Seems like a fantastic deal for a new Tiguan, decent spec, which is £28k OTR.

Only 5k miles but even with allowing for excess miles, it's a great deal for an average of £222 per month over the period.

Let's be honest, the majority of people who do get a 4WD don't need it. Those that do need a 4WD will get something designed to do it!
This will drop the kids off at school and tow a caravan on the odd weekend so is ample for 90% of the 4WD owners in the UK!

My 2 year Tiguan deal is comng to an end (personal lease). Paid same deposit and £89.99 per month for 5k miles per annum Model looks virtually the same, but obv mine was for the old shape.

The excess mileage fee is defintely correct at 7.2 with VWFS. In fact, mine will have done more like 30k over the two years. When VWFS got in touch a with 8 months left to pay to check the milage, they offered me the opportunity to increase the last 8 payments to cover 30k mileage at effectively half the cost of the what the excess would have been- so splitting the cost of the extra 20k miles over eight months. Means for my excess i will have paid around 3.5 p including VAT

Been offered this deal already as a replacement - so definately not a 'feeder ad' - especially with the high up front deposit.
PulisOut to Lefty
25 Aug 16 #37
I think all that is made up sorry to say. If the deal is available for 2 years at 119 pm then why if you increase it to 3 year is it £200 pm more? it does not make sense.
As I said first year depreciation on VW is high so lets say 30% year one, 15% year two. Year 3 is not going to be more then 15% so why does the extra year cost almost twice as much as the first two? On these figures you are getting a car worth £20k paying £5k to use it for two years and then handing back a car worth maybe £12 were is the profit in that. The lease company loses on the deal how do they stay in business? over 3 years you pay £15k that sounds right because the car still be worth more then £20 less £15k lease, they can sell it for around £8k and make £3k profit.

25 Aug 16 5 #50
No don't be silly. All the people living in towns and cities absolutely need a 4WD car for that one week in 3 years they venture down here to rural Devon. Our lanes are often difficult to navigate, so ideally the car will be as big as possible, and then when the find a car coming in the opposite direction it's important to test the braking system but stopping quickly. They must ensure they are stopped with at least 2' gap to the hedgerow - it would be terrible if they scratched their shiny paintwork. This will allow us locals in our 2wd cars to show them how to squeeze through the gap which is usually small when two cars try to pass on a country lane but is smaller when the other car is excessively big for no real reason and they haven't moved anywhere near as far to the left. We are used to putting our cars in the hedge, especially in the summer months when this happens so often, and we never cared about the paintwork because we know it's going to get scratched. We then see the other drivers shock and awe as our pathetic 2wd cars manage to drive through the mud and puddles traversing the potholes and just about squeezing by the ridiculous gap we have been left.

Anyone who thinks you don't need a 4x4 in this country is insane, you couldn't come to Devon in a normal car, you'd get stuck when exiting the M5!

My poor attempt at humour aside I live on a farm and the yard is only not a mud path for the few summer weeks of the year when it's hot and dry. My daughter goes to school 8 miles away down small country lanes and the nearest shops are 6 miles away, my wife's car has 4wd but the one I use the most and on school runs etc is a citroen c4 grand Picasso. I've never once got stuck, but then I do know how to drive!
Lefty
25 Aug 16 #52
It isn't increased to three years. The final eight months of the 2 year deal went up from 107.98 inc vat (i missed vat off originall apols) to 190.40 inc to account for the excess mileage increase - from 10k over 2 years to 30k.

I can see you have misunderstood, but this is not uncommon practice to agree terms for the final months of the lease that reduce excess mileage costs - as a rough guide with VWFS to usually half that of the excess mileage charge. You need to do a bit more research into leasing before dipping your toes in the water. Your either new to this or need to do a bit more research.

Had my 15 plate Tig on Lease since March 2015. In the Match trim level, 2wd, 2.0 140bhp tdi, manual. £150 per month, and added a few optional extras. Fantastic car, drives lovely, loads of room (I'm 6'1") even on big family trip. Never once felt the need for 4wd, and I have taken it off road on some quite steep climbs.

Had such a fantastic experience both with my Tig thus far and leasing, that I'm going to do it again next year (most likely on the new shape Tiguan).

Its a no brainer to lease if you want to drive a new car every few years, with no hassle in regards to breakdowns, warranty issues or depreciation costs.

Similar situation here in Wales.
I have an older style Tiguan 4Motion.. (There is a big discussion if this is a real 4WD)

With reference to narrow lanes. my left wing mirror is nearly always scraping along the hedge at the side of the road. But often I would find a tourist driving the other way in the middle of the road thinking this was not a 2 lane road.

