Looks more like a copy of a Galaxy Alpha. Thing is there's only so many reasonable ways to make smartphones while still being useful, Apple aren't innovating anyway, the iPhone 7 will show that and I really hope it's their downfall so we get something exciting and fresh soon.
Gearbest is not like Amazon as there's no third-party sellers, it's closest to Amazon first-party only.

Good deal, have had the redmi 3 and its been a great phone. This is almost the same price but comes with Marshmallow based ROM. Personally having spent years installing custom ROMS on phones I find MIUI an excellent ROM which has so many useful features already built in.
Now my issue is my distinct dislike for white phones, I know the back cover can be easily changed. Somewhere I saw a screen protector with black borders, which would cover the front white faceplate nicely - but can't seem to find it again - if anyone has a link ?

Indeed, my MI3 the previous generation has NFC (Supports Android Pay).
Also cannot fault the software updates my phone was 4.3 when released, Xiaomi updated to marshmallow (I was on the beta).
Unlike the Samsung I had previously which got no upgrades.
Other phone makers could learn a lot from Xiaomi regarding support.

Not sure how they work it out TBH. They add the customs charge and an 'administration fee'. As a for instance, a friend from work ordered a £140 tablet from Tinydeal in China, and the charge was £16 total. If you use standard shipping, they usually mark the package as a gift, or as something below $20 value. Obviously, you take a chance, but if you did get unlucky and pick up a 20% charge, you're still getting a cracking phone.

I wouldn't go by that - they will be shipping out mostly genuine & possibly some fake ones, in the hope that most of the latter will get missed.

OK. So phone received. Yes box was opened, no there was no scratch card. IMEI check recognised number but couldn't verify. However CPU z suggest s the component's are true and the phone is much better than my 2nd gen moto g. All sensors appear to work. GPS great. Pokemon Go in AR also smooth. Think the phone appears real enough. I gave flashed it to global version on marshmallow.

OK, I've now had a chance to verify that my Mi4 64Gb from GearBest is indeed a genuine handset, phew!
Although I did have some reservations, which made me quite suspicious.
The box seal was broken. Although everything in the box looked untouched and in mint condition, screen protector in place.
The serial no. on the imei sticker (on the box and also the phone cover) doesn't seem to match the serial number found in the system settings of the phone. The imei no. matches across the 2 stickers and the system settings.
There was no Xiaomi scratch off validity sticker.
I tried this link to verify my phone and didn't get very far: http://www.mi.com/verify/#imei_en
Method 1 worked for me, using the Mi Verification app and the website it came back with a green all clear and I was the first person to have 'checked' my handset
On a side note the handset got here very quickly from GearBest, really very quickly! I placed the order at 11pm Monday, and today, Friday, it arrived. I chose the next shipping method up from standard, which seemed to only cost a few pence more (??) and I was not charged any import duties, the downloadable invoice from my GearBest account section listed the value as 19USD!!
The handset is running Android 4.4.4 and MUI 7 stable, so I need to look into updating the phone.

Thanks for the feedback. Mine also arrived today, running the same version. Someone here said they flashed to MIUI 8 Global on marshmallow, someone else said they got their update via OTA.
So I'm not sure whether to wait, or whether to flash the developer ROM on the MIUI website (link below), assuming this is the correct one ?

I had this same issue, what you need to do is go to the download section from mui (Google mi4 update) and do the updates incrementally. The phone seems to arrive with an os version too old to jump straight to the latest build, but once you have done the first (earliest) update then the inbuilt updater app should kick in and get you up to the latest build. Once there you can download the full developer build (latest) and point the updater app to it and it updates to developer build mui8

Crossbow to jrh_1979
10 Sep 16#69
I know what you mean...
It's more of a trapezoid-shape really, & the only way to ensure non-damage for everyone is to carefully plug in the connector the correct orientation every time, plus straight in & out every time (rather than at an angle). Holding the connector (rather than the cable) whilst pushing in & pulling out is also highly recommended.
Soon, most phones/devices will hopefully come with a reversible type-C connector & this will be much less of an issue.
