Thanks OP, ordered. Almost worth it just for the USB extension lead it comes with. It'll be interesting to see what chipset the dongle contains and whether there are Windows or Linux drivers available for it.

didn't look at the item, didn't check the specs and other details. just pressed the button and ordered one.. it's no brainer, less than a pound.. will make it useful in any shape or form.. not sure if that is a price glitch? it says save 49 quid..

Thanks OP, tried a couple of stores till i got the one and only left. That said at the other store (Wandsworth Bridge) i picked up a Slingbox M1for under £22, currently £129 at John Lewis so worth the chase. Horrible reviews for the M1 though due to an ad banner being added to the App!.

Mine works in a W8.1 box (HP260 G1). It appears as a Ralink 802.11n device, driver is netr28ux.sys. Unfortunately, the device can see the various networks of my neighbours, but not my own... I think this may be because I don't have an 11n network. Will investigate further, with Windows 7 and Linux. What a steal!
My friend got 1 reserved when I told him about it in the morning, just went at 6pm to collect and staff first refused him saying none left and when he created a fuss, one turned up mysteriously for him. !!!!!!! :smirk:

picked mine up from Leeds Crown Point this evening, there was another reserved pair waiting to be collected behind the counter.
Well chuffed, and the possibility of getting the adaptors working on Windows will be a bonus.

Utter waste of time. Ordered for click and collect. Got e-mail saying ready to collect from the Staples Corner store in NW London.
Went to collect and the staff there said they'd never had them in stock. So I asked why does the system say it is in stock and e-mails customer to say it is ready to be collected? Absolute bunch of fracktards. Refurbished store - same old crap PC world service.

Thanks. Does it support N300 or what is its max throughput?

20 Aug 161#41
It was showing 300 when connected - My Access point is 300 so that would be its limit.
These are dual band devices too so will do both 2.4Gz and 5GHz.
Not sure about ongoing stability or reliability as I only tried briefly.
Has to be worth 97p though.
Worth having a look for stock again as I found some locally that wasn't showing up a few days ago and have reserved for a friend.

Thanks, dual band and N-300 is fine.
I picked one up yesterday and wanted to check the specs before trying it as the Wifi is broken on my old laptop.
It currently has Win10 Pro so I should be good to go.

A belated thankyou to the op. I reserved one of these on Monday and then thought ...nah. After seeing what CrazyBob said about using as a laptop dongle I popped in to see if they still had it. They did, and I whacked it into an HP G6 win7 64 bit system. Windows found the driver straight away and it's running at approx 140Mbs, compared with the 40 - 45 I was getting with the built in card. Happy days, and thanks again to both of you.

In case anyone is still looking at this thread, I noticed this has been in and out of availability for delivery today. I have managed to order three for delivery, so if they do turn up and somebody here wants one, I'll happily pass it on at cost. Not overly optimistic as no stock for pickup within 50 miles of me, so I'm expecting cancellation. Great adapter though, got it working faultlessly on XP, 7, 8.1 and 10.

I believe the chipset is RT2870.
I plugged the dongle into Windows 7, and downloaded the drivers from http://www.mediatek.com/en/downloads1/downloads/usb/ , and could see my own networks as well.
Well chuffed, and the possibility of getting the adaptors working on Windows will be a bonus.
