I used to have the elephone p7000 but was never really happy with it. 5.5" was far too big for my liking, heated up a lot without throttling CPU, fingerprint reader was sketchy. Then one day it just broke horrendously and I couldn't even get into fast boot. It would crash and die after 20 seconds or so when I tried to turn it on etc. Anyway I sent it back to gearbest and to my astonishment it actually got to China (I wasn't holding my breath!) So I exchanged it for one of these

Absolutely love this phone. Perfect size, well build, rapid, nice UI, lightning fast fingerprint reader, Great camera. Granted the screen and camera aren't as mind blowing as high end Samsung's etc but for the price and whole package they're amazing. Oh and battery life is fantastic on this thing! Usually go to bed with over 50% (when I've not been on Pokemon go)

The best feature on this phone however is the IR Blaster, perfect for changing the local pub TV's to babestation

For anyone considering buying this. Just want to let you know that the Redmi 4 will launch on the 25th of this month. 5" 1080p screen and SD625 I believe. Might be worth waiting for. Unsure on how quick places like aliexpress pick it up.

you don't need to unlock boot loader.
there are 3 ways to put new ROM, system update, via Mi PC suite or flashboot.

Updater app /Mi PC suite doesn't work if the phone has vendor custom ROM.

Use Fastboot method , with miflash tool and global ROM, stable or dev version whichever you like.. I used dev as it is Miui 8, stable is miui 7.5.
all info/downloads available from en.miui.com so authentic ROM. just search for your phone model.

Ok so a few weeks in now and the phone is still great - battery life impressive and dual sim working well!

Only thing, i'm getting the odd pop-up ad so I want to flash the global rom. From reading, it seems like my bootloader is locked. What do I have to do to flash the global ROM?

Yeah the Redmi Note 4 is junk, it's running an MTK chipset so buggy and poor battery. Basically MTK make junk and throw loads of buggy cores at it to try and make up for it. There's a reason no mainstream phones use them. It will never be sold outside China or have an international rom, you won't really get any custom roms either as no-one bothers as it's not worth the effort.

It's also the reason the [MTK] Redmi Note 3 barely sold outside of China but the [Qualcomm] Redmi Note 3 Pro sold loads internationally. Basically you want the Redmi 3/3S (either 2GB/16GB or 3GB/32GB version) or the Xiaomi Note 3 Pro, or just wait for the new Redmi 4 which is due out soon and should be really good.

Oh I would have said this 5" screen is smaller than a Samsung 5" screen.
BataLeon
22 Aug 16 1 #186
In all honesty it was a slight impulse buy, as mentioned above I've got a few Mi items so saw this deal did a bit of research and took the plunge.

So that all being said if I was to justify this over the Note then I'd say it comes down to two things. Screen and battery life.

If you want slightly better battery then this phone. If you want slightly bigger screen then the Note. Other than that there seems to be no real difference.

But I will say 5" screen on this phone isn't small it's the same as my old S5 and my wife's S7

http://www.gizmochina.com/2016/03/31/redmi-3-pro-vs-redmi-note-3-pro-pro-versions-compared/

Edit
Worth looking at the Remi 3s too as it's meant to be just a little better than the Pro...

BataLeon
21 Aug 16 1 #184
Just a little update after a proper days use. Zero problems with it, the global ROM is working great.
Battery wise I woke up at 9 to it being on 88% it's now on 60% as I type this. Been using it averagely throughout the day so impressed by that!

Also worth noting that I had some Mi earphones prior to getting this phone, the phone has sound settings specific to their earphones if you have some. Sound quality was excellent.

21 Aug 16 #183
who did you order from?
BataLeon
20 Aug 16 #182
It sounds like it's wanting flashing, if the symbol that's coming up shows the mobile with the USB being inserted then it's wanting instructions from a PC.

Google Redmi 3 Pro stuck on logo screen.
as an example;
http://en.miui.com/thread-276602-1-1.html

I had this pain last night, leave the phone for a bit it might sort itself out after all mine did. If you aren't so lucky then look into EDL and fastboot options

Good luck

Hi, I need some advice please - I bought a phone from ebay UK seller business seller which arrived today. The phone worked fine to start with. I restarted the phone then it stuck on MI logo it dosen't go ahead.

