I have been looking for a good iPhone 7 contract and found this to be cheaper than almost everything else I could find. This is very close to buying the phone outright and then buying a simo.

Needed? I guess you're referring to the Airpods that you do not need. Earpods with lighting connector are supplied as well as an 3.5mm adaptor to lightning to use with any other head/earphones
It's a luxury not a necessity

Why do you need £170? The phone has Bluetooth and an 3.5mm adapter is supplied. You can use any headphones you want with this phone

Ordered mine Friday, was in stock, they paused my order straight away for "security verification", sent them drivers license pic straight away, didn't verify me until Saturday afternoon and now telling me to wait 2 weeks for the phone to be back in stock, and won't let me change to in stock colour for the same price because apparently as he said "this deal is way too cheap" :disappointed: annoyed.

Just cancelled an iPhone 7 upgrade as temptation got the better of me. Then realised; why do I want a phone which has the exact same user experience as, say, the 5s, but in a different shell? Literally confuses me.

You could say exactly the same about the phone itself.
Yes you can plug in a set of poundshop headphones or the naff ones that come with the phone but if you want apples wireless earpods then it's 170 quid. fact.
Incidentally, can I keep my iphone 7 charging whilst I listen to music with the adaptor??

For the wife I ordered a 128gb iPhone 7 upfront cost £105, Unlimited Minutes & Texts with 10GB Data for £40.99 per month with EE through buymobilephones, thought that was a pretty reasonable deal, not bargain of the century but £1083.76 cost over term with a possible (but not holding my breath) £72.00 cashback through Top Cashback.

V true although their network is the only redeeming feature - I find their 4G signal is a lot better than other networks and also significantly faster

Heat! Took the plunge on this, was looking at 6s' s for a few days for similar price but less data. My 5c is full and camera doesn't work anymore so needed new phone that's not 50 quid a month.

I went for the Three 0% finance deal as I use a lot of data and wanted more memory than 32GB. But still this is the best deal that I've seen so far for this phone!

Good deal, still works out slightly cheaper getting the 7 on interest free interest via iPhone Payments (Apple in-store only), £599, and then adding sim of your choice. That way not tied into a 24 month network contract. Alternatively, Three Mobile also offer interest free finance on their handsets.
