands are amazing, arriving into the harbour is unforgettable, the colour of the water is unreal! We did a maya bay sunset excursion it was one of the best things I've ever done, we were literally the last ones on the beach and we got to night snorkel with the bioluminescent plankton, it looked like a million shooting stars underwater, recommend that! Railay beach is gorgeous, a little touristy but nice!
Grab some island hopping day trip from krabi or phi phi there are some amazing secluded islands.
Phuket is nice if you stay away from Patong! We stayed in Karon, beach was lovely!
Head upto Chiang Mai and visit the elephant sanctaury, make sure you visit the ones that rescue the elephants, you get to feed and bath them, it costs a fair few £££ but it's worth it, don't visit the tiger temple or do any elephant rides because the animals are very poorly treated! Chiang mai city itself is beautiful too!
These are the only places I've visited in Thailand, still have a lot to explore!

Seems you have done some good research and you have a nice variety of things lined up. I have a few pieces of advice for people going to Thailand in general.
1) Never, ever get in a fight with locals. Verbal or physical. It is a known fact that Thai's do not fight fair and at the very least they will attack in packs and at worst they do not hesitate to use weapons, of which Thailand is inundated.
2) Think twice before hiring mopeds on the islands. Many westerners arrive and see everyone on mopeds, no helmets enjoying the freedom but Thailand has the 2nd worst road death figures in the world and the majority are horrific motor cycle accidents. Thais are horrific drivers as it is, often drink driving. Throw in the mix a westerner on a moped who doesn't really know how the roads work there and devastating accidents are never far away.
3) Triple check you have complete, full insurance. You will be left with life changing medical bills if you are not fully covered. The hospitals are on par if not better than back in the UK, but make no mistakes it costs you. Full insurance, no exceptions.
4) DO NOT TO DRUGS IN THAILAND. You may see the locals smoking a J on the Sabai Sabai bars of Koh Lanta but the rules are very different for foreigners. Foreigners are made an example of pure and simple and you never know which Police can be paid off.
5) Research the cultural taboos and always be respectful. You often see the stereotypical tourist - Chang vest, flip flops, feet up against the BTS pole talking and laughing loudly. Most important to remember:
- Never talk about, discuss, or ask about the monarchy, even if in a good light. Simply avoid anything to do with it. This is too complicated to explain here.
- Never argue or raise your voice in anger. Thais see this as a massive loss of face and will view it as child like behaviour. Always remain calm despite the crazy things that can occur.
- Do not touch things, point with or show the soles of your feet. Don't put them on a chair or up on something to rest. Feet are seen as lowest / most impure part of the body in Buddhism.
- When the national anthem / kings song plays (before movies, 8:00 am and 6:00pm on public) stand, don't talk and wait until the Thais start moving again.
6) Think hard and long before deciding to rent and drive a car in Thailand. Thais are absolutely appalling drivers. They drive fast, in any lane and expect you to move out the way instantly. They do not 'let people out' and will literally stop in the middle of a road just to pick up some Som Tam from a street seller. Over holiday seasons an obscene amount are drunk driving. Despite all this never EVER beep in anger or gesture out a window, there is a high possibility of severe road rage and at worst a gun being pulled from the car.
7) If you are a guy visiting Thailand for the Thai Girls be very alert. Do not start to convince yourself that a beautiful 24 year old can fall in love with a 40+ year old man with a beer belly. Thai ladies are beautiful, but they are ruthless. Thailand is a developing country despite what they may think and as such money and wealth mean everything. They will rinse a naive foreigner in a matter of days / weeks and I am talking about life savings. Be realistic!
This is a very, very short essentials list. Thailand is not the dream paradise many think and with the recent economic hardships and political situation there foreign sentiment is at an all time low. People are much more volatile and following some of the advice above will minimise risk. Keep your head down, smile, don't argue, walk away from any conflict, don't get too drunk, avoid any issues with police and mafia and you will have a nice time.
Stay safe

I'm not convinced by that video. Around 1m 20sec when the woman is punched and then on the floor she tries to get up and is kicked it all looks a bit theatrical.
I can't think of any reason why it would be fake but the woman gets punched in the mouth yet she doesn't raise her arms at all as a reaction before, during or after. When she's kicked in the head the leg seems to miss her and she just shakes her head like an old Van Damme film

7 Sep 161#151
The Thais were drunk and itching for some trouble, and that means Farangs, ie foreigners.
Expats wouldn't have done what the elderly woman did, they know the score.
The woman objected to her son being barged over who banged his head on the floor and remonstrated with the Thai and slapped his face.
There will only be one outcome when that happens, elderly women or not.
Thai slapped= Thai made to lose face/look stupid= terrible beating to whoever was responsible.
When this happens its him, all his mates and if things arnt going well then other bystanders until the recipients are subdued.
Face regained=result.
Outcome badly beeten tourists, if this hadn't been filmed they would have been taken to hospital, a police report made and that would have been the end of it, the police wouldn't have cared less, just more farangs been put in their place.
Happens up and down the country daily.
Moral is do you research, put yourself in their shoes, a drunk Thai barges into you walk away quickly.
Or just believe its the safest place on earth and behave as you would normaly.

