Guys I could spend 20 mins explaining whilst psvr will be a very big hit, as there seems to be some very misinformed folks on here.
Btw I'm a uk gaming podcaster with a Show that's been going 11 years now.
The time is right for psvr, pricepoint is fair, my ONLY question on the whole thing is sonys marketing plan is a tad sketchy, slim, VR, and Pro all in space of 3 months is a very bold and brave move.

Having been reporting on psvr for a long time now, I can safely say it's a tech for now, and dim just going to say 1 thing and 1 thing only....never ever has anything in the gaming industry released been an absolute 100% "MUST" try before passing any comment at all.

I've covered a hell of a lot of gaming tech in my 30+ years as a games journalist , and never has anything been a must Hands on before you pass any judgment.

I'll say this, if you are anything close to calling yourself a gamer....you will fail to not be extremly impressed once YOU put on the psvr headset, it is an amazing new experience, that in my time gaming right now has been crying out for some new gaming revlolution.
The Wii broke ground with the Wimote control system.....believe me when I say psvr , you will be impressed.

Btw, the Scorpio is a long way off yet, it was a MS marketing ploy at the time, and a very strange reveal at E3, and I can assure you it will be at least £500, if not more.

lol I have spent 20 mins explaining .......just enjoy VR guys it's a great new VR experience.

There's enough misinformation on HUKD as it is, please don't go adding more. What guarantee do you have? Here's a list of games being patched for PSVR:

Attractio [Free w/ Original Game Purchase]
Bound [Free w/ Original Game Purchase]
Catlateral Damage [Free w/ Original Game Purchase]
Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 [Free w/ Original Game Purchase]
Driveclub VR ["New" game, doesn't require Driveclub but discount offered to Driveclub Season Pass owners]
Filthy Lucre [VR Patched] [Free w/ Original Game Purchase]
Final Fantasy XV VR Mode [TBC]
Futuridium EP Deluxe VR [Free w/ Original Game Purchase]
Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA X [Free w/ Original Game Purchase]
Hustle Kings VR [Discount w/ Original Hustle Kings Mega Pack]
Hyper Void [Free w/ Original Game Purchase]
Nebulous [Free w/ Original Game Purchase]
PlayRoom VR [Free w/PS4]
Star Wars: Rogue One X-Wing VR [VR DLC] [Free w/ Original Game Purchase]
Super Stardust Ultra VR [Discount w/ Original Game Purchase]
Trackmania Turbo [November 8] [Free w/ Original Game Purchase]
VEV: Viva Ex Vivo [Free w/ Original Game Purchase]
Volume: Coda [Free w/ Original Game Purchase]

2, possibly 3 out of 18 that require spending extra. I know that we're living in times of greedy publishers with DLC etc but I can't see developers asking for extra money to access VR features in games that aren't even out yet.

Apart from an initial wow factor, I think people will soon grow tired of strapping something to their heads for hours on end.Like 3D and the stupid glasses the thought of gaming with something strapped to my head for 2 or 3 hours sounds awful.

Vive is obviously the better experience and tech. But that price point and the requirements to run it, it's going to be the minority device in this market.

Seems easier for people to convert games to vr on pc - so I doubt it would die as quick... ps4 want a lot of money for every conversion etc
marky489
30 Sep 16 1 #12
My mate built a pc good enough to run vr for £350 plus the vive £650 = £1000 total. Still a lot of money but it is an amazing setup and you certainly don't have to spend 2-3k. The jury's still out on the psvr although I'm hopefully optimistic... if it's anything near as good as the vive it won't be a flop. The technology's there and people are ready for it!

I'm skipping VR and PS Pro as I'm saving up for Project Scorpio as it will probably have an Ultra HD Blu-ray player and have native 4K games.
schnide to stupot76
1 Oct 16 #15
Ultra HD player? People still buy discs for movies?

And Eurogamer threw doubt on Scorpio being able to run games at 4K native today. But at least if you wait for Scorpio, you'll have over a year to save up for it!

(And you'll need to, too)

What are you talking about? This comment comes across as complete nonsense.
chrisredmayne
1 Oct 16 1 #16
what don't you understand ? check your steam account if you have one, I'm getting loads of games just appearing in the vr section.. whereas drive club for example is an extra 35 pound. the usual console every upgrade you have to buy everything again. PC you will get the vr upgrades for free. hope this helps you understand better ...
MichaelGL
1 Oct 16 #17
Let's break it down:

Seems easier for people to convert games to vr on pc - In what way? The PS4 is basically a "weak" PC with good development tools.
so I doubt it would die as quick... - The PSVR is cheaper and the machine required for it was just selling for £150 with a game on Thursday and is already in 30 million + homes. It has the best chance of making VR popular.

ps4 want a lot of money for every conversion etc - Do you have a source on Sony charging developers to put their games on PSVR? It's more like the other way around as they no doubt want this to be a success.

Fair point re: Driveclub but we don't know how much work has gone into that. Trackmania is getting a free PSVR patch after release as are other games.

PC VR has existed since 2013 in the form of Oculus Rift so the PC has had 3 years to build a library of games so there should be plenty of games available.