20 Aug 16 #177
Well, mine came yesterday. About 8 working days from ordering. No import tax etc to pay which was a bonus!

I only actually bought as i was curious about the phones and recently my S6 was developing a couple of faults.

Really pleasantly surprised. It's really not a great deal different from my S6 for build quality and general running speed. It's not AS quick, but its more than capable. Screen much better than I expected and I actually kind of like the stock ROM, the interface is pretty nice and slick.

For the price, it's absolutely insane compared to the prices we get for similar spec phones!

ironfist
20 Aug 16 #174
I'm sure it would be easy enough to unbrick it? I ended up buying off hong kong goldway.
BataLeon
20 Aug 16 #173
mine came yesterday after about two weeks. It came with MIUI 7 Stable running on it but it was a custom one with some app bloats.

The Mi website for updating the Rom is helpful but they lock the bootloader so unless you wait a week for the unlock code you'll try the other options of flashing the Rom.

To cut a long story short it's not simple and the phone is now bricked and it won't unbrick so just a warning to anyone thinking of going down this road who isn't 100% on flashing you might want to avoid.

While it worked though it was a lovely phone.

GAVINLEWISHUKD
18 Aug 16 1 #169
Well technically if connected to a DC-HSPA+ mast and close to it upto 42Mbps. But in reality it will be much slower.

Much of the time the modem/radio technology and speed on the phone is usually pretty irrelevant. The quality/implementation of the antenna on the phone and the mast closeness and traffic is probably more important.

LTE is useful if downloading large files but most people never (or infrequently) do. 3g is fine for streaming 1080p video which is the most taxing thing general users do.

Does anyone have any experience of what mobile data speeds on O2 are like on this? I know I will not be able to receive 4G due to the band 20 not being part of the firmware but I have read comments suggesting that they have "fast" 3G on this. I am not sure such a thing exists unless they really mean HSDPA connection just wanted to clarify anyones experience on O2 as I like the idea of this phone but mobile reception where I live limits network choice to O2 only for decent reception.

Thanks

17 Aug 16 #163
I checked it was not a fake. It wasn't.

My headphones were not being recognised - after a ROM update they were.

Phone was charging very slowly. I then used the charger it shipped with and it charged quick again.

Was expecting miui 8 stable Rom to be released yesterday but looks like its been delayed.

Enabled gpu rendering for 2d as it was some jittery scrolling.

Overall some small easily solvable gremlins. Phone performance and quality is amazong at the price point. MIUI global really seems like a fast uncluttered clean Rom.

Just received my Redmi Note 3 Pro. So took about 12 days from ordering using their free service which is Singapore post for Hong Kong Goldway.

They ship via DHL for an extra $11 but there is a higher chance of getting customs fees but it would have been here in 4-6 days.

Phone is on stock global rom and has no spyware as a good sign is that it was auto updating to the latest MIUI build. Retailer ROMs dont will usually not allow you to update OTA.

15 Aug 16 #160
Yeah, I think I didn't give it enough time to boot after the reflash tbh, I panicked at around 10 mins of loading screen. I flashed it a second time (as it was playing up due to all the restarts etc) using the "download" mode in the boot menu, took about 15 mins to restart once flashed and runs perfectly now

Picard123 to kaiyt

You'd be better off finding one that comes pre-installed with the "International Global ROM" in your case. It has all the Chinese adware and local apps removed and all the usual Google apps installed by default. Might cost £10 more but it's probably a better buy in your case.