You see mate that's the problem, your comparing it with inner city **** holes in the UK, and you shouldn't be.
Your a tourist in a tourist area and part and parcel of being there is you ought to be safe, be able to feel safe, be able to rely on the police if needed, etc, etc.
I have been many times, lived there and never had a spot of bother either, but I have seen first hand lots who have.
Anyone travelling abroad should carefully research where they are going, its irresponsible not to, but just because a few people "have never had any trouble" doesn't make it a safe place.
Im sure people get beaten up in Tenerife as well, but that Hua Hin stuff was the tip of the iceberg, all the authorities are bothered about is hushing up incidents like that, and trust me get in any trouble with the locals and it will be your fault and probably cost you a fortune to get out of it.
The Koh Tao murders, the prime minister actually blames the girl for wearing a bikini, this is the attitude of Thais towards foreigners you are up against.
Its all sabai sabai to your face, but behind the mask you are just a walking cash cow for milking, and resented for being richer than them, never get on the wrong side of a Thai and especially don't try and win an argument/fight or try and make them look stupid, they have a pack mentality as seen in the Hua Hin attack.

Fantastic deal but having hit 60 a bit too fast paced for us. A nice balanced itinerary there.
Did get the Qatar element of the deal a few months ago. Return flights from Bham for £335 for a 30 day stay in Feb/March. Kind of an annual thing now and as usual, can't wait. 5 nights in BKK then driving down south staying a 5 beach resorts finishing up in Khao Lak for a week. Air Asia flights back to Bangkok from Phuket for £33 each. Total for the 2 of us for flights, all hotels on B&B basis, 24 days one way car hire - £2190. As per the OP, do your own planning - much cheaper and so easy.
Safe country? Maybe Stemroach et al are more qualified to comment but I've been there many times since the early 80's and never had a problem anywhere with the locals apart from the occasional attempt to rip you off. Have seen far more problems at night in our city centres.
Hua Hin incident was indeed nasty but I don't believe typical and we have plenty of pensioners beaten up and robbed in this country by our own heroes. Staying in Cha Am on this trip so better keep my head down!!
I love the place and hope to continue going for many more years to come.
BTW If you are a foodie and like Thai take a look at this guy's blog and if you are in Bangkok you MUST go here.
Happy Holidays.

This deal is real value for money. so much thrown in....
Just bear in mind that The Gulf of Thailand (Koh Tao, Phangan and Samui) are just starting their late (Gulf of Thailand) rainy season, serious rain some years from Oct to Dec and Phi Phi and Phuket are just coming to the end of the Andaman sea rainy season... Andamon should be OK but the Gulf can be touch and go........the breakdown also shows £148 for the Bangkok air flight from Samui to Phuket, I would query that, have never paid more than 3100 Thai baht myself which equates to about £65/70 today's rate

Not sure if the mods will allow this to stay, apologies in advance if im breaking the rules.
60 something pensioners in Hua Hin which is considered one of the milder/safer Thai resorts.
If you truly do any research Thailand deaths/Violence against tourists is shocking, do some research before declaring it "safe". Its too late once people have traveled, got into trouble with the locals and have no help whatsoever form the police.
If you knew what i knew you would not so quickly declare a country safe , giving confidence to young travelers who could be heading into a world of pain based on your rose tinted glasses.
Go on, put a positive spin on the pensioners kicked unconscious in Hua Hin, its on youtube, look it up.

Considering the thousands of tourists who go there every year, just a handful of documented cases of violence against tourists seems pretty safe to me.
That's like saying don't ever open a window because of all the thousands of windows opened daily, a handful of burglars have broken in.
All it means is that it's safe enough to do, but of course be sensible when you do it.

Google that also with murder in the sentance.

Take a tip from someone who has lived there, go somewhere else if you value your health,.

