Pah, I remember 2 x 4MB ram sticks were £80 a set, oh eye lad, when kids roamed free all day long, where 33.6kbps dial up was the ultimate thrill and soundblaster compatibility was a serious consideration to almost every aspect of computing

Pah! That's bliss compared to what we 'ad. When I were a lad we had nothing but beef dripping for dinner, we used a wet piece of string and some cans as a phone line and would have to head out in the rain, having had only ten minutes sleep and use a bit of a tree and our family goat as a "stick of ram". Them weres the days...

Crucial has always been a brilliant site because you can download there scanner from their web page , which scans your system and tells you what memory you have installed and what is compatible. You can then compare the compatible memory with other sellers , knowing what you now need, with no obligation to buy from Crucial.
With their discount I bought, thanks op .

Was looking for a cheap upgrade for my Microserver which has 1x4GB 1R x8 PC3L-12800E-11 stick of RAM.
The compatibility checker recommends 4GB DDR3-1866 ECC UDIMM which isn't on sale.
Would any of the 4GB sticks in this offer be a suitable alternative?

The AMD based servers take non-ECC ram too. They may even allow mixing with existing ECC ram but you will need to google for confirmation since it has been a while since I bought ram for mine. I believe the G8 series is fussier.

Had some trouble paying with my debit card, money was taken but no confirmation, so I did a live chat and they reckon a glitch was the cause and my money will be returned in 3-5 days! Not happy.

Ok deal if you're a PC owner but pointless if like me you own a Mac. Zero offers on any 8GB modules! Anyone who want extra RAM for a Mac should only be buying the 8GB sticks!

Can't remember what I paid for my 16kb ram pack on my ZX81, which had to be pushed into the back of the computer and used to fall out usually when I was half way through something.

You kids today… don't know you're born!
I remember paying £50 for a 512KB RAM upgrade to my Amiga - that's Kilobtytes - half a megabyte!
The only difference it made was that on the PGA Golf game, there were now bird tweeting sound effects.

£85 for 4MB for my ancient Escom desktop back in the day and that was from a computer fair, so was cheaper than retail. Later, I paid £125 for an 8MB stick from some student, who even had a memory testing rig on a window sill in his kitchen. I felt as if I was buying from some minor drug dealer.

Our first modem was 9.6k. Then 14.4 and then the shiny us robotics 56k v90 modem. We briefly had dual channel ISDnN too. Then we went up in the world as we trialled telewest 512k cable. I remember all my friends in awe downloading songs in minutes from Napster

By gum lad, tha's nowt but a whippersnapper! I remember paying £50 for each 4Mb stick - I bought 4 of 'em for £200 second hand, and then I reckoned I got a bargain.
As for modems, 33.6kbps was only yesterday. Try going back to a 9.600 modem, and having to communicate with an 'ancient' 2.400 one. That was fun!
Aye, then we're days...