3gb/32gb version below. The seller (HK Goldway) is also reliable from my experience:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Original-Xiaomi-Redmi-3-Pro-Prime-Snapdragon-616-Octa-Core-Mobile-Phone-3GB-RAM-32GB-ROM/32641550000.html

2gb/16gb version (though I'd recommend the 3gb/32gb)

Xiaomi redmi note 3 pro is only £30 more and has better specs and performance, it scores 79000 antutu where as this only gets around 50000. The note 3 pro also has 4000MaH battery which lasts 11 hours screen on time and nearly 2 full days of normal use
Picard123
15 Aug 16 #157
It definitely looks to be an improvement, but never in a million years will the Redmi 4 come in at $105 / £81 at launch. That article is waaaaay off in that regard. If anything Xiaomi are pushing their brand upwards and targeting the middle tier of the market. Look at the Redmi Pro that's just been released. That's $299 at release. I'd be very surprised if you could get the Redmi 4 for less than £150.

i got +22.00GBP added to mine when i got it from Gearbest making it 140.00GBP
But its a solid Pokemon Go Phone because of the 4200mAh battery & 5" 720p Screen ( the screen is nearly Samsung quality in saturated colours and looks soo sharp that i think its actually a 1080p panel inside) - hard to root though with issues with storage size
Typing on the phone as we speak
just a Solid Plain phone with Tonnes of battery and still thin.

Seems I may have been wrong, giffgaff do also get access to 4G on 1800MHz but coverage on o2/giffgaff is minimal.

I wouldn't buy a phone that doesn't do 800MHz if you want 4G on o2's network.

The one time that I ordered a phone from there it took them over a month to send it. In fact they only conveniently sent it when I got tired of waiting and wanted a refund. The same phone also failed after a month but I guess that could have happened with any vendor (Elephone P8000).

bigpappa
11 Aug 16 #99
From what I have read it all depends on the ROM installed. If its a retailer rom then they cant be updated via the app. You need to use Fastboot method and put the phone into EDL mode. How do you know you have a retailer ROM - somewhere I read (might be wrong) that they usually have an extra 0 at the end of the firmware version.

Boot unlocking is only required if you want to put a non Xiaomi Rom such as CM.

I ordered mine on the 4th late and they shipped on the 6th. Its left China and is on the plane to the UK. So lets see how long it takes for the phone to arrive.

Most sellers on AliExpress will wait usually 24 hours after the order is placed to start order fulfillment as people can cancel orders within that 24 hour period.

I had them install a global EU rom on mine. They were selling two versions - one for $174.99 with Global EU and for $169.99 without. HK Goldway said just go for the cheaper version as puttin on the ROM is easy. So that's what I did then I got a messag saying they installed the global Rom anyway.

10 Aug 16 #42
Brought 3 of these phones they're excellent. Originally got one for my son from AliExpress for around £115 and by time I paid shipping (express) it came to £120ish. Had to mess about with flashing firmware because it came with malware on it.
The last two I brought from Ebay. They were £135, only had to wait 3-4 days for delivery and didn't have to mess about with flashing as someone else had done it. Honestly wasn't worth the hassle ordering from China, plus I know I can get easy 12 month guarantee claims support if needed.

Edit: Just to note as another commenter said, the 7.3.2 version that came with this does suffer really badly from "Authorization required" notices from the Play Store. I had to update both to MIUI 8 but it was pretty straight forward.

1. Download the official product (for the drivers), 2. Download the flashing tool. 3 Download the right MIUI version for the phone, one I used was called "ido_xhdpi_global_images_6.7.29_20160712.0000.26_5.1_global"

But yeah been using this phone for Pokemon Go lasts a full day with about 6-7 hours of solid use (map up and walking about).

The original rom doesn't come with any google apps or even the Google Play Store. You're probably on a vendor rom, most of which are buggy, don't get updates and some include spyware. I'd get off it asap.

most of these phones come with a fake ROM. The ROM is 7.3.2.0.0 it includes Google play but this stops working after a reboot. The best way to alleviate this is to install the miui 8 dev rom. It's not an easy process though however it can be done without unlocking the bootloader. once done though the miui dev rom gets OTA updates and Google play works perfectly. just something to bare in mind.

Yep pretty much this.

You either ask the seller to install the global rom or you do it. If you do it you'll need to unlock the bootloader (form to xiaomi) then flash the rom.

Either way it'll then have a few miui apps but not really any bloat and Google play stuff installed.

One caution is think about whether you want someone to install the rom for you. It's much easier this way but you do then leave yourself open to the possibility they have done something sinister / installed something they shouldn't.

Doubtful if you but from a recognised seller but I went for sealed box for this reason.