Been going to Thailand for years both on my own/with mates/and with family....one of the best holiday destinations going...I love Thai food/people/and the country/culture so much.
I have never done tours(groups)/or followed any list...much preferring to hire a motorbike and travelling wherever I fancy.
Covered all the country except the north east so intend to go there next year...Chaing Mai is superb as is Chaing Rai.
When you get to Thailand for the first time the first thing that hits you is the heat as you exit the airport and the traffic/noise...Bangkok is buzzing...the place never sleeps....Soi Cowboy is worth a visit and I think most folk know about Patpong...lol....but there is so much more to this country than bars/sex clubs/girls/ladyboys.....take the train to Chaing Mai from Bangkok (sleeper and avoid the air con units as they are freezing) and the scenery you enjoy is stunning...great food to be had either on the train or at most places the overnight train stops at...all for bargain prices...as for the beer...most people know about Chang and Singha....but give Leo a go as its usually cheaper and tastes better...food...try Kao Soy Guy (chicken noodle in coconut)...Pak Ka Pow guy(chicken mince with rice cooked with local veg and very tasty)...some of the best and cheapest places to eat are shopping malls (where most Thais and expats eat) for next to nothing prices....just go guys...you will love it.

Hi, hope you don't mind me butting in but thought I could help.
We went to Thailand in November and it was amazing. Our stay in Chiang Mai coincided with Loi Krathong/Yi Peng festival - it was simply amazing. Google the images if you can.
Activities in Chiang Mai were visiting Elephant Nature Park (one where the elephants weren't abused!!), a Thai Cooking Course, trekking for a day in Doi Inthanon National Park with a monk, a night at the Thai Boxing arena.
Down south on the islands is pretty fun too but Phuket and Phi Phi are quite touristy and boozy. The best thing we did down there was a Sea Kayak trip around the Hongs by Starlight with John Gray sea kayak company.
We flew from Bangkok up to Chiang Mai, flew from Chiang Mai to Phuket, boat from Phuket (good as a base for trips and activities) to Phi Phi, boat from Phi Phi (party island) to Krabi, boat from Krabi (stayed at Railay - didn't like it) to Ko Yao Noi (peaceful island).
The north of Thailand was so friendly

INCORRECT.
South Sudan is a very dangerous country. The Congo is a very dangerous country. Pakistan is a very dangerous country.
Thailand is safe everywhere a tourist would set foot, and probably one of the safest SE asian countries (apart from Japan obviously).
It DOES get unsafe in the south near the border with Malaysia, because of the Muslims (yet again), but nobody would have a reason to go there.

Lovely post, and a lot of hard work. But as someone who has spent more time in Thailand this year than the uk, a couple of heads up. Don't book ferry tickets online, get on the day from the pier, they are never sold out and normally 30-50% cheaper than online.
Hotels are okay, but if you chose hotels.com t(same owner as Expedia) they have 14% cash back, and every 10 nights you get 11th might free so kind of like 8% off, or just a flat 8% voucher code.
If you're already spending a lot of time, don't fly from koh samui, so expensive. Get ferry back to mainland and fly. Will take a few hours longer but will save £80-90
Book all flights with Thai lion air and use Edreams. You get luggage allowance and snack on plane.
Phuket there is mini van to and from Airport at 100b from town and 120b from pat pong.
Bangkok there is shuttles for 30b or public bus for 8b but hassle to find. The public ones for first timers.
I booked a light in November to Bangkok with Ukraine air for £150 each way. Don't know if still available. But was cheaper to book two singles.
If you have a spare 2-3 days fly up to Chiang mai. Return flights are around £15 with lion air using above method and you can get a AC mini van into town for 40b (80p). They have some amazing food and very interesting to see the north vs. Beach and party towns of south.

My idea of a nightmare that, getting to a new place and having to leave a couple of days later. In my view you need more time to explore them. For this you need at least another week, or to cut down on places visited. I'd scrap samui and maybe phuket and do less time in bkk as it's a **** lol.

I've forgotten how many times I've been to Thailand (well over 20) it's amazing! This is a great deal if you want an introduction to Thailand. Busy itinerary at a great price! If you have the time and money just do it, you won't regret it. You will see some rain at this time of the year, but it doesn't matter, it's always hot, everything is dry 30 mins after the rain stops. If you did nothing but sunbathe and eat Thai food you'd have an awesome time, but there is SO much more to see and do there. Please take a chance by visiting my favourite country, you will return there again I'm sure!

I was just about to post similar. I book direct through Qatar and for about 200 euro more my journey time to Phuket is about 5 hours less at just over 16 hours and Qatar have a fantastic on time record and the approximately 2 hours change over is just about right.
This deal maybe looks good on the surface but all this charging around for 3 weeks is very tiring and will leave you well worn out at each stop over with little time for the attractions whether temples or ladyboys. The best way I found to get to and from airports is the mini buses, bookable when you get there.

