The frequency of wharfdale speakers is a bit odd. They have good bass and treble but lack the midrange. Compare them to a high end speaker and you'll notice that there's something missing.

How do these compare to Sony srs x55
cicobuff to oom
28 Aug 16#54
It's impossible to compare a bluetooth speaker with an integrated amplifier to a pair of bookshelf speakers.
Let's just say if you add a decent enough amplifier and a google chromecast audio device the sound quality would trounce the SRS-X55, however it would not be portable.
And that is about as polite as I can be with such a nonsensical question.

I have a lepy clone on my desk at work which was, I think, about 12 quid off fleabay. I like the sound but it is rather underpowered. I would live to hear what the Behringer A500 sounds like but that's an order of magnitude dearer.

These are passive speakers (unpowered) You need an amp with them, for them to work from a source like a TV.
Kulaak to CoolCab
27 Aug 16#47
First question..... What TV do you have? These speakers need an amplifier. So you'll need a line/aux out from your tv into an amp. Doubt you'll be able to directly connect them to your set.
I currently use some speakers via my hi-fi set-up from my PVR.

As are Wharfedale, Mission, Audiolab, Quad, Tag Mclaren and Castle Acoustics after being purchased by the International Audio Group with manufacture done in Shenzhen, China. [Link to the owners] Bernard & Daniel Chang.
Whether quality has suffered in the transition I am unsure, but most certainly I am happier having Mission Speakers when they were both designed and manufactured in England.

27 Aug 16#40
Well after my own previous experiences with RS I only use them on price never on service, although complaints before now have always been addressed and then I have had good prices....however in this instance you really cannot blame them for the upsell.....when you phoned you should have reserved them (they do allow reservations, usually even without a deposit), at this price and finite stocks it would have been the sensible thing to do.
However, if you did reserve them and they did not have them when you made the special journey you would have cause for complaint, granted.

you want a tripath amp.
you can pick up a lepy 2024+ for £20ish probably less or a topping tp30 for about 50.

Denon RCD-M40DAB
Don't go in for all the audiophile BS. I have a Grundig stereo amp and power amp made in 1980 and it's as good as the Denon I just bought. The Denon sounds very good though. I'm using Heybrook Helios speakers with it, which were made in around 1998. The reason I got the Denon is so that I could use optical connections. The Chromecast audio sends out optical and is managed with the Google Cast app from the Play Store.
If there's not enough bass output for you then you can connect a subwoofer to the subwoofer output on the back of the amp. I have the Chromecast Audio connected to optical 1 and my TV connected to optical 2.

I've never found a decent keyboard on a phone/tablet, they're all autocorrect mad. Tired Google Keyboard, Swype, Swiftkey (horrible), and some other weird ones. Google Keyboard is what I use, just because I'm used to how it messes stuff up so I can correct it on the fly.

Would I be able to adjust the base on these accordingly?
fishmaster to jaybizzle
27 Aug 16#20
The speakers are independent of your amp, so whatever your amp can do these speakers will work with it. What I mean is that it's up to the design/configuration of your amp how it manages the bass sub independently of the stereo pair of speakers. The speakers are for replication of sound, they will produce bass, it's up to your amp to supply the bass to the speakers. The speakers in no way control the sound, your amp does, so look to your amp for how it manages bass output.
Lastly it's bass not base, base can't be used instead of the bass as it means something entirely different.