Last point, PC VR headsets have stopped experiencing sales growth, which is really bad for the Vive especially because it only came out this year. We'll just have to wait and see on PSVR.
hobsgrg
1 Oct 16 3 #18
They won't have built a complete PC from scratch that meets the recommended requirements for VR for £350! The graphics card and processor alone will cost you comfortably more than £350
chrisredmayne
1 Oct 16 #19
But I don't think PC VR relies on sales as much as PlayStation VR does... If there's a solid base for VR on PC I think the community will help it grow, people go out of their way to do incredible mods on PC so I would imagine it would continue like that for VR if there's an interest. Whereas PlayStation have in the past just given up on things like this very quickly and easily. I mean I have the move controllers, even for PS3 there was very little support and nothing on PS4, the camera, what a waste of money that was! About 5 games use it!! I hope its a success on PS4 because that would help all platforms, I've cancelled my pre order until they get proper games for it though, way too many demos= type games now.
haritori
1 Oct 16 3 #20
for £350! I very much doubt that..

Min specs are an i5 & a GTX 970 those two alone are £350.00, now factor in Case, PSU, RAM, HDD/SSD, Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor, OS..

You are aware there are lots of PS4 games that are getting free VR Upgrades, Driveclub adds new content too, and if you owned the Season pass you got a discount.
jouster
1 Oct 16 3 #22
I managed to get a PSVR from Flubit yesterday for £321 which I was happy with.

Personally I think that Sony has thrown so much money at this this time round that they are in it for the long term.

I've played Project Cars on an oculus rift and it was amazing but the rig needed was immense and ridiculously expensive too.

I'm not intending to initially buy the move controllers as I'm thinking more along the line of driving flying games initially but that might change down the line.

With regards to Driveclub, I believe to upgrade for those with a season pass, the price is £15.99 not bad at all if like me you picked up the full game from CEX for £10 and then got the season pass on sale too, but yes a bit of a stickler if you paid full price for the game AND full price for the DLC.

Personally I'm really looking forward to the PSVR and have a Pro ordered to handled the horsepower needed too
MichaelGL
1 Oct 16 #23
My comment about the negative sales growth was for the headsets themselves, not the games. The mod community etc aren't going to put in alot of effort when the amount of headset owners is very low. Most also aren't going to spend £650+ on a headset and a PC to run it well as well as rearrange their living room to accommodate. Alot of modders (and the pc community in general) aren't running VR ready PCs, lots are running integrated graphics. Definitely an enthusiast only option. PSVR and to an extent mobile VR will be the ones with a chance to bring it to the mainstream now. If Oculus and Vive make it to their third or fourth iteration, thats going to be when VR really hits its stride bht thats a long way off.

Ok, you do realise that stuff like Star Wars is one mission as a taster ? Most of those games you have listed I wouldn't want to play never mind play in VR, and the ones I would you have to pay for it ! Your not making a very good point here ...

Your posts further up are:

"I can guarantee for most you will have to pay for the upgrade, but I am aware there is a few that are free."

"Most of those games you have listed I wouldn't want to play never mind play in VR"

We're talking facts, not opinions. You don't have to pay for most, there aren't a few that are free.

For games to run on PSVR they have to run at 60fps, so games like DriveClub which ran at 30fps had to be re-engineered to run at 60fps. On PC you can just say you need a powerful PC which can run it at high frame rate. So the point is valid that it is easier for games to be ported to VR on PC, as it has to run at a high frame rate on a much lower spec machine compared to a PC VR setup. So obviously developers want to be paid for that work and make separate VR titles or add-ons on PS4. Some indie titles performance is no issue and it can be converted to VR much easier and they are releasing a free VR patch.

So DriveClub costs £15.99 for VR upgrade because they had to find a way to make a 1080p30 title a 1080p60 one
chrisredmayne
2 Oct 16 #35
Exactly - just stick to your "facts" with these huge lists where most of the items on it aren't even full games! Even the games that are being released in VR are more like demos... But yeah call them games to go with your "facts"
MichaelGL
2 Oct 16 #36
There's only 18 games on the list, I wouldn't call that a huge list but hey that's your "opinion". Just like your "opinion" they aren't full games. It's okay to be wrong, just take on the "facts" and move on, don't get mad.
hobsgrg
3 Oct 16 #37
With titles like Rise of Tomb Raider, Star Wars Battlefront, Final Fantasy XV you are getting a short VR experience. But there is a good reason for that. 1) VR is new for these developers so they are testing the waters 2) VR isn't something that most people can play for a significant period of time in one go so a short bitesize experience makes sense.

After a while when developers have more experience of working with VR we might see more titles developed with VR in mind like Resident Evil 7, with the full length game playable in VR rather than a VR side project.

Also developers will know they need to make the game 60fps to work in VR, so they can work with making it suitable for VR from the start. What has happened in the past isn't necessarily an indication of the future. PS VR could flop completely or we could see a lot/most big titles being playable in VR as standard in the future.
marky489
3 Oct 16 #38
I think he already had the hard drive and keyboard etc.. but the main bits were bought for that price. It wasn't very future proof though as it couldn't be upgraded in the future due to the cheap motherboard etc.. good for trying it out on a budget though.