Fabulous deal. We have been going to Thailand for 11 years, usually April or October (classed as low season but cheaper and weather has always been fine, some rain lots of heat and lots of sun). The Thai people are wonderful people specially if you make an effort to connect (lots of tourists complain of lack of English!!! Why go there then?), we have lifelong friends. It's not dangerous!!!what a stupid comment. Do your research and avoid Paying and Pattaya unless that is your thing. Khao Lak is a wonderful area and Bangkok is a must for every visitor. We try to use local facilities, buses, tuk tuks and taxis, etc. It's a wonderful place.

I'd rather pay more to book through a more competent company. Given previous experience of Expedia, their woeful customer service and knowledge of just how bad they are when things go wrong there is no way I'd give them any money.
A quick look through their Facebook or Twitter pages normally gives a peek into current issues. If you do book through them make sure you do it with a credit card so you have a chance of getting your money back and make sure you have enough spare money to book alternative travel and accommodation.

Applies to a lot of places of course. Mexico and Brazil have even worse reputations.
But whereas a lot of it is the muslim minorities doing what they usually do all over the world (targetting western tourists) but there is a rabid antipathy against westerners for NO reason in Thailand apparently and it's getting worse.

No doubt the original poster has put some hard work in to this trip however its simple planning your own.
Just use https://www.skyscanner.net/ for finding cheap flights and http://www.booking.com for hotels https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ forums are useful for planning itineraries but anyone can leave hotel reviews (Owner, friends, family etc)
Best checking the hotel reviews on bookings.com.

Yea I had the same thing happen a couple times when backpacking, I'd read reviews praising the place then get there and I was left wondering why people liked it so much. Just realised you've also said centrino serviced residence in surat thani, I know its only a night to break up journey from bangkok the hotel is quiet nice and newish looking but we had some australian dollars and english pounds stollen from our backpack that we left in the room whilst we walked to the 7/11 down the way from the hotel. When I stayed in 2013 it didnt have any real restaurants near by so you'll need to get a taxi to some. Appart from that the trip sounds amazing and I hope you have a good time Thailand is a great place.

Unless you like Diving going to Koh Tao is a waste of time as the island is totally geared up for that alone.
Ko Phangan and Phi Phi are over run with young kids and are now party islands at night so if your'e over about 25 forget it
I have been visiting for 15 years & its a very dangerous country if you are not careful.
mainly accidents of all manner, but also violence if you are in anyway confrontational, there is a lot of resentment that simmers below the surface.

Oh another tip is to not be afraid of the bus , the ones we used were brilliant.
Overnight sleepers with cabin service  saved on a hotel stay.
Oh and dont hire a bike if you cant ride , i used to race bikes and found it hard, so many people injured on them.
But if you can..... OMG the roads in north Thailand , ribbons of empty tarmac , can hire any bike you want , i had a Ninja and it was perfect for a bit of fun on the open roads , ended up with a Honda PCX scooter type thing , that was perfect too for taking my partner pillion.
Now ive started thinking back , just do it  book that flight

What a weird comment about age
We are in our 50's and did this earlier in the year , took a motorbike and toured the north before island hopping.
Flashpacker i think they call it now , 5 weeks cost around £1500 for two for flights and accomodation and another £1500 spends. We ate and drank out everyday and wouldnt of spent anywhere near as much only for the islands and tours.
Few pointers , phi phi is lovely , we stayed in the treehouses on a quiet part of island and it was bliss  coral right on the private beach and totally silent with lovely fish bar-b-q at night.
Total contrast to the main part of the island but dont write the island off.
Phuket is very expensive , we found a good deal in a colonial hotel in Kantary Bay , was like parachuting into Surrey in the sun , i loved it there , was like fawlty towers.
Better to check out some of the other islands , we liked Koh Lanta and spent a couple of weeks there in the end , you can still just about get beach huts for small money but you can see the big hotel groups taking over.
Sunsets there that you cant even describe , magical and etched into my mind forever.
Damn , this thread has convinced me to go again next year

August is not October which is what the deal states. I've been for the past 3 years at the end of October / November to phuket and the surrounding areas. October it rains too much to enjoy it fully, but about a week into November it clears up significantly.