As for do I consider as a "4WD" Tiguan user if this is a good car.. well YES I have successfully NOT crashed or fallen off a mountain even on very icy days. Earlier in the year I drove on my usual route home and encountered 3 cars and 1 Military 4WD (or 6WD) vehicle off the road in various states of damage and I was able to carefully, and slowly drive past them and home without an incident.

Having said that I also recall when I had my Seat Estate before the Tiguan I was one of the only ones to navigate this mountain road and get to work, also seeing other cars on the side of the road.. so maybe it is the driver and not the car that makes a safe journey?

Back to this deal.. Its a VERY good deal IMHO.. and like many people say here the "4WD" version known as 4Motion is not really needed.

For the difference in money between this and the 4WD version save it and then buy an old Landy for the 2 weeks a year that the average 4WD SUV driver actually needs 4WD.

Accepted as world class? Where exactly, never heard that said. My jaguar XF auto and BMW are both miles better and smoother. The DSG used to randomly do violent gear changes. Also as there is no creep like a true auto low speed maneuvers and parking are more tricky. After all the DSG isn't an automatic it's two mechatronic gearboxes each with a clutch and actuators, overly complicated and making them unreliable and expensive to repair.

This is not the case whatsoever.

There have been a lot of deals on VAG group cars on the lease market over the past year. These include the Passat Alltrack (posted on HUKD) which I have (£34k car for £3800 total over 24 months).

A couple of weeks back I saw a Audi A4 1.4 TFSI (around £28k I t believe) for £5800 ish.

Golf Rs are available for around £6800 over 2 years (£32k RRP)

Most of these deals are for 5k miles. Standard VW finance excess mileage charge is just 7.2ppm. Normally cheaper to pay excess mileage than spec it at start.

These prices are much lower than they should really be but this probably reflect the issues that VW (and VAG in general) are going through. If they have planned to build x number of Golfs over the next year then it's probably cheaper to build them and offload through the lease market than let the factor shut down. Selling them cheap through the dealer network would impact the brand image so I guess that's why forecourt prices are not lower.

If anyone is thinking of asking a dealership to match a lease deal then remember to speak to the fleet department. The car salesman in a local dealership will not have access to PCH deals. He will want to sell you a PCP.

Make the most of these VAG lease deals as I don't think they will be around forever!

I'll second that. Neil Wells sorted out my Alltrack too. He was very professional.

I also love the DSG box. I really don't understand all the complaints. I would say that there are many versions of the DSG box around (dry clutch, wet clutch, 6 or 7 speed) depending on the torque of the engine. I have only used the wet clutch 6 speed in the Alltrack.

These DSG boxes have been around a while now. A lot of the issues of a few years back have been ironed out.

Probably a stupid question but servicing.

On these deals for example manufacturer states 12 months / 10,000 miles. If you don't hit the mileage then you get it serviced after 12 months, would you also be expected to do it at 24 months just before it goes back?

27 Aug 16 1 #103
Well I leased my first car a couple of months back. I think the main issue people have is that after 2 years of payments they do not have anything to show for it as the car is handed back. Forget about this and simply calculate the depreciation cost over 2 years if you were to buy new. Factor in 2 years of road tax and AA cover that's included in most lease deals.

If the PCH is cheaper (which it will be for this Tiguan) then leasing is the way to go.

If you are leasing through VW Financial Services then there is an option for someone other than yourself (your partner etc) to purchase the car at the end of the 2 years. This is not typical of PCH agreements though so you should check before signing if this is important to you. Most people hand the car back and take out a new PCH.

One other point I would add is that it's important to look at the total 2 year cost. There are lots of variations of the same deal. Some with a large upfront payment and low monthlies and others the reverse. The best way to compare one with the the other is by comparing the total price.

Also a lot of these deals are advertised by brokers. The same deal can sometimes be had by going direct to the manufacturer. This would save the broker admin fee of a few hundred pounds. As mentioned previously it's important to make contact with the fleet division if you do that. The car salesman will not be interested in selling you a PCH deal.

Good luck!

sonypc100
27 Aug 16 #109
Ive got this quote from a VW main dealer who is aware of this deal and tried to price match...

Initial payment of £3180 incl £180 fee however there is a dealer contribution of £600 to come off the £3180 making it £2580

(I presume the £180 is the admin fee but the post above says you shouldn't pay that from a main dealer?)

Then £128.92 per month for 23 months on 5k per year.

Or £179.53 on 10k - so it's cheaper to take 5k and pay 6p plus vat per additional mile.

By the way, how does servicing work for these? I've got a GTD on a 2 year lease last September, and recently it's showing inspection due in X days. The date it's claiming the inspection is due is about 1 year and 1 week before I have to hand it back (presumably its counting from the date the dealer received the car). I'm concerned that if I have to service it on this exact date then I'll have to do the same next year, just 1 week before I send it back... I'm sure I've read previously that you only have to do one service though so could you shed some light on this? Thank you.
ferple
29 Aug 16 #126
A lease car is just like a 'normal' car for servicing, it's due when it's due. It's often based on mileage, say 10,000 miles, or due every year. I would say that if you hand the car back with the servicing warning visible you'll probably get charged for a service.

