Is this a really good deal ? I've not decorated an apartment in years.. .place needs done.. want silk pure brilliant white for all the walls and good gloss for skirting doors but so many to choose from.. a tad lost... looked at wilko and dulux and crown but all reviews tend to fight with each other :S

Seems excellent deal to me, can pay a lot more for it, especially online where delivery costs have to be factored in but with prime it's just £8 delivered...

Good price but this is water based gloss. Unless you have issues preventing you from using oil based paints i would avoid this. Buy dulux once oil based gloss instead.

Oil based paints (especially whites) will yellow over time. This is a known limitation of the paint - i.e. the (oil-based) Dulux Trade Eggshell page has a note to this effect, whilst the (water-based) Dulux Trade Diamond Eggshell does not.
The previous owners of our house painted all of the trim in our house shortly before sale. In the rooms with lesser amounts of sunlight, these had all yellowed within 6-12 months.
I have since painted over with Dulux Trade Diamond Eggshell, and am hoping that although the paint was admittedly more expensive than the oil variant, it will have saved me time in having to re-do it a year or two down the line!

Nope dulux white gloss goes Yellow if it doesnt get enough sunlight, it even says on the tin in really small writing.

This looks like the water based gloss that Dulux make which i have tried and it is rubbish, doesn't coat / clean or last as well as the solvent based version.

Best gloss I found was Dulux Trade Gloss. A little more expensive but goes on great. Screwfix normally stock.

Hmmm. Imagining now the oversize box, with a bit of paper scrunched up inside, being thrown around by Yodel or whoever. Not going to finish well.... like this water based gloss.
i bought the non quick dry version of this and have to say it's excellent, with a decent brush you get a lovely crisp white finish that is smooth as a babies backside, absolutely perfect for door frames, skirting etc. I used the wickes satin before this which left a really rough / ridged finish and this is far superior. I didn't go for the quick drying as I read some reviews which said it dries with bubbles.

Just been doing up house and used both dulux and the own branded B&M Bargains gloss which was half the price of dulux. Much prefered the cheaper one which surprised me!

pro painter and decorator here, theres no oil-based gloss that stays white now for any length of time unless its used outside or in rooms wheres theres tonnes of natural light, even then the skirtings behind sofa's etc will begin to turn yellow after a few months
At first the water based glosses were pretty poor but as times moved on they have improved, the best one out there is Johnson's Aquatec it gives great coverage and shine and stays wet and workable quite a bit longer to allow you to do awkward time consuming areas that other water based glosses dont allow as they dry too fast showing all the brushmarks etc
Just to summarise, white oil based gloss only good for outside where it will stay white for longer, Johnsons Aqua-tec for everything else, thank me in a yr or two's time when your cheap b&q 6 panel doors are still nice and white

My father has been a painter and decorator for 50 years so my views are probably based more on his. If :smiley: i bought him water based gloss he would be sending me back to change it.
I have not tried water based for a few years but after reading your comments i am curious to give it another go but sceptical that it will give the same glass like finish that oil based does.

I'd recommend Crown trade fastflow water based, if your looking for a high quality, long lasting and similar results to oil based. But stays white, and easy on the environment and clean up. Water based paints are a lot better than they used to be.
As for brexit, if we leave the eu we may get the good oil based paint back :smiley:

Everyone always has different opinions for sure nothing wrong with that, but as someone who has used most water based products over the years I can pretty much guarantee your dad would be impressed with the Aqua-tec both in use and finish, get him a tin for his birthday and watch your mums face light up!