Ive been to every place in this list this year.
BE WARNED - This is NOT a trip for anyone over 40 years old, or even approaching it.
Bangkok - Great, something for everyone.
Koh Sumai - Fine for a stop over, very touristy, I didn't like it.
Koh Phan Gan - Great for partying, full moon party is good but overrated. Very good for backpackers. Not great if your getting on a bit.
Koh Tao - 95% of people here come for the scuba diving. Very low quality hotels and quite under developed. Great beaches, albeit changing for the worse due to the vast amounts of Chinese tourists that come and ruin it for everyone.
Phi Phi Islands - Nice beaches and some decent hotels. No cars allowed on the island which is nice. LOADS of teenagers on their gap year - I was 30 and felt VERY old. Again this has had its heyday, now it's just for the gap year kids.
Phuket - Huge island, 3 nights isn;'t enough. Has some beautiful parts but avoid Patong unless you're working class and enjoy package holidays to Magaluf.
I would highly recommend you tailor thailand for your personality and age group. Check out Chiang Rai in the north, its worth the trip and has a better vibe than phi phi / sumai.

Opening post

Any one been around this time or know what weather to expect, have heard it's the monsoon season :disappointed:
Stay safe
Exsqueeze me?
There were interviews on Thai tv of her in Hospital.
I can't think of any reason why it would be fake but the woman gets punched in the mouth yet she doesn't raise her arms at all as a reaction before, during or after. When she's kicked in the head the leg seems to miss her and she just shakes her head like an old Van Damme film
60 something pensioners in Hua Hin which is considered one of the milder/safer Thai resorts.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbn9gxHs2VM&oref=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dhbn9gxHs2VM&has_verified=1
If you knew what i knew you would not so quickly declare a country safe , giving confidence to young travelers who could be heading into a world of pain based on your rose tinted glasses.
Go on, put a positive spin on the pensioners kicked unconscious in Hua Hin, its on youtube, look it up.
That's like saying don't ever open a window because of all the thousands of windows opened daily, a handful of burglars have broken in.
All it means is that it's safe enough to do, but of course be sensible when you do it.
Hve people been living in a cave the last 2 years?
Google murder Koh Tao and see what hits you get, also the In Touch Resort??/
Google that also with murder in the sentance.
Thailand safe for Tourists?
I take it you all didnt see the 70 year old pensioners in Hua Hin a few months ago getting kicked unconscious by the locals.
Take a tip from someone who has lived there, go somewhere else if you value your health,.
I'll be sure to follow the advice for locations thank you. If you have any more advice please do share!
Thanks again.

hmm?
And this crap about "angering locals" is that what you call beating up a pensioner couple and their 48 year old son ?
Nothing like a measured considerate intelligent viewpoint. And yours is just that. Nothing like it

A quick five minute search on Emirates and you would save yourselves a couple of hundred pounds. Flights for the same dates as you chose are just over £400 If you are booking now. Hope you've not booked
This deal maybe looks good on the surface but all this charging around for 3 weeks is very tiring and will leave you well worn out at each stop over with little time for the attractions whether temples or ladyboys. The best way I found to get to and from airports is the mini buses, bookable when you get there.
Thanks for effort op
A quick look through their Facebook or Twitter pages normally gives a peek into current issues. If you do book through them make sure you do it with a credit card so you have a chance of getting your money back and make sure you have enough spare money to book alternative travel and accommodation.
But whereas a lot of it is the muslim minorities doing what they usually do all over the world (targetting western tourists) but there is a rabid antipathy against westerners for NO reason in Thailand apparently and it's getting worse.
Just use https://www.skyscanner.net/ for finding cheap flights and http://www.booking.com for hotels
https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ forums are useful for planning itineraries but anyone can leave hotel reviews (Owner, friends, family etc)
Best checking the hotel reviews on bookings.com.
Ko Phangan and Phi Phi are over run with young kids and are now party islands at night so if your'e over about 25 forget it

mainly accidents of all manner, but also violence if you are in anyway confrontational, there is a lot of resentment that simmers below the surface.
Thailand is next on my list!!!!
If not, still a great trip, I just couldn't be bothered booking it all.
Damn , this thread has convinced me to go again next year
BE WARNED - This is NOT a trip for anyone over 40 years old, or even approaching it.
Great thing about college girls is you get older & they stay the same age.
Age is just a number.
etc.
...but heat from me.
Especially as Heathrow flights rarely take off on time.
X)

I am planning to go in January, just waiting for a cheap flight to pop up! Skyscanner reckons 16-18 weeks before - which is soon, so here is hoping
thanks for the response and the post! Gives me a great base
Really considering it
Such a shame that it's not for us as we have kids going to school during that time.
If you have a personal blog about travelling, pls share it with us.
What's to do in Thailand though?