However if you get it serviced this time a couple of weeks after it's due they should reset the servicing warning during the service. So if it needs servicing every year, it will next be due just after you hand it back! Not guaranteed, but worth a go.

I was in a VW dealership and was quoted more but I did not know this deal
1 thing I don't get is its says 3 month initial rental but it says initial rental is £2k+ vat

Also how do people think about contract hire and having children. Will it end in disaster?
rolstherat
4 Sep 16 #144
Also I have heard if you take a car out on 5k milage they expect the car back in a better condition than if you take it out for 10k milage a year. So taking it at 5k as its cheap but intend on doing more could work out in your disadvantage when it comes to return condition?

that's double the price
rolstherat

Yes it is a lot more money, but you are getting the top spec R-Line DSG model. Just saying £245 plus metallic (white as standard) is still a good price for the spec.

Gone through gateway2lease in the end and have started placing the order. Gone for Urano grey. White was £133 pm and Idium Grey Metallic was £143.99, unfortunately Urano grey there is a 12 week waiting list as it'll be direct from the factory. I didn't think it was worth paying another £23.99 per month for a metallic colour.

In reality what is the score when you return a lease car with regards to fair wear and tear, I have read the BVRLA standard fair, wear and tear guidelines but its always nice to hear from those who have previously leased and what the reality is, anyone been hit with high additional charges etc??, is it better to lease from the dealer or a third party,

Paying for metallic speeds up the order? I guess its because its already made and on the way to UK?
sonypc100

Yes. The flat grey has a 12 week lead time. Whereas there are plenty of metallic colours already in the UK and in dealerships. I could have ordered and collected white within 5 days.

The oynx white I believe is a £995(around) paint though. Solid white is free on R Line but lead time is Nov..

Deal with G2L has gone.

You can get the deal from any dealership wishing to price match at £99pm, or you can order it from Lookers in Middlesbrough [whom are price matching on this deal] & get it delivered or collected

Failing that ,Freedom are £10 more + VAT; http://www.freedomcontracts.com/Volkswagen-Tiguan-2.0-TDI-SE-Nav-2WD-150-Business-Lease/2533

Has anybody tried getting this deal recently?? ie. since G2L stopped it? The best deal I can find on a new Tiguan SE NAV at the moment is around £6300 overall over 2yrs with 8k miles (£2000 dep £190pm) so if anybody has secured this deal recently I will try my luck at a local dealership!

I have phoned my local dealership and they said the deal I have seen online is available which is £2009.90 upfront and £189.99 per month for the SE NAV over 2yrs - 8k miles.... she said that she has some Urano Grey and a white coming in about 2 weeks (white being an extra £250 over the term).... I may have to go for a test drive as this still sounds like a good deal to me??

So, finally. Car hopefully being delivered on the 30th of November. Sorted out car insurance, done it through Aviva. I asked them about GAP insurance and they said the following;

"We will replace the vehicle with a new one of the same make and specification (providing one is available in the UK) if, within 12 months of the vehicle being purchased from new: •the cost of repairing any damage covered by the policy is more than 60% of the vehicle's UK list price (including vehicle tax and VAT) when they bought their vehicle; or •the vehicle is stolen and not recovered".

Basically, I am not 100% sure if we should purchase GAP insurance as a separate policy, or wether aviva will provide what we need? Many thanks
ronzza
25 Nov 16 1 #212
I think some insurance policies have that as standard. (the replacement of a new one if written off within 12 months). and I'm thinking the same too whether I need to get GAP if that's provided already? my delivery is 6 weeks away!
cava83
13 Dec 16 #213
Just received a letter from VW finance, saying first payment is £3371.37. Gateway to lease did inform me a while ago stating that if there is a difference, the dealer covers it. I presumed this meant that the DD would be adjusted, that's not the case. The full payment will be taken out, then the dealer refunds the difference into my account. Seems like a lot of hard work

Apart from that, the car is great, wifey loves it. !

I did not, my insurance was through Aviva and they cover new vehicles apparently, I have it in writing just in case.
cava83
13 Dec 16 #217
You paying a different monthly amount, as the deposit is different?

I went for Urano grey and it's better than I thought, was worried about it not being metallic but an extra £38 a month to me was not worth it, as then I would have wanted an automatic too, might as well have gone for the R Line

Had the car 2 weeks, driven it once properly. Definitely not my car, but the wife's, I'm toddling along in a beaten A3 2007 model :S
